"Great Outdoors Group"

Have you ever thought about what you would do if you become lost while on a day hike? How about if you injured yourself miles from civilization and were unable to move? Then, all too quickly dusk approaches and the realization that you will be spending the night in the wilderness begins to sets in. Being prepared for this type of situation and having a well-established plan could mean the difference between life and death. That is why at the “Great Outdoors and Survival”, our chief aim is to help people build their knowledge of wilderness survival skills. Upon learning these skills members will understand how to: become self-sufficient in the wilderness, formulate a concrete plan to getting rescued safely when lost or injured and build outdoor leadership/confidence skills.

The “Great Outdoors and Survival” strongly believe a subject must be mastered before it can be taught; therefore, our teaching methods have been developed through years of education, practice, experiences, and dedication of our instructors and we structure our lesson around a fundamental survival principle commonly known as the Rule’s of 3.

So what are the Rules of 3?

The rule’s of 3 are the guidelines that state you cannot survive more than:

-3 minutes without air

-3 Hours without shelter or proper clothing

-3 days without water

-3 weeks without food

Classes we host:

-Wilderness Survival Kits

-Shelter Building

-Wild Edible Plants

-Tracking

-Fire Starting

-Water Purification

-Land Navigation

And much much more…

Active Adults with Autism

Hinsdale, IL

Active Adults with Autism
The goal of this group is to give adults with autism a place where they can meet other people and participate in regular social activities. This group is run by adults with autism for adults with autism. Here, people will get chances to get out of the house and meet for fun group activities. These activities will include thing such as hiking, bowling, game nights, dining out, museum trips, fishing, day trips and other fun activities. This will be a place where people are encouraged to take off their masks and be themselves. Where the goal is to make strong lasting friendships. Please note that there will not be chaperones or medical providers present. One of the goals here is for members to rely on each other as friends for any help that may be needed to navigate events. However, please understand that there will be limits to what assistance group members will be able to provide one another. But rest assured that at events we will all stick together to eliminate any confusion and so that any problems which may arise (let's face it-unexpected problems do happen) can be confronted and managed together as a group. This group will not tolerate any bullying or abuse in any form. All adults with autism are welcome regardless of race, culture, faith, sexual orientation, or sexual identity. Respect is a huge issue with this group. We don't need to run each other down. We face enough of that from the outside world. If this sounds like something for you, then we hope to see you at our next event.

Plainfield Walk and Hike

Plainfield, IL

Plainfield Walk and Hike
“Not all girls are made of sugar and spice, and everything nice. Some girls are made of adventure, fine beer, brains and no fear.“ --Or maybe somewhere in between!  This group is for **men** and **women** who enjoy having others to join them for **outdoor activities**. We are looking for like-minded individuals to come together for hikes and other outdoor activities to promote fitness and well-being. We walk at a very brisk pace. If that is not your current pace, feel free to come out to weeknight hikes (weekends are too rigorous for the novice hikers), but please realize that people will probably walk faster than you at the beginning and you can eventually adapt to meet the pace of the group.  Please note that you are ultimately responsible for yourself, your safety and your ability to complete a hike or event. If you begin the activity, you must be able to complete it or successfully see yourself back to your vehicle.  The organizer and other members cannot take responsibility for you.  We believe in encouraging others to reach new potential and health benefits, but to also be mindful of their own abilities and to be patient to slowly adapt their abilities.  While I would like to hike locally, often, I am hoping to keep it interesting and to add other locations...like Starved Rock, Matthiessen State Park, etc. It is **MANDATORY** to post a picture of yourself, simply for the purpose of members being able to recognize you when you are joining us on events. It is a courtesy so that we all feel safe and welcomed! I hope you enjoy your time with us!

Naperville Hiking, Biking and Outdoor Enthusiasts!

Naperville, IL

Naperville Hiking, Biking and Outdoor Enthusiasts!
We have been leading hikes since Dec. 2007. Please come out and meet other local hiking, biking and outdoor enthusiasts. We are dedicated to hiking and biking excursions near and far, with a focus on leaving no trace of litter on our lands. We hope you will join us on our adventures!   Let us know what you would like to see and do; We encourage you to share your ideas and/or suggestions with a hike leader or by contacting the Organizers (Janine and Lary). Let's get out there and have fun! We occasionally host a dog friendly event, but require dogs to be on a leash at all times during our meetups. Not all hikes and/or locations allow dogs. Event Organizers will determine and post a message on hikes where friendly canine companions are welcome to attend. If you wish to bring your dog, please contact the event organizer to ask first.  The Event Organizers of the **Naperville Hiking, Biking and Outdoor Enthusiast**s do not profess to be professionals of any sort. Rather, we are just regular people willing to donate our time to bring people together to do an activity we were going to do on our own. We do this because a shared experience is more rewarding. Hiking, Biking and Paddling a small watercraft are inherently dangerous activities. This group, its organizers, assistant organizers, and event organizers will not be held responsible for any injuries or accidents that may occur carpooling to and from an event or for any injuries or accidents before, during, and after group events. If you sign up and join us on an event you are acknowledging that you freely and voluntarily assume all risks of injuries and damages and agree to participate in the event/outing. In addition, if you bring a guest, you are acknowledging that you have made the guest aware of this Waiver of Liability and they will also freely and voluntarily assume all risks of injuries and damages and agree to participate in the event/outing.
