"Great Outdoors Group"

Have you ever thought about what you would do if you become lost while on a day hike? How about if you injured yourself miles from civilization and were unable to move? Then, all too quickly dusk approaches and the realization that you will be spending the night in the wilderness begins to sets in. Being prepared for this type of situation and having a well-established plan could mean the difference between life and death. That is why at the “Great Outdoors and Survival”, our chief aim is to help people build their knowledge of wilderness survival skills. Upon learning these skills members will understand how to: become self-sufficient in the wilderness, formulate a concrete plan to getting rescued safely when lost or injured and build outdoor leadership/confidence skills.

The “Great Outdoors and Survival” strongly believe a subject must be mastered before it can be taught; therefore, our teaching methods have been developed through years of education, practice, experiences, and dedication of our instructors and we structure our lesson around a fundamental survival principle commonly known as the Rule’s of 3.

So what are the Rules of 3?

The rule’s of 3 are the guidelines that state you cannot survive more than:

-3 minutes without air

-3 Hours without shelter or proper clothing

-3 days without water

-3 weeks without food

Classes we host:

-Wilderness Survival Kits

-Shelter Building

-Wild Edible Plants

-Tracking

-Fire Starting

-Water Purification

-Land Navigation

And much much more…

Chicago Burbs Outdoor Adventures and Hiking

Fox River Grove, IL

Chicago Burbs Outdoor Adventures and Hiking
This meetup group is for hikers of all experience levels who are looking to see new places and try new things. This provides a chance for people to make new friends through a shared love for the outdoors. Most hikes will be around the Chicago and Suburban area and occasionally Wisconsin. There is no charge for any hike and no donations with few exceptions. Exceptions include entrance to State parks in WI, overnight campground fees, overnight lodging and shared transportation when people carpool. The meetup event will detail such costs in advance. Hikes range from 3 to 12 miles and pace of 3mph or a little under. All ages welcome! Hikes in this group will be cross posted in other hiking groups and noted within the event. **Group History** This meetup group was originally known as The NW Burbs Camping. It was established back in July 2007! Previous organizers have held hundreds of fun social events and you can view past events on the calendar. The group was renamed at some point and had several different organizers over time. Prior to July 5th, 2023 this meetup group had a broader scope which included camping, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, snow shoeing, campfires, and other activities. The name was changed to The Great Lakes Outdoor Adventure Meetup. I'm changing the name again because I do not expect a heavy focus on other states at this time. The events in this group will always be cross posted with https://www.meetup.com/chicagoland-trailblazers-hiking-group/ as an outreach to members in other geographic areas since we hike all over. This enables us to reach members of further away communities. All rules/policies specified in https://www.meetup.com/chicagoland-trailblazers-hiking-group/ also apply to this group.

N2BD Adventure & Travel Group - Chicago

Schaumburg, IL

N2BD Adventure & Travel Group - Chicago
**13 YEARS in the Meetup community. N2BD was founded in January 2011 and is still run by its original organizer.** **N2BD Local Adventure and Travel is a group of adults mostly in their mid 20's, 30's, and 40's who share an enthusiasm and interest for intermediate to advanced adventure activities.** Sound like fun? Join other adventurers who think the same! We welcome singles and couples who like getting thrills through activities like Rock Climbing, Canyoneering, Hiking, Kayaking, White Water Rafting, Camping, Backpacking, Mountaineering, ATVing, Sailing, Snowmobiling, Snow Skiing, Snowboarding, Water Skiing, Jet Skiing, and more. From local weekends to world journeys... together, we'll discover amazing destinations and incredible adventures. **One of the intentions of this group is to have members that are active, keeping the size of the meetup events at a reasonable number, and to develop REAL friendships and camaraderie.** Over the past 12 years, the N2BD Adventure Meetup group has been to the Smoky Mountains, Badlands, Yosemite, Acadia, Sequoia, Yellowstone, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Grand Teton, Cuyahoga Valley, Rocky Mountain, Glacier, and Mammoth Cave National Parks. Devil's Tower, Mount Rushmore, and Perry's Victory National Monuments. White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire and many US cities. We have been to dozens of state parks from Iowa, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and Michigan to name a few states. Please take a moment to check out our calendar of upcoming events below. This is a great community of outdoor and adventure seekers! We cater to people of all skill levels and to various interests... from beginners to advance. We are not experts in all adventures and will take classes to learn or improve our skills. In addition, we welcome anyone who is skilled in a certain area and interested in organizing and leading future adventures to please contact us. When we can N2BD Adventure organizers will hire professional guides with local knowledge or skills to help us with our events. We at N2BD Adventure also know it's hard to always be active in the outdoors so we will also periodically have a social meet-up as well. Organizers in N2BD Adventure are volunteers who help facilitate group trips. Normally, these trips are over a weekend to destinations in the Midwest, within a three to eight-hour drive or flight from Chicago. We also take into account that most of us have very busy lives and can not always accommodate multi-day trips, so we have a variety of single-day trips. We plan most of our events for fun as well as adventure. There's power in numbers and our mission is for everyone to have fun, meet new friends and save money. So what are you waiting for... join today and let's have some fun! **A little about the N2BD Adventure group Founder.**  After being an organizer for several meetup groups for a few years Richard thought it was time to start his own group in 2011. He wanted to plan more advanced trips, explore new places, and give his organizers the freedom to plan anything fun. N2BD Adventure was born after a few of us met at a signals snow tubing event back in 2008. We then grew through meeting each other's friends on hikes and other actives over the year. Then after discovering the meetup site in late Summer 2008 and a few other great Chicago meet-up groups the family grew. The N2BD Adventure group name was born on a car ride home from a hike in the spring of 2008. We were thinking of a name to call the adventure group and someone came up with N2BD (Name to be Determined). In January 2011 we joined the Meetup community. **Dues and Fees:** Every Meetup Group has to pay monthly dues to Meetup.com to have their group exist. If group funding is low we might also ask for $1 per person at some meet-up events to help pay the Meetup fees. For some bigger trips, we will sometimes add a sign-up fee to help out with the Meetup.com monthly fees.  Hope to see you soon and let's have some great adventures! Richard and the N2BD Group Leadership Team. **Participation in any group activity with this N2BD Adventure Group is at your own risk.** To the fullest extent allowed by law, you waive any claims against and agree to indemnify and hold harmless the N2BD Adventure Group, its affiliates, organizers, officers, directors, and contractors from, all claims or liability of every type (including court costs and legal fees) for injury or death to any person or for damage to property arising out of or relating to your participation as a member. This agreement applies to you and any other party who may accompany you in these endeavors.

Hiking Feet, Trail Feet

Saint Charles, IL

Hiking Feet, Trail Feet
**About** This is a group created for people who love to hit the trails on weekends. If you are looking to enjoy the outdoors, practice your hobbies and socialize with like-minded group, you are most welcome to join us! We seriously want to enjoy those trails!! We are a fun group of all ages and abilities, and we just want to keep fit and have fun out there. **Activities** Depending on the season, we schedule short hikes, long hikes, easy hikes, and moderately challenging hikes. Hikes will be mostly around 5-10 miles in and around North, West, and South suburbs. We occasionally schedule day hikes located in Indiana, Iowa, and Wisconsin, including weekend camping, and road trips. We strive to accurately describe the hike and trail condition, but certain things are beyond our control, such as sudden weather changes, downed trees, ponding, mud, bugs, ticks, or any inconveniences real or imagined. These activities are free, and voluntary and it is expected that attendees will have checked the weather before leaving, be on time, come prepared, and be responsible for their own safety. **Attendance** The events organized are limited to a small group of people and sometimes, events have a waitlist. We therefore expect a bit of courtesy for people to sign up only if they can attend and to manage their RSVP at least two days before the scheduled event. **Weather** Weather is always a major factor to consider in organizing events. We do scheduled hikes in all Seasons but limit the mileage in the Summer to 5miles or less when temperature is too uncomfortable, or schedule it later in the afternoon when the sun is not too harsh. Hikes may also be canceled due to rain but not if it is only a drizzle. **On the trail** It has been our experience that some people walk faster than the rest of the group. That is not a problem, just please let the event host know you are going ahead and not stopping to check a tree, look at animals or take photos. Maybe we'll see you in the parking lot afterwards.

Cheers 2

Glen Ellyn, IL

Cheers 2
**About us**  Social happy hour, dining, dancing, festivals, outdoor activities, and whatever the event organizers wish to do! There is no fee to attend events or be part of this group. Some venues may charge an admission fee. An organizer may host Outdoor Winter activities such as skiing or ice skating. I'll host year-round hikes if they are in the area. This group changed names multiple times. Someone then told me to name it "Cheers 2" so I did. Earlier it was based on the final episode of Cheers sitcom [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hP21b-AAXJk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hP21b-AAXJk) . This group is mostly for ages 40s+ but not restrictive of other ages. Most events are held in the West Suburban area. We are expanding the areas where events are held. Organizers can host events wherever they want. There are no attendance requirements but please change your rsvp to NO if your plans change and unable to go to an event. Below are some reasons for removal from this group. **Rudeness, yelling at restaurant staff or skipping out without paying for your meal:** It happened at Eden restaurant event. Yelling at the manager because your gin and tonic took too long to get. Three people skipping out without paying for their food. If you walk out without paying and I find out who you are and you refuse to settle, you will be removed from this group. **General rudeness to another person in meetup** I intended this group to be friendly and welcoming. If I hear about people being really nasty to someone else then the perpetrator may be removed from the group. **Reporting a member to meetup in order to get them banned from meetup:** Please message me first if you experience conflict to the level where you want the person removed entirely from meetup! This is to prevent an unfortunate situation where the person who was reported and banned from meetup was also an event host. All of the person's events disappeared entirely. What's worse, people had paid for such event that disappeared. I spent 3 hours of my time trying to figure out why an event that people paid for suddenly disappeared. I was clueless. Finally got to the bottom of it. A member had a conflict with a person who was an event host and reported them to meetup to get them banned. We sorted it out but if this happens again the person who makes such a report will be removed from this group. **Leaving a one star review of a venue that does not deserve it:** I work hard to find venues that are suitable for our group. I spend hours driving around, checking it out, calling, and asking questions. Many do not accept separate checks even for party of just 8. Some want a deposit of $1000 to $2500 dollars to rent an area if you have more than 20 people. Others request that each person spend at least $25 or else I'm liable. Others state to me that I will be responsible for $25.00 fee for each empty seat at table when there is a popular band playing (tables for 20 in this case at Manhattans). Others want me to sign a contract of some kind. Some say that everyone must be there or we can't be seated, even for a party of just 12. If your food was not prepared to your satisfaction at any event (Steak over cooked, cold mash potatoes), please let staff know at the time of the event. I**ntolerance of others in our group**  Any expressions of hatred or demeaning comments will cause a person to be blocked out  of this meetup group. Please message me privately if you experience this.  I will not allow any expressions of this sort based on political party, race, ethnicity, LGBTQ, religion, handicap (mental or physical), age, or gender.  This includes comments I happen to see in other meetup group comments. **Sexual Harassment** This is not a hook up singles group and people have a right to be left alone if their not interested. Please message me if you receive unsolicited meetup messages from people you don't know. **Our political differences** Any discussions must be civilized. We don't want a fight to break out while we're dining, or anytime for that matter.  If your not capable of engaging in civil political discussions then either stay silent or ask to join another table if its a restaurant venue. **Let the event organizer lead the event:** If an event organizer lists a specific location where they will be at a venue then that's where the group is meeting. Event hosting takes time and effort. Please do not hijack an event and tell people "No, we're sitting here instead". This causes confusion and that's totally unnecessary. Hijacking an event in this manner is cause for removal from this group. I didn't think it would be necessary to add this policy to this group but a situation was reported to me on 08/18/23. That's like me hosting a dinner event and then some member comes in and tells people to go to another restaurant instead. Or, like me arriving to lead a hike (different group) and then upon my arrival a bunch of people are leaving because a member already did my hike for me (yeah that happened). Or, like me leading a hike and then a member demands that the group follow them instead (yeah that's happened too). The event organizers have final say in where the group is to meet and all other aspects of that event. They can also remove people who rsvp who have caused issues at a previous meetup. "Issues" are listed above. **Other general policies:** **NO SHOW at Sit Down Dining events** This only applies to restaurants where we have a limited number of people who can attend and we sit down together and have a meal. If you are a NO SHOW without reason you may not be able to attend events with limited seating. All meetup event hosts expect people to change their RSVP to NO if plans change. **Sharing phone numbers of members of the group** It is never ok to share phone numbers of people in the group with others without their permission. Please do not share any other personally identifiable information about others such as last name or address. **Event Organizers** Event organizers must report inappropriate conduct of any member to me immediately after an event thru email, private message or phone call. Safety is of everyone's concern and I also wish to keep this group respectful of others. **Event Organizers** To prevent fraud, use of your own personal Zelle/payment account for pre-paid events is not allowed. We recently found out that if a member leaves meetup altogether their event completely disappears. Most of us know each other but we have a few new event organizers. Pre-paid events must use a third party payment system, for example a music venue, theatre or sports arena that has its own link to pay. **Un-hosted events are not allowed!** I didn't even know about it until few years ago when Gregg (organizer of TGIF) notified me. I was very thankful that Gregg mentioned this to me. Up until that time I was posting "un-hosted meetup events" because someone suggested an event to me, it sounded great, I thought people would really like it, but I couldn't host. For your convenience, I'm copying and pasting content from https://help.meetup.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002897712-Meetup-groups-and-events-policies *"It can be a little intimidating to show up to an event where you don’t know anyone,* *so having a host at every event is important for making members feel comfortable and welcome.* *All Meetup events must have an in-person host present to help connect attendees,* *manage relationships with venues, and bring structure to the events. The host must,* *at a minimum, make members aware of the event location, and act as a point of contact during the event.* *If a business or an organization is sponsoring an event, the event description must identify a contact person who will be present at the event.* *If Meetup receives reports that there is no one present in-person hosting a* *Meetup group’s events, we may remove the group at our sole discretion."* If an event organizer has posted an event and then cannot attend later for some reason then either * Cancel the event and give the reason why * Find a person who can act as a one time host and agrees to host. Make that person official host in meetup event. Posting of any other un-hosted events will result in change back to member role and loss of ability to post events. I expect that event organizers will have some skills in mentioning whether or not there is a reservation and what the reservation is under (Cheers2 or your own name). If there is no reservation then event hosts shall mention in comments where they are at. **History of the group** This group was founded recently in June 2018 as a Woman's social group for ages 45 and up. I've renamed it a few times since then. Cheers 2 is here to stay.
