Thoughtful Conversations Monterey

Monterey, CA

Thoughtful Conversations Monterey
Welcome to all those who enjoy discussing significant, interesting (and sometimes challenging) topics! We will be meeting in-person (not virtually) in a comfortable outdoor space on the Monterey Peninsula. \*\*Before proceeding want to note that all participants will be required to show proof of full vaccination (2 shots) + booster (3rd shot).\*\* Each Meetup event will have a topic of focus and some background preparation material to go through beforehand (e.g., a podcast to listen to, youtube videos to watch or article to read). It won't be long (an hour or less), but is \*required\* so that we can have a common starting point for our conversation. Here are examples of the kinds of topics we'll pursue: Growth of political polarization Technology and futurism Dating and relationships Climate change and nuclear power Healthcare: how do we fix it? Organized religion in politics Wealth concentration and its consequences Human connection and loneliness The Rules: \- Follow through on your RSVP\. If for some reason you are ultimately unable to attend\, post a comment so that we know\. No Shows and those who cancel out more than on rare occasion will be removed from the group\. \- Arrive at or before the start time\. \- The idea here is to have a group conversation\. That means talking\, listening\, hearing and thinking\. Please do not come with the idea of just listening\. This is a participatory activity\. \- Respect opinions of others even if very different from your own\. Rude or hostile behaviour will not be tolerated\.

Contra dancing in Monterey!

Monterey, CA

Contra dancing in Monterey!
So you think you can't dance? Think again!  Contra dancing is a wonderful activity for anyone who enjoys live music, dance, socializing, fun, etc. We hold dances twice each month at the YMCA of the Monterey Peninsula. All skill levels and ages are welcome. No prior dance experience is necessary, and every dance is preceded by a lesson. The dances are very social by nature and all are welcome here — married and unmarried couples; singles, alone or with friends; people of all ages! Children are also welcome at dances if supervised by a responsible adult.  We occasionally have special themed dances, potlucks, and dance workshops. Our motto is: "If you're having fun, you're doing it right!"  Dances are sponsored by the Monterey Country Dance Community – an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization dedicated to keeping traditional live music and dance thriving on the Monterey Peninsula. **Please note our updated COVID policies, which are in force for every in-person event put on by the Monterey Country Dance Community:** * Open to vaccinated dancers only. Boosters are not required. * Proof of vaccination will be checked at the door (photos of vaccination card ok), and will be noted for easy admission to future dances. * Well-fitting masks must be worn throughout the dance whenever indoors, except briefly while taking a drink.  Acceptable masks: N95, KN95, KF94, or P1000 with exhaust filter. Masks will be available at the door for those who need them. * Water will be offered outdoors during the break. Sorry, no potluck snacks yet. Over the Top Cycling

Monterey, CA

Over the Top Cycling
This Meetup group's mission is focused on developing and maintaining higher levels of cycling fitness. All disciplines are welcome and the expectation is that our members have a passion for cycling that drives them to continuously improve in fitness, skill and knowledge. Casual spins along flat recreation trails that only last about an hour are no longer enough. Spending more time on the bike, going faster, climbing more and becoming a better rider are traits that a typical member should and would have. While based out of the Monterey Bay region, our cycling activities extend beyond the immediate area and are only limted by the imgination and motivation of our members.   I've been riding for over three decades and find that the trails and roads are more fun when shared with others.   I also pledge that, as long as I am the organizer, there will never, ever, be any monetary dues, voluntary or otherwise, to be a member of this group.  There will also be no charges payable to the group to join us for any of the rides on the calendar.  Of course, there may be fees and charges related to an organized event or optional pre/during/post ride activity.  Some examples are, but not limited to: event registration, park entry/use, hotels, parking, food, gas, etc.  These fees shall all be the responsibility of the individual participant and remain payable directly to the organizing group, park, store, restaurant or other charging entity by which the service or product is provided.       Release of Liability: By joining this group or attending any of its functions, you hereby RELEASE and DISCHARGE it's owners, principals, affiliates, presenters, organizer, hosts and participants from any and all liability, claims, demands or causes of action that you now have, or may have in the future, for injuries, damages, death and/or economic loss of any kind or nature, arising in whole or in part out of the activities, advice or information contained herein. You further agree that if you or someone under your supervision uses the information on this website you assume all risks of injury, damage, and economic loss, without limitation, and release providers from all liability therefore.
