Orange County Outdoor Singles
Are you tired of doing things alone? Do you love doing things outdoors? Hiking, walking, dining, all sorts of things!! Are you age 50 plus? We are a four-season group focusing on outdoor events in a relaxed setting, a group that is welcoming and warm. Many wonderful friendships have grown over time among our members. Many of our activities are focusing on dining and hiking right now, but there are other things to have fun with. I am limiting group sizes for many events these days. Sorry!!! For hikes I will need to know your recent hiking experience before moving you to the Yes list. If this doesn't work for you there are other groups taking more new people on events. Sorry, a result for me of Covid. Join with like-minded singles looking for fun and friendship. Our main focus is adults having fun together with no dating pressure. If you are looking for a dating site this is not it. I'm really looking forward to getting outdoors as much as possible, and have lots of cool outdoor things to do. We will also occasionally enjoy indoor activities (mainly during the winter), like bowling. This group is open to all single people, dating people (see note below), and happy dogs of such people. Activities are for adults only. This group is not for people in committed relationships or married people. If you meet someone in the group that is different. For those in dating relationships, one aspect of our group is to be a safe haven for people who are surrounded by a world that sometimes seems to be Couples Only, please don't bring a date. **IMPORTANT: New people: Your RSVP is very important to me. If you cannot make an event that you have signed up for, PLEASE change your RSVP. If you no-show I will remove you from the group. Sorry, if you sign up please show up. :-)** All events are at your own risk. Please read the Liability Waiver on the Pages tab. Please bring your sense of adventure to participate. Most events carry a $2 Meetup fee. Please send me your cell number, I'll return with mine. For friends with kayaks, check out my other group, Newburgh Area Kayakers. :-)

If, however, there are members on the waitlist and you are a "NO SHOW" you will be noted as such. Members that accumulate "NO SHOWS" may not have the same chances of getting off a waitlist as members who are in good standing. Members on the list as "GOING" who have "NO SHOWS" may also be moved to the waitlist at the discretion of the event host to make room for members in good standing. We realize that some folks may sign up to multiple meetups on the same date to try to secure a spot with their friends. If this is the case, please reach out to the event host and we will try to accommodate your friends if/when possible. We once again ask that you please make a final decision within 48 hours unless otherwise noted. **LEAVE NO TRACE** \- When attending our events we ask that you follow these 3 simple rules: \- Please Leave Nothing but Footprints \- Take Nothing but Pictures \- And Waste Nothing but Time Members who don't show a respect for our venues may be asked to leave the group. Revering God in Nature: Transcendentialist Outdoor Adventure

Poughkeepsie, NY

Revering God in Nature: Transcendentialist Outdoor Adventure
Following the teachings of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau (but also through the writings/example of John Burroughs, John Muir, Theodore Roosevelt and occasionally others), we are a group of nature-loving outdoor recreationalist theists who find spiritual renewal and growth by time spent in the wild. We believe that ecology, climate, seasonal weather, wildlife, and water and their interwoven systems and sciences reveal and promote reverence to the Creator. We believe that personal religious experience is possible through outdoor exposure since all things naturally lead us to God. “In the woods,” Emerson wrote in his magnum opus NATURE, “we return to reason and faith. There I feel that nothing can befall me in life – no disgrace, no calamity … which nature cannot repair.” He continued, “Standing on the bare ground — my head bathed by the blithe air, and uplifted into infinite space — all mean egoism vanishes. … The currents of the Universal Being circulate through me; I am part and particle of God.” We seek to implement the goals of Transcendentialism, the philosophical religion of Emerson and Thoreau that exalted nature, individualism, self-reliance, and a life devoted to intellectualism, solitude, thought, and leisure. As an interdenominational group, we consciously leave the formalism of religious dogma and doctrine to other other institutions. Our version of church is rather one of private spirituality and individual renewal infused by nature itself. "On every side there is something to soothe and refresh this sense," wrote Thoreau in A WEEK ON THE CONCORD AND MERRIMACK RIVERS, "Look up at the tree-tops and see how finely Nature finishes off her work there. See how the pines spire without end higher and higher, and make a graceful fringe to the earth. And who shall count the finer cobwebs that soar and float away from their utmost tops, and the myriad insects that dodge between them. Leaves are of more various forms than the alphabets of all languages put together: of the oaks alone there are hardly two alike, and each expresses its own character." “I opened my eyes and let what would pass through them into my soul,” Emerson wrote in his 1834 journal, “The pines glittered with their innumerable green needles in the light and seemed to challenge me to read their riddle. The drab oak leaves of the last year turned their little somersaults and lay still again. And the wind bustled high overhead in the forest top.” Reason, he says, can penetrate the inner workings of nature to reveal core truths about the self and the world. When we see an inner principle with clarity and focus, Emerson says we experience “a casting moment.” As a group we will assemble and gather to partake in outdoor adventure "casting moments" -- largely kayaking or hiking -- to fill our senses with nature and let it speak to us. Some outings will include readings, presentations, or discussions on the works of Transcendentalist authors, but largely most of our activities will leave the insights and religious experience entirely to the individual to absorb privately from nature itself. “The morning wind forever blows,” Thoreau wrote, “the poem of creation is uninterrupted; but few are the ears that hear it.”

Hudson Valley Forest Therapy / Forest Bathing / Hiking

Cold Spring, NY

Hudson Valley Forest Therapy / Forest Bathing / Hiking

This is a group for anyone who wants to spend some time away from the many distractions and stresses in life. It is a time to turn off the phones and enjoy the present moment in the woods with no objective other than to allow ourselves that moment of self-care. Hikes will vary from easy to intense to allow all levels of experience and health. Short wanderings, day hikes, or over-night/weekend retreats available and lead by a trained life coach. Inexperienced hikers most welcome!

Forest Bathing or Forest Therapy is not a traditional therapy session.  The forest is the therapist and we are all present to allow ourselves a moment of self-care, free from the distractions and stress of our daily modern lives. I'll be sharing more on this soon!

This is intended to be a safe and judgement free zone.  There is no specific "type" of person for this group other than someone who feels the need to get outdoors.  Professionals, stay at home parents, New Age types, non New Age types.. pretty much anyone who is respectful is welcome!

Private sessions are available and I invite you to help build a supportive community of others seeking peace of mind.
