Outdoor activities groups near Chicago Ridge, IL

Active Adults with Autism

Hinsdale, IL

Active Adults with Autism
The goal of this group is to give adults with autism a place where they can meet other people and participate in regular social activities. This group is run by adults with autism for adults with autism. Here, people will get chances to get out of the house and meet for fun group activities. These activities will include thing such as hiking, bowling, game nights, dining out, museum trips, fishing, day trips and other fun activities. This will be a place where people are encouraged to take off their masks and be themselves. Where the goal is to make strong lasting friendships. Please note that there will not be chaperones or medical providers present. One of the goals here is for members to rely on each other as friends for any help that may be needed to navigate events. However, please understand that there will be limits to what assistance group members will be able to provide one another. But rest assured that at events we will all stick together to eliminate any confusion and so that any problems which may arise (let's face it-unexpected problems do happen) can be confronted and managed together as a group. This group will not tolerate any bullying or abuse in any form. All adults with autism are welcome regardless of race, culture, faith, sexual orientation, or sexual identity. Respect is a huge issue with this group. We don't need to run each other down. We face enough of that from the outside world. If this sounds like something for you, then we hope to see you at our next event.

Activism for a Starry Chicago Meetup

Chicago, IL

Activism for a Starry Chicago Meetup

•What is this Meetup's purpose?

Can you imagine Chicago with starlight? Are you old enough to remember when Chicago's or neighboring town night skies sparkled with real stars?  Sadly, the National Park Service studies predict that by 2025, 90% of people living in the contiguous U.S. will never see starlight even once in their lifetime because of the exponential encroachment of light pollution. Personally, I think that awareness and activism have the power to restore starlight for future generations. What about you?

• Who should join?

Our ideal members have an appreciation of a starry night sky, and have a willingness to help restore starlight for today's and future generations. Each one of us can help in our own way. This will take creativity, collaboration and support for one other.

•Why should members join?

You can make a real difference.

We could be the last generation in the US to witness a starry night sky.  The National Park Service studies predict by 2025, 90% of people in the contiguous U.S. will never see a starry night sky even once in their lifetime because of the exponential encroachment of light pollution.  The detrimental consequences to the health of humans, ecosystems and environment are well-documented and profoundly sobering.

Brainstorming and working together to spread the word and the solutions can literally result in giving the stars back to all.

• What can members expect out of the group?

We will meet up at various locations throughout the year to listen to talks, brainstorm, and come up with synergistic plans to help get the word out about light pollution in order to restore starlight for future generations providing a healthier environment for people, ecosystems, and the environment.   Whenever appropriate, we'll tie-in telescope viewing, or other ways to enjoy the starry or meteor-filled sky.

Then, whoever can, will put those plans into action. Writing a story, doing a radio interview, offering public testimony, offering talks or special events at schools or nature areas, contacting public officials, recruiting more help and mentors.

• Community:

The synergy of sharing;  The sharing of synergy is key to our community. Every single one of us has something to offer in our own way.  An idea, a song, an experience, a skill, a hope, a dream, a connection--- Together, the possibilities of synergy are endless and unique. We may even be able to restore hidden wonders-- the stars!

We'll meet in person and develop ideas and report progress on our Meetup site.  All are welcome.  Diversity is essential.

Chicago Hiking, Outdoors, & Social Group

Chicago, IL

Chicago Hiking, Outdoors, & Social Group

“May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.” - Unknown

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” - Robert Frost

---------------------------------------

Do you love Hiking and Adventures?

Welcome to the Chicago Hiking, Outdoors, & Social Meetup Group. We strive for adventures, fun, and friendships. This group is for people who enjoy hiking, being outdoors and meeting new people. We feature hikes for all skill levels, canoeing, camping, biking, social gatherings and other outdoor activities. These events are a great way to get out, meet people, and smell some fresh air. If you have a suggestion, please feel free to contact the Organizer or post them on “ideas for meetup” on the calendar page. Most of the activities are pretty tame, but any participation in this group is at your own risk. If you want to meet fun and adventurous people, this group is for you. Come join us. It will be an adventure you won’t soon forget.

Adventures are closer than you think!

---------------------------------------

Get Involved:

We need Assistant Organizers and Event Hosts! If you don't see your preferred activity listed or a hike on your side of town, please volunteer by contacting the Organizer! You might be surprised just how many people are looking to do the same activity that you are. Other ways to volunteer would be a Greeter (Greet new members as they join the group.) or Monthly News Letter Editor (Write articles for a Monthly News Letter to be published on the message board.). We welcome Event & Group Sponsors who need some publicity for a great price!

Why not become a Hike Leader?

---------------------------------------

Monthly Photo Contest:

We are having a Monthly Photo Contest. You have 1 month to upload your favorite photo. At the end of the month, the Assist Organizers will pick the top 12. We will then have a poll for voting on these 12. The members will be able to rate each picture from 1 to 10 rating. The photo with the highest ratings at the end of this month will win. This photo will then be used as the open page picture for following month. The only thing you receive are bragging rights.

Upload January Photos Here: http://www.meetup.com/ChicagoHOS/photos/799681/
Please name the photo and leave a comment about the photo.

So why not amaze the rest of the members with you photography skills?

100 Miles Club and 200 Miles Club:

Are you looking for a Goal to reach? We have two clubs for you. You join the 100 Miles Club when you reach 100 Miles hiking a year with this group only (Chicago Hiking, Outdoors, & Social Meetup Group). You join the 200 Miles Club when you reach 200 Miles hiking a year with any Meetup Groups (Windy City Hikers, this group, etc.). Your Meetup Names will be posted in the About Section in this group.

Let’s start counting those miles!

---------------------------------------

Dues and Fees:

There are no membership dues to be part of this group. For prepay events, we will sometimes add up to three dollars, normally 1 to 2, to the payment to help out with the Meetup.com monthly fees.

For other events, example hikes, we suggest a 1 or 2 dollar donation at the start of the event. This is totally voluntary. No records will be kept for who donates and who doesn’t.

If you want to make a voluntary donation. Go to the top of this page and click on "Pay Online". Enter the amount you would like to donate. Donate any amount you like. This will be paid with Paypal.

We would personally prefer if people would donate their time as an Assistant Organizer or Hike Leader versus making a donation of money. Any help is very much appreciated.

Thank you!

Wikipedia defines Social Clubs as: **Social activities clubs** are a modern combination of several types of clubs and reflect today's more eclectic and varied society. These clubs are centered around the activities available to the club members in the city or area in which the club is located. Some have a traditional clubhouse, bar, or restaurant where members gather; others do not. Events can include a broad range of activities from sporting events and social parties to [ballet](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballet), arts or [book clubs](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_discussion_club). Unlike traditional clubs they are not limited to one kind of event or special interest but include a broad range of events in their monthly calendars. The members choose the events in which the club is going to take part, based upon the changing interests of the members. The members themselves determine the events they will attend of those offered. And so it is.....We are a Social Activities Club......In the truest sense and form. With being a Social Activities Club comes Rules. Mission Statement: To continue to be as engaged and relevant in this stage of our lives as we were leading up to it. By doing so we can continue to learn, to grow, to embrace life in ways that enrich our own and all of those we meet along the way. Vision Statement: To make new friends, share old and new interests and live a life full of activities that are diverse, interesting and fulfilling.

Southwest Suburbs Girls Night Out Group

Chicago Ridge, IL

Southwest Suburbs Girls Night Out Group
Missing the opportunity for good conversation, laughs that make your belly hurt, and real women who understand you? This Group, generally for women aged 40+ (not a rule; just a guideline -- ages of our Members range from early-40s to late-70s), is for you! Meet some local women, make new friends, and visit with some you've met in the past. We will get together for drinks, dancing, movies, coffee, lunch, dinner, sporting events, wine tastings, spa outings, shopping events, TV show activities, book club and anything else that will be FUN! Both weekend and weekday dates will be chosen... depending on everyone's interests! Our "focus area" is generally from Chicago Ridge to Tinley Park and Blue Island to Plainfield / Shorewood / Joliet -- but, if it's FUN, we are there!!!! THE MOST important thing about this Group is that you KEEP YOUR RSVP "up to date"!!  If you sign up for an event, then have to back out, contact the Event Host for that particular event IMMEDIATELY!!  In many cases, reservations have been made -- or plans determined -- based on the # of yes RSVPs.  \*All "guests" should be women approximately age 35+, unless otherwise noted.\* **\*\**IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS*\*\* are encouraged and always welcome!! If there is something you would like to do / see / attend, you can bet there is at least one other person who is also interested.** If you join this Group, you must remain "active" in the Group.  What does this mean?  You MUST attend a Girls Night Out event at least 1x every 3 months or you will be removed from the Group. Thanks.
