OUR GROUP: The San Diego Sierra Club family meetup group is for parents and other care givers and the kids they bring along. You do not need to be a member of the Sierra Club to join our meetup but you need to bring young (under 18 years old) kids to the events. This is not a group with people without children.

JOINING: If you join this group, Please make sure your meetup profile has a photo, preferably of you and your kids, so we know who you are. In order to have a group with active members, we expect you to attend events at least once every six months. If not, especially if you have not visited this meetup's webpage for 6 months, we may remove you from the group. If you RVSP "yes", but can't come, please change your RVSP on meetup.com and (if within 1 day of the event) contact the organizer via email, text or cell. Please don't be a no-show.

EVENTS: We go on regular outdoor adventures around San Diego County. Visits have included: Mission Trails Regional Park, San Elijo Lagoon, Guajome Park, Chula Vista Nature Center, Miramar Lake, Los Penasquitos Canyon, Kumeyaay Interpretive Center in Poway. My kids are 4 and 6, so I plan leisurely activities lasting about 1 1/2 hours, and we tend to wander where our kids' curiousity takes us.

SIERRA CLUB: The San Diego Sierra Club chapter has funded this meetup.com group, so there are no fees for members. Not required, but we would appreciate it if regular participants in this meetup consider joining the Sierra Club: http://sandiegosierraclub.org; There are often deals where you can join the Sierra Club for as little as $15. San Diego Children & Nature Collaborative: The founder of this group, Jennifer C. Douglas, is on the board of the San Diego Children and Nature Collaborative (SDCaN): http://www.sdchildrenandnature.org and invites you to get involved. We have regular public meetings and events. SDCaN is part of the Children and Nature Network inspired by the work of San Diegan Richard Louv and his book "Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder".

LEADERSHIP: Our organizers have committed to hosting events and attend organizer meetings. If you want to be an organizer, please contact Jennifer Douglas, jennifercdouglas@yahoo.com. We are looking for organizers to lead activities that are longer and/or more suitable for kids over age 10. My children are in elementary school, so I lead hikes for that age range. It would be especially helpful if Sierra Club Chapter Outing Leaders would volunteer to lead hikes
