Welcome to the Hamtramck Hostel Meetup Group! Our group offers a variety of activities including movie nights, arts and entertainment events, and writing session. We believe in fostering a supportive community where all can have fun, explore their interests in movies, sci-fi series, good books, and arts. Join us for weekend fun, international friendships, mindfulness practice, games nights, ESL communication immersion, and support for international students. Friends Outdoors is just that, friends who get together on a regular basis to have a great time together outdoors. Friends Outdoors are people who know each other or are connected with someone in the group who like to do outdoor activities, such as hiking, kayaking, Standup Paddleboarding, bonfires, and possibly camping and other adventures, group choice. Group members know each other, or are referred by someone already a member, which is a safer way to participate in a hiking group, rather than hiking with strangers. Members should be physically fit enough to hike 3-6 miles at about 3.3-3.6 mph. We will start out slow and work up to longer faster hikes based on the member's ability and wants. Meet other local members to ride, paddle, explore trails, talk gear and trade tips. We are here for anything fun outdoors and indoors. Some of our popular events include cycling, kayaking and skating but we are not limited to those. For example, hiking if there are leaders and enough interested members. Also, our events aren't limited to the city of Detroit, most of our events are in Southeast Michigan and there may be a few farther away. All levels of cyclists are welcome. We primarily do recreational rides on paved roads or trails. There will be group rides on streets with traffic. There will be group rides on the rails to trails that anyone can ride. Many are geared to a relaxed pace of 10-15 mph, distance varies. We may also plan some other rides such as mountain, fitness, and road biking, etc. if there is interest. All levels of paddlers are welcome. Many of us have kayaks but SUPs and canoes are also welcome and you can rent many places if you don't own. We primarily will be doing recreational paddling on local rivers with not much current, suitable for beginners or intermediate level. Some locations may be more advanced. There will also be other activities posted from time to time such as skating, social events or other activities that fit within the group's topics. The goal is to gather, make new friends and share activities that get you outdoors and/or keep you active.
