Pocono's Outdoor Adventures

Bushkill, PA

Pocono's Outdoor Adventures
Welcome Adventurers! If you love hiking, swimming, kayaking, camping & backpacking and generally the outdoors all year round, then this is the group for you! My favorite type of hike is one where we explore and linger at a reasonable pace. I love mapping and creating new hikes. I live smack in the middle of all 3 borders of PA, NJ & NY and am acquainted with many of the parks in my surrounding vicinity! You will see a variety of parks that we will frequent. This is mostly a hiking group. We will post hiking events on a regular basis along with other events such as swiking (swim hikes), camping, kayaking & backpacking! ;) Just know that my usual MO is to explore. Things to know: * 1. **Hiking Difficulty Levels** \- Please know that you must be aware of your hiking level\. Most hikes will NOT \(or never\) be easy unless specified as "Easy"\. I am accustomed to posting information on the difficulty level of the hikes as well as the overall length of the hike\. * 2. **Group Etiquette:** Please note that for those who have a stringent time frame on a hike or who want to forage ahead and speed hike, you are welcome to leave the group but I am in no way responsible for you if you get lost. The group is under no obligation to keep up with extremely fast paced hikers. I have no problem cutting you loose and those who want to follow you, to travel at the pace that you please. * 3. **Disclaimer** \- As with all meetup events\, your participation is voluntary and you are under no obligation to participate or continue in any portion of any event\. You are responsible for your own well\-being\. By all means message me with any questions with anything that you feel may be pertinent. I am here all year round for you. PS - I also am an organizer of other groups but this is my main group that is primarily based near the Delaware Water Gap. This is where you will want to stay. With that being said, some of the events will be cross-posted onto my other groups so the number of attendees may be more than what you see. Please only RSVP once & ideally from this main group. Luv you guys! Thank you & hope to see you around! Ilene K.

Morris County Animal and Nature Council
MCANC is a resource for Morris County, NJ for residents & neighbors that organizes/networks to responsibly, sensibly, & compassionately protect animals and nature. We reach out to one another when we are in need of advice, resources, information and/or assistance when faced with any animal or nature concerns. Please join us now on facebook at [https://www.facebook.com/Morris-County-Animal-Nature-Council-298797938209/](https://www.facebook.com/Morris-County-Animal-Nature-Council-298797938209/)  We are still trying to save a local Rank 4 Endangered Species forest, continually working on spaying/neutering homeless cats (no kill) & adopting out the kittens, and sometimes post Sierra Club events here on the site. You are invited to join us. This is an OPTIMISTIC, yet realistic, effective and intelligent group that I founded a few years ago. We MUST always be diplomatic, conscientious, caring & professional with one another as well as the rest of the community. Although we cover several issues, if we are organized and willing to learn from and help each other, we can continue our incredible accomplishments. I now live in LA & I'm happy to see my group active again. While I do what I can when I can from out here for the group, I'd like to soon see an optimistic, caring and responsible new organizer who cares about BOTH protecting nature (aka animal habitats) AND preventing the harm of cats and dogs in shelters and on the streets (not killing them) come to step in and take over my place. Please keep in mind that I'm very, very busy & organize other groups as well... Thanks! Jackie : ) PS: If you want to post a related event, you may join & request to become an Assistant Organizer. Doing so gives you the technical ability to post it yourself. You can step down with a click of your mouse at any time.

The Col Henry Ryerson Civil War Roundtable

Newton, NJ

The Col Henry Ryerson Civil War Roundtable
**History and Activities of the Colonel Henry Ryerson Civil War Round Table – Newton, New Jersey** The concept of organizing a civil war round table in Sussex County started in September back in 2003 with a first meeting at the Sussex County Community College, spearheaded by then College president Brad Gottfried.  A Civil War Round Table is an independent organization that shares a common objective in promoting and expanding interest in the study of the military, political, and sociological history of the American Civil War.  There are hundreds of such organizations throughout the United States, with some in other countries as well.  Our organization became a recognized not-for-profit with the State of New Jersey and has a duly elected Board of Trustees and Officers.   At those first few meetings there was much discussion about a name for the group.  Many sided heavily for the General Judson Kilpatrick Civil War Round Table – the General having been born and raised in Wantage Township within Sussex County.  In the end it was decided that the group would be named after Colonel Henry Ryerson, a resident of Newton during the war who helped recruit, and then volunteered with, the 2nd NJ Volunteer Infantry regiment.  He was fatally injured at the Battle of the Wilderness in 1864 in Virginia, and is buried in the Old Newton Burial Grounds in Newton, New Jersey.   Each year since then the group has met in September, October, November, January, February, March, April, and May, first at the College, then at the Main Branch of the Sussex County Library, after that in the Town Hall room at Bristol Glen United Methodist Community off Route 206, and currently back at the Sussex County Community College in Newton.  Our accommodations at the College are superb with easy parking, a spacious room, and good audio/visual capabilities.  Our regular meetings start at 7:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of those months listed above (except for May when we meet at a local restaurant).   At each meeting we have a professor, author or artist, historian, reenactor, or other expert give a presentation that lasts approximately an hour.  Past local speakers have included Dr. Heidi Weber, County Historian Wayne McCabe, and author Dr. Peter Lubrecht.  Regionally and nationally known speakers have included Bill Styple, Joe Truglio, and David Martin.  One year we had actor / historian Patrick Falci give a memorable presentation as General A.P. Hill.   Each year in January we have our Annual Movie Night and have watched notable (and lesser known) movies that have included Buster Keaton’s silent classic *The General*, *The Red Badge of Courage* with Audie Murphy, and more recently we watched *The Hunley* with Armand Assante and Donald Sutherland and *The Raid* with Van Heflin and Anne Bancroft.   Twice a year the group organizes a Civil War Tour, most of which occur in Gettysburg and its environs, though we have met at Antietam, Monocacy, Arlington Cemetery, Fort Delaware between Delaware and New Jersey, and Harpers Ferry.  At the tours the Round Table picks up the cost of the Tour Guide.  We give special attention to our New Jersey monuments at Gettysburg and at times have been recognized for our maintenance around these monuments by the Gettysburg National Military Park.   One of the highlights of our year is the annual Dinner Meeting in May.  It has been held in various locations throughout the County including Sheridan’s, Lafayette House, The Lamp Post, and one notable year at The Sacred Heart Center in Newton.   The Round Table is a member of the League of NJ Historical Societies, and our members have participated in numerous local events such as the Sussex Historical Society’s Newton Burial Grounds Tour, Sussex County History Day, and the Sussex County Farm and Horse Show with a display booth.   Funds to run the organization and help defray costs are only collected from annual dues, a book raffle at each meeting, and donations.  The Board and Officers receive no renumeration for their time or efforts.  Though meetings can easily number 30 attendees, paid memberships average about 20.   Now in existence as a historical group in the County for almost twenty years, the Round Table has been a place for people who enjoy history, the Civil War, and the 19th Century to get together to discuss and enjoy that aspect of our nation’s history.  Our meetings are free and open to the public.  All who are interested are encouraged to attend!  For more information about the Round Table, please contact Jennifer during the day at 201-320-5989. ## Jennifer CS Brylinski Past President, Colonel Henry Ryerson Civil War Round Table January 30, 2023

Northern NJ Soaring Spirits Widows/Widowers group

Rockaway, NJ

Northern NJ Soaring Spirits Widows/Widowers group
New Jersey's LARGEST and most active widowed community. Our purpose is to provide "A Purpose" and something to look forward and hope for, as "Hope Matters". A reason to continue on through this tunnel called grief. We are a social group, we offer friendship, fun, and good conversations with folks that "get it". We do understand there is a time for mourning, there is a time to grieve. There also is a time to decide "what will the rest of my life look like? Rather than define what we are, the group defines itself by the care and compassion shown by its members to one another. We ask all members be respectful and kind to one another as we always want a "safe place". We are looking for those who are looking to live again. As your organizer I have been finding that each year brings new challenges. I have found that as my second family, this group provides the friendships that are among the most precious ones that I hold dear. Please join us as we walk together through our individual, yet similar journey's. Death and grief have no cure....... The loss of a loved one cannot be cured with pills, nor can a band aid and ointment make the pain go away, there are no sutures or stitches. The closest thing to what we all have suffered is to be an "amputee" as I have been told even though years pass and the limb is gone, the sensation of it still being there is so surreal...... I love you all my widowed family, Arnie Roeland Attending our group events for the purpose of soliciting members to other groups or to promote personal financial gain is not acceptable and will result in your being removed from this group.
