Urban and Outdoor Survival
Urban & Outdoor Survival www.urbanandoutdoorsurvival.com “If life could be extended even for one more day this would all be worth it” Urban and Outdoor Survival’s goal is to prepare for all disaster scenarios whether they are natural or man-made. What happens when there’s no app for the predicament you may find yourself in? Or there’s no one on the other end of the 9-11 phone call? Whether it’s a natural occurrence or a man-made one, with the right plan; chance will always favor the prepared mind. Do you have concerns? The concerns about our ever changing world and the concerns in our individual worlds around us as the planet seems to spin faster each year. We are seeking individuals who are interested in planning and sharing ideas, training and learning together how to help each other in the event we are presented with these very challenges. Here we will learn to prepare for these types of instances, teaching each other and learning from each other and growing as a well-rounded team. Urban & Outdoor Survival will offer in house workshops in the form of classes with hands on demonstrations and lectures in home preparedness; training events in the field, ranging from beginner level to the advanced level, bush craft skills as well as the running of emergency scenarios and drills from time to time to test our skills. We will also hold easy going camping trips to get to know each other as this builds camaraderie, the prefect ingredient for such a group. We are looking for likeminded individuals who are committed to the process of learning which means coming out to meetings and events. Yes it’s important that you show the group you are committed to learning but it’s much more important you prove this to yourself, in a time of need you are really going to be your greatest challenge, let us help you prepare and sharpen your skills for whatever may come at you. This is and will always be our goal; however there is fun to be had along the way and during the process as long as we are all honest to ourselves and to each other as to why we are here. \ This group has no religious or political affiliations all are welcome to join as long as you understand the rules and why you are here. Feel free to add your thoughts the process as we believe we all can learn from each other. \ Very important note please read carefully, misrepresenting yourself, misleading information on membership forms, conspiracy theories, fear-mongering, racist beliefs and/or statements will result in termination of membership. There is a Vetting process to determine if you will be granted membership, as our aim is to provide a safe environment for our members. It is also mandatory that you sign the group waiver before being allowed to attend field events.

If you RSVP "YES" to an event and don't show we most likely will just edit your RSVP to didn't go if there are no members on the waitlist. If, however, there are members on the waitlist and you are a "NO SHOW" you will be noted as such. Members that accumulate "NO SHOWS" may not have the same chances of getting off a waitlist as members who are in good standing. Members on the list as "GOING" who have "NO SHOWS" may also be moved to the waitlist at the discretion of the event host to make room for members in good standing. We realize that some folks may sign up to multiple meetups on the same date to try to secure a spot with their friends. If this is the case, please reach out to the event host and we will try to accommodate your friends if/when possible. We once again ask that you please make a final decision within 48 hours unless otherwise noted. **LEAVE NO TRACE** \- When attending our events we ask that you follow these 3 simple rules: \- Please Leave Nothing but Footprints \- Take Nothing but Pictures \- And Waste Nothing but Time Members who don't show a respect for our venues may be asked to leave the group. We are a growing national movement working to empowering all women on and off the trail! Come out and meet us!

The Seeker's Journey

Sloatsburg, NY

The Seeker's Journey
Welcome fellow seekers! This Meetup group is devoted to alternative healing modalities such as somatic energy healing, plant/sound medicine, and consciousness expansion. If you’re interested in exploring various spiritual paths, metaphysics, personal growth, and holistic wellness, this is a group for you. Whether you are interested in healing practices, plant medicines, astrology, or simply seeking a deeper connection to yourself and others, this group provides a supportive space to learn, share, and grow together. * During this journey you may encounter obstacles. These difficulties are yours and only yours. We will be alongside you, however we will not walk for you. These obstacles will appear in different shapes, colors and forms…be ready. Our instinctive reaction is to have a Fight, Flight or Freeze response. It is nothing to be ashamed of. We first want to acknowledge those fears so we can feel safe. Under a shamanic perspective, these fears and pain are the indicator that something valuable is there, going through the threshold. Lean in and have a dialogue with it. What is the essence of that pain? *Where is it in your body?* * This medicine circle is going to bring you to the journey within yourself. Translate this to your day to day life: What is killing you in your life? What is a Death that you carry on your shoulders, in your heart or mind? Is it a behavior, a belief, a relationship, illness, a need, a want, a habit, or a lack? * We do not want to Die, we are afraid of Death. With this medicine you can sometimes feel like you're dying when you are still alive. Take responsibility and let yourself die along with those things that do not serve you anymore. Acceptance and surrender to become a fearless warrior, you bring the fight within. You will confront the worst enemy of all...Yourself. Lean in, decide not to be a container of a past life anymore. Bring yourself to the Present. It is a Universal law, we constantly die and are reborn in this Life. Give yourself the opportunity to heal the death within yourself, make it an ally, embrace it, breathe life back into it. There is Death in Life and also Life in Death. It's part of your life. Appreciate every breath and moment. Being grateful takes courage. I. Focus on starting to know yourself with everything that the journey entails. II. Feeling apprehensive/uncomfortable is natural. Learn from it. III. Take care of yourself at all times. IV. Communicate proactively. V. There is no such thing as a risk-free environment. VI. The aim of the medicine circle is to be a constructive container for healing and growth. VII. We can work collaboratively to identify solutions and give our best support respecting your own process. VIII. All participants have a voice and the right to express themselves respectfully without judgement. IX. Everyone will be respectful and courteous to all people in the medicine circle at all times. **X. All participants can approach either of the facilitators at any time for a 1:1 conversation. Be respectful with their personal time.** XI. Participation in the sharing circle or other activities are not mandatory. However, we highly recommend it. We periodically host community healing circles in a safe container, usually in nature. Join us and explore our inner realms and develop more conscious living. Connect with like-minded seekers on a journey of self-discovery and transformation.

Note that this hike is part of a larger group, the NJR ADK. North Jersey Ramapo Chapter hikes are rated for pace (A, B or C), mileage, and terrain (A, B or C), with "C" designating easier hikes and "A" more challenging ones. We recommend that new hikers should first try a "C" or short "B" hike before undertaking a more difficult one; otherwise, you may not fully enjoy the hiking experience. If you have any doubts, please contact the hike leader in advance.   ***Pace Ratings:***     A = Fast - 2.5 mph or faster    B = Moderate - about 2 mph    C = Easy - 1.5 mph or less    ***Distance:*** Noted in miles   ***Terrain Ratings:***     A = Strenuous, long/steep climbs and descents, possible rock scrambling    B = Moderate climbs and descents    C = Generally flat with little elevation change  For example, a hike rated “B-7-A” is a moderately paced hike of approximately 7 miles with steep climbs and/or descents and possible rock scrambling.  If you join us for a hike, please understand that you are responsible for your own preparedness, including ensuring that the hike is appropriate for your level of fitness, that you wear the proper clothing (moisture wicking, extra layers, no jeans/sneakers) and bring the proper gear (see the ADK's recommended **[Hiking Essentials](http://www.adk.org/page.php?pname=hiking-essentials)**), food and at least two liters of water.  Leaders have the right, responsibility and sole discretion to refuse any hiker he/she deems to be not properly attired, prepared, or otherwise fit to safely complete the hike.  If you have any questions about our hikes or other North Jersey Ramapo chapter activities, please send us an e-mail at **[info@adknjr.org](mailto:info@adknjr.org)** or post on our message board. **HIKERS' GUIDELINES:** ***Risks:*** As with all physical activities, hiking involves hazards. Dress in thin layers so that you can adjust the number of layers as required to maintain comfort. In winter carry a wool cap and wool or polypropylene gloves or mitts and a windproof shell. Be prepared for rain. Bring a rain jacket and rain pants, preferably of the type that permits venting body moisture. Wear comfortable, sturdy boots. Do not wear cotton garments in winter.     ***Drink and Food:*** Adequate hydration is important year round. Drink frequently during the hike. Carry food to enjoy during the midday lunch stop.     ***Other responsibilities:*** Hikers with children under 16 and new hikers are required to contact the hike leader in advance to determine if the hike is suitable for them. Minors under 16 are welcome on day hikes when accompanied by a parent or guardian. No person under 18 shall participate in overnight outings unless accompanied by a parent or adult sponsor over 21. The hike leader may refuse to allow a person to hike who is judged to be poorly equipped or unable to do the published hike. Participants should get to the hike at least 10 minutes prior to the starting time. Smoking and drinking of alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited.     ***Maps:***  The TC number indicates a NY-NJ Trail Conference map for the area of the hike. For example: TC-118 refers to the Southern Harriman Park map.     ***Abbreviations:***  NCA-No Calls After . . . , Pref.- Leader’s contact preference.     ***Dog-Friendly Hikes:*** Pets are not permitted on hikes unless the hike description clearly states that it is "dog friendly." If it is, all hikers with dogs must abide by park leash regulations. **NO SHOW/LATE CANCELLATION POLICY:** Please be considerate of event hosts/organizers and others who may want to attend an event by not being a "NO SHOW" (failing to show up when you've RSVP'd "yes") or a "LATE CANCEL" (changing RSVP to a "no" within 24 hours of an event). If you have a history of No Shows and/or Late Cancels, we may have to bump you to the waiting list for meetups with limited space, in favor of those with a positive attendance history.
