Chronically Active

Chronically Active

Welcome!!

This group is for those who want to remain active with others that understand the challenges of dealing with a chronic condition.
My name is Lupe, I've been living with Sjogren's for 10+ years, most recently I was also diagnosed with Hashimotos. Sjogren's is an autoimmune, that among other things, attacks your moisture producing cells, causing painful inflammation, heat intolerance, dry mouth, dry eyes - dry EVERYTHING!

My main complaint is extreme fatigue and joint pain, mornings are the worse. Waking up feeling like you have the flu, everyday, is NOT fun! But my symptoms get better as the day goes on. Exercising, stretching and walking helps so much!

My husband, Brian and I took a photography class at Orange Coast College attended a school function, at the Huntington Library in Pasadena and it was HOT!

We were at the Japanese Garden and all of a sudden, I got so overheated, I felt like I couldn't breath. I panicked, started crying and like a wounded animal segregated myself, seeking shade and water. I didn't want my classmates to see what I was going through. But most importantly, I was embarrassed of being judged and I didn't want them to be upset at me for slowing them down.

Long story short, my husband Brian noticed I was missing and set out to find me, helped cool me down and got me through the day! No one was the wiser.

However, we know the importance of exercising and being active. But we also understand the challenges one faces when living with a chronic condition.

So, we started this meetup to build community, encourage others to be active and engage with others living with a chronic condition in a supportive manner.

No need to feel embarrassed or fear being judged by others in this group!
Our goal is to;

• Create Community; Hiking, Cycling, Walking, Beach, Photography, Museums, a little bit of everything, etc

• Promote and engage in an active lifestyle despite your diagnosis

• Group physical activities with others diagnosed with a chronic condition

• To get out and move the body and get the blood pumping

BEE-Long Outdoor Adventures and Other Shenanigans (LGBTQIA+)
## What we’re about: BEE-Long recognizes that adventure and family looks and feels different for everyone - We have made it our personal responsibility to facilitate, create, and collaborate with safe spaces for the LGBTQ2+ community within Orange County, CA. We will do this by providing various social and recreational activities throughout the county. We welcome and encourage individuals of all ages (unless specified otherwise), abilities, and identities to attend our meet up events. We will host activities such as outdoor adventures including hiking, group camping, rock climbing, water activities etc. We have hosted social gatherings such as picnics at the park, potlucks, game night, beach walks, plant exchanges, cookouts and more. Sometimes we will share posts for events being put on by other people/organizations to attend together. Have ideas? Let us know! One major priority of ours is everyone's emotional and physical safety. When we host events we encourage the Truddy system (groups of 3). If you see or hear something, say something to a safe person. If anyone is being unkind and/or disrespectful, please let us know as soon as possible to support in addressing the situation. **About the Group Founders:** River (they/them) and Mardee (she/her) are the organizers and founders of this group. River was born and raised in Wisconsin and moved to CA in 2016. Mardee grew up in Arizona and moved to CA in 2007. We met in 2020 and immediately bonded over our connection to the outdoors, traveling, and social activities. Our combined passions and interest in building community are what kick started the idea for this group. (We knew we couldn't be the only queers down here in South OC!) We are a small family of four, with two kids (9 & 11) and our two dogs, a cat, 3 fish, and several frogs. We look forward to meeting you, your four legged friends, and chosen family. Sunrise to Sunset Hikers

Mission Viejo, CA

Sunrise to Sunset Hikers

While this group is primarily focused on hiking, we also enjoy other forms of outdoor fun such as canoeing, biking, kayaking, camping and backpacking.... and a variety of special events including concerts, beach parties, museum, garden, art and holiday walks.

Our success is based in part on our ability to increase the fun factor of outdoor events, often including a social activity such as picnics that include food and beverage. Our organizers also design conditioning hikes that are intended to enhance aerobic fitness and endurance. Our group has peaked virtually all the major mountains in Southern California, including Mt. Whitney. We strive to offer the most fun and scenic outdoor activities available to residents of Orange County.... events that are both in and out of area.

Our group is diverse, including young/middle/senior ages, singles and couples, and a mix of people with differing racial/ethnic/cultural/religious/political backgrounds. The unity of the Sunset Hikes Meetup centers on our shared love of fun, outdoor activities.

We do NOT ask for donations to support our administrative costs or charitable pursuits, however we do ask that you actively and enthusiastically participate in our events. So come on out! Make new friends, get some exercise, and enjoy the great outdoors. We are all about having fun!

Check out the "Our Calendar" tab for a schedule of upcoming activities. We look forward to seeing you at one of our events soon....

We welcome you to the Sunrise to Sunset Hiking family!
