AACTMAD is the Ann Arbor Community for Traditional Music and Dance, a nonprofit participatory membership organization that enriches people's lives and sense of community through traditional music, dance, song, and related arts. We organize and sponsor over 100 traditional music and dance events each year that welcome the public. Our members actively learn and preserve many different types of traditional music and dance. With over 200 members, mostly in SE Michigan, we also support the traditional music and dance community as a whole, throughout Michigan.

Friends Outdoors is just that, friends who get together on a regular basis to have a great time together outdoors. Friends Outdoors are people who know each other or are connected with someone in the group who like to do outdoor activities, such as hiking, kayaking, Standup Paddleboarding, bonfires, and possibly camping and other adventures, group choice. Group members know each other, or are referred by someone already a member, which is a safer way to participate in a hiking group, rather than hiking with strangers. Members should be physically fit enough to hike 3-6 miles at about 3.3-3.6 mph. We will start out slow and work up to longer faster hikes based on the member's ability and wants. This is a group for all soccer enthusiasts who like to play outdoors around the Plymouth area (Canton, Northville, Livonia.. etc.).  The players are at different level ..some who have not played in a while, to ones playing in rec. leagues .. from teens to over 40. We enjoy a fun game and a good outdoor workout. No rough tackles or aggressive/physical plays... we all need to go to work/school the next day :)  We usually have players from Brazil, Canada, Columbia, China, Korea, India, Ivory Cost, Mexico, Nigeria, Thailand, Jamaica, UK, US,.. **Ann Arbor Sketchers** is a Meetup group based out of Ann Arbor for members who would like to sketch outdoors (and inside, in inclement weather) in the nearby company of other sketchers. The intention of this group is to encourage ourselves to spend more time outdoors, in picturesque settings, engaged in the quiet, shared activity of drawing. Come Winter season, we can continue inside, sketching at local museums, the Botanical Garden conservatory, and other settings. After each session, if members would like, we can meet up at a coffee shop and socialize, including sharing with each other what we drew (if a member so chooses). There are no artistic skills necessary to become a member of **Ann Arbor Sketchers**, just a willingness to forgo socializing as the central activity until after the sketching session is over. Events will be held outdoors (with seasonal considerations taken into account), exploring different sites in and around Ann Arbor. Note, this Meetup group does not consider creating art a competitive sport, rather we aim to promote drawing as an expressive outlet we can all participate in that can both enriching and fun. If you are a woman with no children, stepchildren or grandchildren this group is for you. My goal is to create a friendship network that allows us to build our family in a non-traditional way. I tend to like to do activities such as hiking, crafting, gardening, cooking etc. but could also schedule the occasional food or coffee meet if people are interested in that route. Howdy couples! Us & You: We started this in-person group to make new friends and help couples in similar situations do so. We are a mid-late thirties couple on the introverted side, with no kids(nothing against them!), who moved to this college town during the pandemic. While some in their early 20's might find us boring, and some seniors might find us unbearably hip(said no one to us ever), we don't have any age cut-offs for membership. Events will be kid-free, but we don't care how many kids you do or don't have. We welcome couples (or thruples) of any gender identity, etc, who -also- welcome said diversity. We also welcome we-have-thirteen-cats or we-have-matching-Falcor-tattoos levels of eccentricity, but would prefer to avoid Tupac's-not-dead or I-was-probed-by-aliens levels. No offense, Jeff. Our intention with a couples group is to have a more relaxed environment without the sometimes-awkward looking-for-love energy of other groups and normal environments. We have nothing against those who enjoy swinging or the like; but we personally do not, and that is NOT the point of this group. Events: We hope to host a variety of small-scale(6-12 people) indoor and outdoor activities, ranging from couch-potato to moderate activity levels, all in-person, and mostly around downtown Ann Arbor. These could include or combine: going out for coffee/food/cocktails, local events or live music, local attractions like the botanical gardens or museums, nature walks or picnics, standup paddleboarding and kayaking, or small party-game and cocktail nights. We've lived in Ann Arbor since June 2021; but, due partly to the remote and travel elements of our work, we've done a piss-poor job at figuring out what making friends in a new town looks like in your thirties. We have both separately hosted meetups in the past, and now as a couple since 2016(you guessed it: we met through Meetup), we are back here hosting together. Whether dining out or enjoying a homemade pizza night, we eat gluten-free due to her Celiac. We love our two cats (Simon and Kaylee), domestic and international travel(points and miles!), quality cocktails(growing bar at home, or out), and crappy one-liners or puns. We live on the edge of downtown, and enjoy walking from spot to spot, like just making a Saturday out of heading to a cafe, to farmers' market, to brunch, to distillery, etc. Outdoors, we enjoy hiking and stand-up paddle boarding. There's not a sport(other than bowling I guess?) that we really like to do together. We can manage frisbee with the light dollar store ones(mine from Ultimate hurts her hands). And folksy-rockish music is our overlap in the soundscape. Social sciences, plants, West Virginia, photography, drums, spreadsheets, moral philosophy, cooking, fantasy, less-biased news, yoga, TV/movies, we promise we'll have -something- to connect over. :)

This is a group for ladies of a certain age (50+) who have a young approach to life. Science proves that close, deep relationships are significantly correlated with happiness and health! Let's get together to do all those things that active, real gals do in the company of other like minded gals. The activities will range from coffee chats and dining, to seeing performances, galleries, festivals in the warm months, museums, movies, small get togethers, or maybe taking a cooking lesson? Although most activities are scheduled in Ann Arbor or within an easy drive from Ann Arbor, we will spice things up with occasional nearby side trips to explore. There will also be active events like walking groups, bicycling and kayaking. If you have a certain interest, chances are there are others who do, too! This is a participatory group so ideas for activities and event hosting comes from the members, too. The sky is the limit!

The point of this group is to make genuine FRIENDSHIPS and to get to know each other well. Most events will purposely be geared towards intimate sized groups so that attendees can talk and mingle. If you join, please realize that it is expected you will show up when you say you do.  Because these are small groups your presence is important.  Be prepared to make good friends while being a good friend.

A group for all of us atheists, agnostics, ex-religious and non-religious folks to meet each other in our own community. We organize ski trips, both downhill and cross country: usually three or four out West, a couple Up North, sometimes Canada and sometimes Europe. We have two annual bike trips, one based in Bay View, north of Petoskey, and another that follows the KalHaven trail along the Big Lake. There's an annual Gilligan's Island canoe extravaganza, golf, hiking, and volleyball. Our social agenda is both varied and very consistent, with an average of three activities per week. Music is a big focus, and dancing, along with Happy Hours, Movie Night, and monthly Euchre, just to name a few. There is always something to do and friends to do it with. Our meetings, held at Cobblestone Farm, offer free food, libations and music to members, and all of the above to nonmembers for five bucks! The Ann Arbor Ski Club has been around for 50+ years, and we currently average 300 members. We are primarily in our 40's, 50's and 60's, and many of us are single.   While most of us live in the Ann Arbor area, we also have members from an area stretching from Trenton to Lansing,  Brighton to Southfield, and even a few from Grand Rapids and Petoskey. We started this Meetup group as another way to let people know about us and what we do. Our existing membership may or may not join this meetup group; they already know the "what, where and who" about our trips and events and they will be there! We send out a weekly EBlast to members and nonmembers and our events are listed on our website as well. So, when you see an event with only one or two people attending, that's not accurate; we generally have anywhere from 15 to 25 folks at regular events, more at our dances. We are always looking to make new friends and welcome more members! It's one of our primary goals as a club. Dues for membership in the Ann Arbor Ski Club are $30/yr per person. Paid membership entitles a member to free admission to our monthly meetings with free food, drinks and music; to sign up for our discounted trips out west and up north; and to discounts from our sponsors.
