New Group

Hikers n’ Hounds

Saint Charles, MO

Hikers n’ Hounds
Do you enjoy hiking with your friendly dog and want to hike with others? Come join the group! Originally started in Virginia this group has now moved to St.Charles and its surrounding areas. We hike on weather permitting weekends to all sorts of local parks! Due to the organizer's (me) work schedule hikes will only be scheduled on saturdays/sundays and holidays weather permitting. Each event will list a location, a precise meetup spot (i.e-parking lot by the pavillion etc etc), predicted weather and any other pertinent information. Hikes will almost always be more casual and less than 10 miles (often likely less than 5). \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- To note: -hike at your own risk. I have a standard wilderness first aid certification and will have basic medical supplies on hand. However outdoor activities can come with inherent risks as all activities do. I will always do my best to ensure participant safety but the only one who knows yourself and your health status is you. For all hikes/walks I recommend sturdy close toed shoes, sufficient water, and bug spray. -Leashed dogs only please! And I ask all participants to please respect the parks and pick up after your dogs. Leave only footprints and take only pictures. Lets keep our St. Louis parks beautiful. -Dogs will be in close proximity to one another on hikes and may come into contact. So please only bring along friendly dogs. -I do not pass participant info along as a general rule. If you want to get in contact with another group member it is your responsibility to do so as I will not facilitate contact between group members.

Walking Workout and Activity Meetup Group

Saint Louis, MO

Walking Workout and Activity Meetup Group
Join us for a walk on Tuesday and Saturday mornings! Check calendar for times and locations. To keep things interesting I will plan hikes in a number of parks in St Louis and St Charles. We will also do walks in various urban areas. I'll try and plan some of the events around other activities that are taking place in our area. After the walks, we usually meet at a restaurant nearby or have a picnic to socialize for a while. All hikers/walkers should be at least 18 years old. Due to some past experiences, dogs are not allowed. **OUR WALKS/HIKES ARE USUALLY BETWEEN 3 AND 4 MILES AND WHILE WE ARE NOT POWER WALKERS, WE USUALLY WALK AT A QUICK PACE. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO WALK 3 1/2 MILES IN ABOUT 80 TO 90 MINUTES.** If you have any ideas send me an email and let us know. What to bring: I have been leading walks since 2008 and so far, there have not been any medium or major accidents or medical emergencies. When I first started leading, I had a clipboard, and everyone had to write down their name and emergence information before the walk started and I would tear up the paper when the walk was over. After a while I stopped doing this. I know a lot of you don’t like to carry things on the walk, but I would like everyone to start carrying the following information: Name and address The name and phone number of your emergency contact person Insurance card You can put it in you pocket, or a fanny pack or a wrist pouch. This well help should we have a medical emergency on the walk. \- WATER – THIS IS IMPORTANT ALL YEAR LONG AND ESPECIALLY IN THE WARMER MONTHS\. WE WILL USUALLY BE OUT FOR AT LEAST 1 ½ HOURS AND THAT IS TOO LONG TO GO WITHOUT REPLENISHING THE LIQUIDS THAT YOU WILL BE BURNING WHILE WALKING\. – AVOID DRINKING CAFFEINATED BEVERAGES BEFORE WALKING\. THE ARE A LOT OF GOOD ARTICLES ABOUT “effects of caffeine and exercise” ON THE INTERNET OR ASK YOU DOCTOR\. \- Dress in layers \(not sure what the weather will do\)\. The top couple of layers should be easily unbuttoned or unzipped to allow easy ventilation\. Wear a hat\. \- I recommend broken in hiking shoes over Tennis shoes\. A lot of the trails are over loose gravel and dirt and the treads on the hiking boots work much better\. \- Snacks – EAT LIGHTLY BEFORE THE WALK AND BRING A POWER BAR OR SNACK TO MUNCH ON DURING THE WALK\. If the weather is bad, I'll try to cancel the event at least 2 hours before it starts. If you would like my cell phone number send me an email. Meetup Donation: Meetup charges me $89 every six months to have the Walking site. If you would like to donate $1 at some of the walks, it will be appreciated. Greg Kluempers

Sierra Club Eastern Missouri Group Outings and Activities

Saint Louis, MO

Sierra Club Eastern Missouri Group Outings and Activities

The Sierra Club is the largest and oldest environmental organization in the United States.  The Eastern Missouri Group both conducts outings to explore and enjoy the outdoors and we work to ensure a clean and healthy environment and a livable climate for all people.  This group is open to anyone who shares these interests and goals. Our outings include day hikes, camping, biking, canoe or kayak excursions, trail maintenance, and stream cleanups including Operation Clean Stream.  Our ICO (Inspiring Connection Outdoors) program gives underserved populations the opportunity to get out into nature, learn new skills, and have fun in a safe setting with experienced adult mentors.

We have monthly evening programs at our office in Maplewood which typically have a speaker on some environmental topic and gives members the chance to meet and interact with other Sierrans.  The topics range from snakes to stars, from wildlife to wildflowers.  There are also announcements of upcoming events, including the chance to squeeze lemons and sell lemonade at our fun lemonade fundraising events.

On our outings, we request a donation of $1.00 per person to help support our programs.  Firearms are not allowed on outings.  Pets are not allowed on outings unless announcement specifically states that the outing is pet friendly.  All Participants must sign a liability release.  Our Outing Leaders are trained volunteers with First Aid training.  Outings officially start at the trailhead or river access.  Carpooling is encouraged but not the responsibility of the Leader.  For more general information please contact Jim Rhodes at jarhodes@sbcglobal.net.  All are encouraged to check for recent outing additions on our EMG website,  http://www.sierraclub.org/missouri/eastern-missouri.

Let's Hike....

Ballwin, MO

Let's Hike....
* **Hiking, walking, kayaking, and other adventures. From beginner to more advanced, for fun or fitness, for the beauty of nature!** * **Event organizers typically provide their hiking pace. A general rule of thumb, for trails in our area:** **• Easy is 2 to 2.5 miles per hour.** **• Moderate is 2.5 to 3.0 miles per hour.** **• Brisk is 3.0 to 3.5 miles per hour.** **• Fast is 3.5+ miles per hour.** * **Our focus is not "singles," it is "hiking," so there may be single people and married people hiking together.** * **Our adventures are mainly in the St. Louis area, but sometimes further away.** * **Actively participating hikers (members) may set up activities if they choose. Please contact the organizer if interested.** * **To join this group please use an actual photo of yourself for your profile.** WELCOME to Let's Hike! We're glad you have joined our group. Remember that the people who run our events are volunteers. Please be courteous and respectful to your event hosts. Let's Hike tips for members: * Please read the event page before RSVP. The event hosts include hike descriptions, meeting location and information that helps events run smoothly. * Periodically check your RSVP'd events, keep RSVPs current and update to not attending as soon as possible if you cannot make an event, even if you are on the wait list. * Check events before leaving your house for changes or cancellations. * Do not alter another person's event. Posting comments on event pages to see if anyone wants to do "something else" or "suggest" that the organizers do what you want creates chaos and is disrespectful to the event host. If you want to host your own event, contact the group organizer. * We welcome active members to set up events, so if you are an active member interested in posting and hosting events, contact an organizer. * If you have any other questions feel free to contact the group organizers. * Dogs: It is the dog owner's responsibility to abide/obey laws. It is not the responsibility of any hike leader to enforce laws. If dogs being allowed is not posted in the hike description, ask by posting the question on the event page. We all enjoy the outdoors, members and volunteer organizers, and safety and accountability is always each individual's responsibility. Let's Hike as a group nor individual organizers can be held liable for injuries sustained during events. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our events enjoyable for our event hosts and members alike. **[Tom, Navigator,](https://www.meetup.com/letshikestl/members/3180353/profile/?returnPage=1) and [Deb, Fair Weather Hiker](https://www.meetup.com/letshikestl/members/14091993/profile/?returnPage=1), Co-Organizers** **[HIKE LEADER GUIDELINES](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1raMnCBU8B9rKfvmB-Y6k5dwLcM2NkTU3tvFgAo6tRAw/edit?usp=drive_link)**

"LIFE ... Your Great Adventure Starts NOW" ~Born: 11/17/2013

This group is formed on a foundation of building long term friendships gained during a variety activities and fun.

WHAT WE DO ....... Kickball, Karaokee, Hiking, Salsa/Tango dance (and free lessons); Memphis in May, Outdoor Concerts (New County and others); float trips; ziplining; wineries; Colorado back packing trip; MuckFest; a cattle drive from Utah to Arizona; and ski or snow boarding; ... we will DO THEM ALL and so much more!  Look at our calendar (Past and Future events ... look at the pics too!)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

We have a variety of interests that are found both indoors and outdoors.  Missouri has so many beautiful places to visit and wonderful events & activities.

Our membership is mainly between the ages of mid 20's to 50's.  We don't check or "card" ID's at the door, but you won't last if you don't want to engage in HIGH ENERGY activities and F.U.N.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

*** To join this group, you must have a close-up photo posted of your smiling face. OK, so the "smiling" is optional.  We want to be able to recognize YOU at Upcoming Events and to make sure you're NOT on the FBI's Most Wanted List.  ***

---------------------------------------------------------------------

***WARNING***: We will not tolerate any "creepers" or stalkers. This is NOT an internet dating group. Best Advice: Do not ask someone out the FIRST time you come to a MeetUp event. If people come to me saying you frighten them or made them feel unsafe, you will be given a warning or asked to leave the group immediately.

WIKIPEDIA:  Adventure Defined.

"An adventure is an exciting or unusual experience. It may also be a bold, usually risky undertaking, with an uncertain outcome."

"Adventures may be activities with some potential for physical danger such as skydiving, mountain climbing or participating in extreme sports."

---------------------------------------------------------------------

"Adventurous experiences create psychological arousal.  For some people, adventure becomes a major pursuit in and of itself. According to adventurer André Malraux, "If a man is not ready to risk his life, where is his dignity?""

"Adventurous activities can also lead to gains in knowledge, such as those undertaken by explorers and pioneers. Adventure education intentionally uses challenging experiences for learning."

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"It is only in adventure that some people succeed in knowing themselves - in finding themselves."
Andre Gide

"We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures that we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open."
Jawaharlal Nehru

---------------------------------------------------------------------

"To me, adventure has always been to me the connections and bounds you create with people when you're there. And you can have that anywhere."
Bear Grylls

"Life is either a great adventure or nothing at all."

Helen Keller
