Florida Scrub-Jay Trail

Clermont, FL

Florida Scrub-Jay Trail
![](http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/9/3/e/f/600_434857871.jpeg) The Florida Scrub-Jay Trail provides an excellent birdwatching destination, with a variety of habitats ranging from sandhill/scrub to wetlands adjacent to the Trail, and several species of birds, including Florida’s only endemic species, the Florida Scrub-Jay. The Florida Scrub-Jay Trail was conceived to provide direct, immediate benefit to the Florida Scrub-Jay and its surrounding habitat, and to raise awareness of and involvement in the conservation of the species. In order to accomplish this, land must be cleared of exotic and invasive plant materials and re-planted with scrub oaks, shrubs, and groundcovers, many of which are federally listed as threatened or endangered. Citizens and public agencies work in partnership to accomplish common goals. This is the trailhead for a statewide, interconnected network of Scrub-Jay habitat, ranging from the Lake Wales Ridge to the south to Ocala National Forest to the north; from Sarasota to the west and Merritt Island and Cape Canaveral to the east. These “pockets” of scrub-jay habitats are connected by corridors of restored habitat acquired by private landowners granting conservation easements; lands purchased by land acquisition programs; and public lands available in parks and open space. The Florida Scrub-Jay Trail also provides fun and exciting educational experiences for adults and children alike. Visitors all become honorary “Scrub Scouts” as they head out on the Trail to experience the Scrub-Jay and the plants and other wildlife of the Florida scrub. The Florida Scrub-Jay Trail has proven to deliver a one-of-a-kind up close and personal birding encounter. Admission to the Florida Scrub-Jay Trail is free. Groups are encouraged to experience the Trail either by observing or participating in the restoration by planting trees and other scrub plants. Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Brownies work side-by-side with church groups, and garden clubs with one common cause – to save the Florida Scrub-Jay from extinction. Visit our website at [http://www.scrubjaytrail.org/](http://www.scrubjaytrail.org/). The mission of the Florida Scrub-Jay Consortium is to preserve the Florida Scrub-Jay and its habitat. Your support is very important to us and vital for continuing our mission. Thank you! **To subscribe to our email newsletters, email "Subscribe to Scrub-Jay Trail Newsletters" to info@scrubjaytrail.org. For additional information about the trail, activities, or directions, please contact us directly at info@scrubjaytrail.org or 352-429-5566.** For a membership application or to make a donation, click here: [https://www.scrubjaytrail.org/contact.html](https://www.scrubjaytrail.org/contact.html).

Trauma Survivor Support

Clermont, FL

Trauma Survivor Support
Recovery from "Complex Trauma" AKA "CPTSD" and prolonged trauma not only takes its toll on a person psychologically but physically as well. Support is there. And there is strength in numbers. This is trauma informed meditation. As well as book group study focus. Our nervous system is a fine tuned, sophisticated system designed to ensure our survival. When we encounter threat, it adapts its response — and consequently our behaviour — to our circumstances. Depending on our circumstances, it may activate: * our sympathetic system, if we need to fight or flee * our parasympathetic system, if we need to rest and digest * our dorsal vagus, if we need to freeze * our ventral vagus, if we need to engage and connect with others We are constantly and unconsciously reading our environment for cues of safety, or cues of danger, a process referred to as “neuroception”, and adjusting our behaviour to stay safe, depending on our circumstances. If our nervous system is well regulated, we will respond appropriately to our circumstances and threats (thoughts, feelings, and behaviours), but once the threat is gone, our nervous system should return to homeostasis. If, for instance, you are in a very stressful situation, with financial worries or difficult life circumstances for example, and are feeling extremely stressed and anxious, then your nervous system is responding appropriately to your external circumstances. If our nervous system is dysregulated however, it is reacting to present circumstances on the basis of past stressors rather than current ones. * It gets stuck in a threat response, even once the threat has passed * So we still have physiological and biochemical manifestations of threat, even though our circumstances are safe * There is then a discrepancy between our physiological perception of threat (with the full biological cascade of neuroendocrine dysregulation), and our external reality * * Going through a 'relationship' with more or one individuals with malignant narcissism can leave you feeling lost and questioning your life's purpose. It's important to remember that this difficult period can also be an opportunity for growth and self-discovery. This is a unique challenge but can be overcome! * <> 🧘🏻🧘🏻‍♀️We engage in gentle guided meditation and breathing here to help the body reset its nervous system.✨✨
