Monadnock Region Outdoor Adventures

Jaffrey, NH

Monadnock Region Outdoor Adventures
This is a group for those who live in the Monadnock region and would like to enjoy outdoor adventures in the company of good people. Moderate hikes on the lower peaks in the region and beyond that are 2500 feet or lower, easy or moderate hikes/walks in the region such as Gap Mountain, Wapack, Little Monadnock, Bald Mountain, Harris Center Conservation, Madame Sherri Forest and easy grade nature trails; kayaking, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, and winter snowshoeing are just a few of the things you may find here. Winter hiking is also offered. Novice level and above are welcome. For novice but experienced hikers interested in exploring the summits of the 4000 footers, the Monadnock Region can be a great introduction to the outdoors. With moderate hiking challenges (600-1000 foot elevation gains) the regions well maintained trails are the perfect training grounds for people looking to get into shape to tackle the tall peaks. Looking for some R & R? The region offers amble-uninterrupted sounds of nature that will melt your daily stresses away. **Our pace:** Summit/elevation hikes are typically 1 to 1.8 mph. Easy conservation area hikes are 2 to 2.5 mph. We hike at a casual pace with multiple breaks for rest or photos. If this is not your pace or hiking style we may not be the group for you. **Hike length:** Typically hikes are 3 to 6 miles but more on average of 3 to 4 miles. **Donations welcome to offset cost of the organizer dues. Current dues for the organizer is $210 year. No obligation but if you feel obliged you can give a donation to the organizer of this meetup group. At the current time we do not plan to charge dues for membership.** **RSVP etiquette -** * *When RSVP to events we ask that you RSVP yes if you feel certain you can attend/participate. We ask that if you change your RSVP please make the change as soon as you know so others can go in your place.* * *Frequent RSVP changes from yes to no may result in a member being staying on the waitlist for future events.* * *If anyone cancels the day of the event more than 4 times they will be removed from our roster.* * *Any member who signs up for their first event and then **NO SHOWS** without communication to event host will receive a courtesy message asking for reason. First **NO SHOW** will be forgiven but **2nd NO SHOW** a member will be released from our roster.* **Events Host/Event Organizers wanted!**  I encourage the members of this group to consider becoming an event host or event organizers. We need event organizers who are experienced for hiking, kayaking, cross country skiing, downhill skiing and cycling. Please private message organizer if interested. Criteria to be an event organizer is a minimum of attending one hike with this group. I will make an exception if you are an event organizer in another meetup group or similar such as AMC. ***Photo Policy*** \- Safety of all members is our priority\. For this reason\, we require all members to have a profile photo of themselves that is forward facing where your face is able to be seen clearly\. Our organizers need to recognize members at events\. Members who do not have a recognizable and fairly current photo are not allowed on events\. If a potential member does not have an approved photo for this meetup group you will not be allowed to join but can reapply with an appropriate photo of yourself\. **Happy Trails.... Hope we will see you soon!**

North Central MA-Southern NH Hiking Group

Leominster, MA

North Central MA-Southern NH Hiking Group
*PLEASE READ - TO ALL MEMBERS: For safety reasons, your profile should have a clear and current photo of your human self (face) so that event hosts can recognize you when you arrive at an event. If it does not, your profile will get deleted.* *Also note that if your profile indicates that you have remained inactive (meaning, not attending an event) for a period of six (6) months, your profile will be removed from this group. So sign up and attend an event soon!* With that stuff out of the way, welcome to a very active and social MeetUp group!! Here you will find local people who are interested in hiking (in all seasons) and other activities for fun and fitness. We also cycle (on and off road), snowshoe, kayak, and cross country ski. We explore urban areas (large and small), visit museums, meet for dinner, go dancing, hear live music, and take in a movie once in a while. This group is a lot of fun, friendly, and always open to new ideas for meetups and new places to explore. We consider the regions originally intended, which are north central Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire, but we venture out now and then to lands beyond our region. The difficulty of this group's hikes is normally set by the event host(s) to allow the maximum amount of participation for the maximum amount of members. Generally, a moderate pace of approximately 2 mph should be expected on most hikes. When hikes are planned that are more difficult, such as Mount Monadnock, the description of the meet-up will include this fact. Our goal is to enjoy the outdoors while meeting people interested in the same - not to conquer the mountains. Our hikes are also paced to keep everyone in the group more or less together throughout the entire hike. Weather is obviously a major factor in any of our hikes. We try not to cancel meet-ups for light rain - we are outdoors after all. However, in the case of heavy rain and/or lightning, we'll try to cancel at least 24 hours ahead of time. The best advice is to check your email the morning of a meet-up for any cancellations. ***Please consider contributing to help support this wonderful group. Funds are used to offset the yearly dues for this MeetUp group. You can send a check, made payable to "MeetUp," to Tamara Huston, 182 Middle Street, Leominster, MA 01453.*** **A note about conduct**: We are a group of like-minded people who enjoy getting together (for hiking mostly). Although members often develop friendships (and sometimes relationships) outside of the group, Meetup.com and the North Central MA/Southern NH Hiking group are not designed primarily to encourage dating or unwanted romantic attention. It's very important that all members of the group feel welcome on all of our events (not just the hikes). So please, respect the boundaries of your fellow adventurers. It's appropriate to contact someone through the Meetup site, or through email or phone, information that the member has given you, but encroaching beyond a person's comfort level is inappropriate. People who cross the line after being warned will be excluded from the group. *You do not need to RSVP "no" to an event unless you are changing your rsvp from a "yes" to a "no."* *Anyone soliciting products or services through this group without the organizers' permission will be removed from the group immediately. To discourage this kind of behavior, I ask that group members do not buy any products or services from anyone trying to sell them through this group or this website.* If you have any questions or concerns about this MeetUp group, please contact any of the event organizers listed in the left hand column of the webpage. Thank you, Tamara Meetup has changed our email address to: [north-central-ma-southern-nh-hiking-group-announce@messages.meetup.com](mailto:north-central-ma-southern-nh-hiking-group-announce@messages.meetup.com) == Legal Stuff === While event hosts attempt to plan events that will work for everyone and will try to anticipate and head off problems, you should not participate in hiking events if you would not be able to safely complete the described hike on your own. For all group hikes, think of your meetup organizer as fulfilling a social function in getting like minded people together. Please always review the event descriptions carefully. Learning about the terrain, conditions, local weather and your equipment before you start *is your responsibility*. Any attempts to increase the comfort and safety of events should not lead you to believe that event hosts are taking responsibility for your safety. By signing up for events, you are indicating that you are an adult who has the skills and ability to safely complete the described hike. Do not RSVP yes if this is not the case, as we will be relying on your judgment of your skills and ability. To read more about hiking safety, check out hikeSafe.com. By RSVPing "yes" to one of our events, North Central MA-Southern NH Group members and their guests agree to release, hold harmless, and indemnify the event organizer(s) and all members participating in the event from any and all claims for property damage, injury, and/or death while attending events. In consideration for accepting this entry, I, the registrant, intending to be legally bound, hereby, for myself, my heirs, my executors and administrators, do waive and release any and all rights for damages I may have against any parties or persons connected with the North Central MA-Southern NH Group for and related to any event which I attend. I attest and verify that I (and any guest(s) I bring) are physically fit to participate, and that I assume all risks associated with the events I or my guest(s) voluntary attend. I grant North Central MA-Southern NH Group permission to use any photographs, film or videotapes of all events for any purpose. As always, be safe and have fun.

Wildflower Farm Writers

Berlin, MA

Wildflower Farm Writers
The purpose of this group is to gather creative thinkers and writers to write together, critique each other, and to help each other grow. This group is an off shoot of our book club. Some of us are also readers. A few of us also write so we decided to start another group for ourselves to write together and to open it up to grow our community. This is a woman's writing group focused on women trying to write either for fun or more seriously. We do fun and creative exercises for short things, and some of us too are working on larger bodies of work. This is a new idea and the nice thing about it is that those joining can help us work out the finer details, culture, methods, and activities. We are here for all writers, all levels, all varieties of people, all genders, sexual preferences, colors. Be patient till you tell us how you want to be viewed/ called/personal pronouns/ anything and everything else. We will honor whatever you choose. Everyone is an individual. We love all types. Respect matters. This group is about honest reviews. Be critical, be honest about your view. This information is helpful. We are here to grow, learn, and improve. There is a difference between being mean, and being honest and critical to be helpful. Please know the difference, and if you don't... wait and think about it and try to say it if you really think it makes a difference and can be helpful, figure out the kindest way to say it. The goal is to make each other better. Cruelty is not welcome nor does it make anyone better. This group meets on a private homestead farm that doubles as a tiny B&B. So the covid rules are very strict. To attend our meetings you must present proof of being vaccinated and UTD on all covid boosters. We test before any and all indoor group meetings during surges in our area/s. Each meeting is strictly limited to 10 people. We hope to get a nice group of people who really want to attend and participate. in nice weather we meet outdoors, where we can watch the goats playing on the hill, from under the wisteria in the heart of the herb garden. In cold icky weather we meet indoors by the wood stove. We are potluck so bring whatever snacks you want. Wine, etc, welcome. No one leaves here unfit to drive. Joining this group you agree to stay here in the event you are unfit to drive till you are fit to leave here. Don't be insulted if anyone doesn't eat something you brought. People have allergies, personal taste, and other food related issues. It isn't about you. It says nothing about you or what you bring. Must love dogs. Loving cats is optional. Stories welcome. Conspiracies unwelcome unless they are part of your writing piece.

Wildflower Farm Women's Book Club

Berlin, MA

Wildflower Farm Women's Book Club
Wildflower Farm, is a small roughly 5 acre homestead farm in Berlin MA, the Worcester/metro west area. We are a crew rather devoted to our club and showing up for it. We have been reading together now for loosely 2 and a half years. This club was birthed shortly after the Covid vaccine, when a bunch of isolated women got vaccinated and decided to start a book club. It was a beautiful sunny day in June. To be precise, it was the fifth of June. 4 women came together, chose books, and read together. Just like that, on the back patio, sipping lemonade and eating snacks, a sisterhood was born. Many things have changed with time, some have left new ones have joined.... Some have stuck around.... One thing has never changed. At our foundation, we are all about Covid safety, books, and each other. We meet in person monthly so if you are looking for an online meeting, this isn't it. We check everyone's vaccine card when they come to their first meeting. No UTD on vaccination, no admittance. When Covid is spiking in the area, we ask all members attending to take a covid test within 24 hours of attendance. By utilizing these tools and keeping our meetings to under 12 people, we don't require masking as due diligence is done. We often meet outside as well when weather permits. Yes, on the back patio or soon in the greenhouse, or on hot days over at the pool.. Once a month we meet to discuss our shared reading experience. Irregularly we meet to do things together, canning, candle making, the occasional movie based on our monthly read or similar in nature... We have discussed doing King Richard's Fair, and the odd museum visit or other various activities. We also meet bi yearly to select new books. Every 6 months anyone who has attended at least 3 of our book discussions is welcome at this meeting. Everyone gets a vote. All votes are equal. Together we then hash out the next 6 months worth of books, and create an order. We visit club culture discuss changes we want to make things we want to try etc... This is a small cozy club, which means there is a lot of room for club culture creation and suggestions. The goal, is to have a club that is magical for all of us. Our goal is to be a group of women from many different walks of life all bringing our own experiences to our reads and book discussions. We welcome all women, of all colors, sexual preferences, etc... Every woman in this group is fierce and strong. Everyone's opinion is right. Everyone is entitled to their feelings and opinions. Books are subjective works of art. There is no right and wrong. Polite disagreement is totally fine. We are not above a good debate. This book club, is all about women supporting women, we let the world out there go. We build up the other members of this book loving sorority, even when we disagree. We share a bond based on respect for our differences and similarities as well as our disagreements. a desire to understand where each of us is coming from, in an effort to better understand what we are reading. This club was created as a place women can fully be who they are. At our gatherings, we never worry about how to dumb ourselves down to appease men, or what the neighbors will think, or anything else equally confining and restrictive. It is ok not to smile, no you won't be prettier if you do. Even if you would be, who cares? No one here will command you to smile. You get to control and choose the expression on your own face. Here you have no duty to dress a certain way, makeup is entirely up to you. We don't judge. We would rather share company and bond over books. We are the women who love libraries, books, adventures and experiences that can only be found between 2 covers or on a tablet. This group is for those committed to meeting regularly to discuss our shared monthly reading experience. Our reading adventures can be rather eclectic. We tend to do some mysteries, women's fiction, standard fiction, gothic, fantasy, classics, non fiction, etc, and more. While we have a slight focus on feminism, we believe the best form of feminism is the one in which women are free to engage as they choose with what they choose. Where women get to choose and pursue their own interests. We are not always in the mood for feminist lit. Often enough we enjoy other things also. We are the spirited, swashbuckling, devotees of Seshat, following our inner moonlight as we traverse this vast universe in search of the first star to the right before traveling on towards morning. In a space boat, that runs on fairy dust, and is made of a book. Pioneering our way through each new literary adventure. Crossing the unnumbered seas of the imagination. Weathering the storms as we wander together, anywhere a book can take us. "May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out."- Galadriel / Tolkien ##
