Primary activities include hiking, mountaineering, camping, biking and many other seasonal Outdoor activities. Some activities involve kids and families. We are active year-around, enjoying all seasons and outdoor terrains of the US. Organizers expect new members to join for active participation in group meetups as per the mission above and not for increased meetup memberships, business or professional networking, socialization etc. We keep the group small to outdoors active members and No Attendance within 3 months of joining removes you from the group. We can adequately prepare you for Outdoor activities during all seasons. The group is for adults over the age of 18 who would like to participate in Outdoors activities as a group. Any participants below the age of 18 must be accompanied by their guardian. Likewise, the organizers of the group are adults over 18 years of age and are conducting/organizing events on a volunteer basis. No one is legally responsible for any unexpected injury or death during the event. Personal Health, safety and knowledge of the event is personal responsibility of the participant. This meetup group is just a friendly group of people who are passionate in the field. The group is focused on community from South-east Asia and organizer reserves the right to approve the Join request.

This meetup is for people in the Silver Spring area who enjoy being outdoors and want to meet and socialize with other area residents. We plan outdoor activities of short duration (typically <3 hours) and within an hour drive of Silver Spring. While the group may host any outdoor activity most of our events involve walking or hiking about four miles. We often walk on the stream valley trails that form a network in and around Silver Spring. In the winter, weeknight walks are more often in neighborhoods where there are streetlights. Members are encouraged to suggest and organize outdoor events. It is helpful if you can post a photo of yourself on your profile (even better if it is outdoors). Dues for this meet-up are $5 per year. Any member who hosts a meet-up event will automatically be exempt from dues for the calendar year. New members have a free trial of 2 months before paying dues. Members who are inactive for more than two months and have not paid dues may be dropped. Dues are paid in cash to the organizer to avoid processing fees which are high. The dues go to pay the Meetup fee for hosting the website which is currently $209.78 per year. Some rules/guidelines: Anyone over 18 can join. Children are welcome as a guest of a member as long as they are supervised and can keep up with the described activity. Dogs are welcome as long as they are friendly, leashed, you pick up after them and they are allowed in the area where we will be. If you have any questions about an event after reading the description, please message the event organizer privately or post a comment. No Show policy: You are a no show if you have signed up to attend an event (RSVP'd yes) and do not attend. If you change your RSVP at the last minute and give no reason that will be counted as a no show. If a member shows a pattern of signing up for events then not attending they may be dropped from the group since their RSVPs are preventing others from participating. In most cases members will be dropped from the group after two no shows.

We will come together for a variety of outings and get togethers that bring us happiness and joy. Hiking, walks, and other outdoor activities for our body. Historical / scientific sightseeing and related discussions for our minds. Social gatherings such as brunches, board games, dinners, and happy hours for our spirits. **POLICIES** Group participation relies on respectful adherence to RSVP / code of conduct policies, culture fit, and active engagement. This group maintains the same at will preference that members have with their groups / events. We all contribute to maintaining our positive group dynamic. For those that are aged 40 and up following CDC guidelines. This is a meetup to provide outdoor enjoyment with wine and good conversation during these crazy years.  A shared love of the grape ;). We have a medley of events from area vineyards to wine tastings locally in Fairfax, Clifton and Arlington. Our hosts bring their expertise in helping plan for fun places and sharing of good wine. Please note that over the year we've had several folk sign up for events and then not show. Please, keep your RSVP current (going or waitlist) so that others have the opportunity to attend. Many of our gatherings are not large so signing up and not showing is something we'd rather not see and will remove the member from the group if a "no show". Everyone has ample time to update their RSVP or at a minimum, contact any host or even message on the event page. If it was something really unforeseeable, please let us know after the event and we'll update the membership. I think it's great there are so many who enjoy the vineyards and we just want to ensure others on the waitlist have ample time to plan and join as well. If there are no limits on an event, being a no-show doesn't matter... it's the ones we put together with the vineyards that have limits that do. Thanks. Policy 11/10/2022 When an event has been scheduled and a payment made, any no-shows/late cancellation will be removed. A late cancellation is defined as one within hours of the event the day of.  You can notify your host in advance if you are having an issue but the best policy is to make sure your RSVP is current and you cancel with enough notice so another might join. For the other events, the second no-show/late cancellation for unpaid events will be removed.

[Arlington Food Assistance Center Group Volunteer of the Year](https://www.facebook.com/share/p/YKeM5rHUtbHG4ec3/) Our 50+ group is all about being active, physically and socially.  The organizers work hard to provide a diverse array of activities and events that appeal to our members.  Our active events regularly include hiking, biking, and water sports (kayaking, canoeing, rafting), and trying new sports like pickleball, axe-throwing, and archery.   Most of our activities conclude with an optional visit to a winery, brewery, restaurant, or outdoor picnic area so we can relax, unwind, and get to know each other better.  Similarly, we host Happy Hours and restaurant outings to spend time with old friends and meet new ones.  Our cultural events may include museums, embassy visits, concerts, and theater, or perhaps catching a ballgame at Nats Park. We strongly believe in giving back to our community and helping those less fortunate than ourselves, so we regularly volunteer at area food banks.  **In June 2024, 50+ was awarded Group Volunteer of the Year by the Arlington Food Assistance Center.** Our broad spectrum of offerings, with a primary focus on being physically active, is what sets us apart from many other Meetup groups.
