Active and Social in the Southern Adirondacks

Glens Falls, NY

Active and Social in the Southern Adirondacks
This is a social support network for people who want to make friends and share fun activities. WHY: Building social ties and staying active are the keys to happiness, at any age! Our big picture goal is to build and maintain a healthy and friendly community. WHO: Open to anyone. WHERE: Most of our events are in the greater Glens Falls, NY area. Basically Warren, Washington, and Saratoga Counties; with a few trips to Lake George and deeper into the Adirondacks of course! WHAT: We organize a variety of events, from bike rides and hikes to hockey and trivia nights. Basically we are open to anything you can convince an organizer to do, but trying to lean towards the "active and social". PRIVACY: 1\. Privacy and safety are critical to creating a fun and safe atmosphere at our events\. It can seem a little counter\-intuitive\, but a critical part of that is actually knowing who you are talking to\. Hopefully this helps explain \#2 and \#3 below\. 2\. Please use a recognizable head\-shot\, and your real first name and first letter of your last name\, in your profile\. For example: John A\. \(Exceptions can be made for privacy if you have a very uncommon or recognizable first name\, or if you have a specific stalking concern\. Contact an organizer\.\)
3\. If your profile has been inactive for more than six months\, you will be removed from the group\. This is to protect your privacy\, and the privacy of the remaining active members\. You are welcome to rejoin the group at any time\. 4\. This is a "private" group on Meetup; meaning that Meetup users who are not in the group cannot see the group membership list\, or who is attending what events\. That's all it means\, and it's very minimal protection\. It doesn't prevent bad actors from joining the group\. Please use common sense safety rules when interacting with Meetup strangers\, both online and in person\. BEHAVIOR: 1\. No\-showing to events takes up a spot someone else could have used\. It's not cool\. Life happens to everybody\, but please give everyone the courtesy of changing your RSVP\. 2\. We will not tolerate any form of stalking\, harassing\, demeaning\, or just douchy behavior\, either on line\, via message\, or in person\. You will be removed and blocked from the group\. 3\. This is not a dating group\!  This is a social support group\.  There's a huge difference\. People are comfortable coming to our events because they trust that it won't be a meat market\.  The other organizers and I are very serious about this\, and please understand that we will remove people from the group if they are making others feel uncomfortable\. 4\. All of that is not to say you can't ask people out within in the group\, but you need to build up some trust first\.  \(As a rule of thumb\, I recommend you should try to have at least three real conversations\, at three separate events\, with someone before messaging them or asking for their number\.\) Also show some taste and restraint: if you're just machine gun asking people out\, it's not a good look for you\.

Capital Region Remote Working Professionals

Saratoga Springs, NY

Capital Region Remote Working Professionals
This group is focused on people who work from home, but want to socialize IN PERSON. This can include remote workers whose colleagues are in other parts of the country, self-employed individuals, freelancers, and any other working professionals who work out of a home office. If you were remote for COVID, but have returned to the office full time or hybrid, you're still welcome. I don’t know about any of you, but I miss the days when I could go out with my coworkers after work to have a drink, celebrate an accomplishment, blow off some steam, or just have some fun together. Work is one of the ways as adults that we get to co-mingle with others and make new friends. It provides two of the three factors needed for making new friends: proximity and unplanned interaction. When you work from home, you lose a lot of that opportunity for work friendships. It might be nice to connect with others who can relate. We may not all work together, but we all share the blessings and socially isolating challenges that come with working from home. So close that laptop and come out to connect, socialize, and/or network. We’ll do after work happy hours, holiday celebrations, and other activities depending on interests. Please feel free to recommend events. This an active group all year round, with events throughout the region, from Albany to Glens Falls. My goal is to gather 2-4 times per month. In order to be accepted into this group your profile must include your name and a picture of you. This will help us find you at events and make a better connection in general. Looking forward to seeing you at an upcoming event!

20s & 30s Adventure Photography

Ballston Lake, NY

20s & 30s Adventure Photography
Hey folks! Do you like getting out hiking, but wish you could spend more time taking pictures? Well then we have the group for you! Join us as we photograph mountains, caves, forests, lakes, cliffs and everything outdoors! If you would like to learn more about photography, spend some time in adventurous locales, want to meet cool people, and love fun, we hope you'll come on out and capture some good times! Don’t have a fancy camera? That’s OK! We welcome everyone from the pro-photographer to the smartphone enthusiast. As our name implies, some of our activities may involve difficult, strenuous or unusual conditions. We try to post adventures that encompass a range of skill levels. We ask that you join us on activities that are within your ability and comfort level. Drone policy: Yup - drones are fun! However, they can have a disruptive impact in natural settings and could pose a safety risk for the group. Therefore, drones are not allowed unless the event explicitly says otherwise. We are considering posting drone specific events in the future. We welcome you to join our group with the understanding that adventure photography includes activities that are dangerous and can result in equipment damage, injury or death. By joining our group and participating in our events, you agree to hold the organizers, event hosts, and members harmless from any loss, damage, or liability that may occur before, during or anytime after an event. We cannot guarantee the accuracy of information provided in event descriptions and it is your responsibility to do your own research to determine if an event is appropriate for your skill level. Bottom line: you are responsible for your own health, safety and equipment

20s & 30s Hiking and Paddling

Ballston Spa, NY

20s & 30s Hiking and Paddling
Formerly "Lazy Ass Sports!" we've decided to change our name. It was a good name, but it no longer reflected what we were doing since we've been getting in shape from all the hiking we do. We've wanted to do more challenging hikes, and the title has been misleading for those who show up thinking that this will be an easier hike since the name was "Lazy Ass Sports." We also don't do a lot of other sports besides hiking, but I'm always open to it.  Before you sign on to an event, please read the description. If you don't think you can handle the hike, there's no shame in waiting for one that you feel comfortable doing. It's better for all if you are safe. :) We're working on a rating system to make it easier for you to identify the difficulty of a hike.  We welcome you to join our group with the understanding that fitness and sports activities are dangerous, and can result in injury or death. By joining our group and participating in our events, you agree to hold the organizers, event hosts, and members harmless from any loss, damage, or liability that may occur during the event or in transit to/from the event. Safety first, ya know. Policy update (10/3/17): Lately we have had an issue with people RSVPing for a meetup and dropping at the last minute or being a no-show without changing their RSVP. This prevents people who may want to go from being able to because there aren't enough spots. It also makes us wait for people and prevents us from starting the adventure at the time we planned to. In order to prevent this, we will only wait 10 minutes beyond our meetup time for arrivals. If you no-show or drop at the last minute twice, you're being removed from the group. Please keep this in mind for the future. Thanks!

Networking Organizer for

ASL of the Capital Region

From the Founder: "I have decided to start this group because I love ASL. I have taken a couple courses, but sadly don't remember much. I would like to start getting involved with people who use the language on a regular basis. I would love to eventually become a certified interperter. This group is intended for people of all levels and abilities. I am hoping it would be a learning experience for all."

Capital District Paddlers and Adventurers

Glens Falls, NY

Capital District Paddlers and Adventurers
Welcome to Capital District Kayakers!   Please read this entire page which includes dues requirements and our waiver. Each participant on a Capital District Kayakers paddle must have a seaworthy boat, a whistle, a white light (for night paddles), all other equipment required by law and a Coast Guard approved PFD. Dues: $10 annually. They can be given to Stephanie Swald at any paddle within three months of joining. You can PayPal them to ron.swald@gmail.com, Zelle - 518.330.3944 or mail them to Stephanie Swald, PO Box 2405, Glens Falls, NY 12801. This group is for paddlers of all experience levels, from beginners to diehards. Most trips are for just a few hours but others could be day trips or even overnight...camping and/or hotels.  If you are a beginner, we recommend some local LLBEAN classes, or ask us directly about more specialized or one on one courses with a few or our expert members. Don't be afraid to ask for help in learning and/or buying a boat to suit your needs. Post those and miscellaneous questions in our discussion area. We will strive to follow NYS boating laws and regulations as best we can. While we all look out for each other, we expect each person to accept responsibility for their own safety by realizing their limits in their boat. Make sure to ask questions if you are uncertain about what is expected for each event. Each event will have rules that are posted by the Event Host and each member attending must abide by those rules. Remember that the Event Host is inviting you to join them. Be respectful and be ready to launch at the scheduled time. Waiting for latecomers disrespects those who are prepared and ready to go at the scheduled time. If you cannot make it to an event, please remove your rsvp so people are not expecting you, or worse yet, you prevent someone else from attending. Repeated no shows may be removed from the group. Have basic safety items besides your PFD like a rope, whistle, dry bag with extra clothes, bilge pump, food, water and lights for night paddles. This group is focused on providing peaceful and fun events that could take you to places you have never been before...or maybe you will take us to one of those places. Let us know your ideas! We also partake in paddles that have cultural, historical and knowledgeable aspects. While having fun, it is extra rewarding to give back to the community and the environment! Even though this is a kayak based group, our event planners may post other adventures such as hiking, camping or other group activities. Jump in, have fun, make some new friends and we will see you out on the water. ACCIDENT WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY Participation in any Capital District Kayakers event implies that you have read, understand, and agree with our ACCIDENT WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY. Per the Electronic Records and Signatures in Commerce Act, Public Law 106-229 by joining this group, you agree to all the terms listed. Each participant on a Capital District Kayakers paddle **must have a seaworthy boat, a whistle, a white light** (for night paddles), all other equipment required by law and a **Coast Guard approved PFD**. I certify that I am physically fit and prepared for participation in an event and have not been advised otherwise by a qualified medical professional. Kayaking can be physically and mentally demanding. Kayaking can involve significant risks and hazards, such as collision with power boats, hypothermia, joint or trauma injuries and even drowning. I acknowledge awareness of the risks, foreseen and unforeseen, which are inherent in each event/activity. These inherent risks include, but are not limited to, serious personal injury, property damage, and death from participation in or travel to and from the event. I acknowledge and accept responsibility for insuring that any guests that I bring to a Capital District Kayakers event/activity have read and understand our ACCIDENT WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY. Capital District Kayakers and its organizers do not, in any way, claim to be professionals or otherwise licensed, certified, trained, etc. to provide any service including emergency medical procedures. Since most Capital District Kayakers activities occur on the water, by participating in a Capital District Kayakers event/activity you are acknowledging that you are aware and understand that in the event of a serious medical emergency, treatment may be multiple hours away. I consent to receive medical treatment which may be deemed advisable in the event of injury, accident and /or illness during events. I have read, understand, and agree to abide by the rules of the event/activity as published on the Capital District Kayakers website. I also understand that at an event/activity I may be photographed. By participating in a Capital District Kayakers event/activity, I Agree to WAIVE, DISCHARGE CLAIMS, AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY (Meet up.com, the Capital District Kayakers Meet-up Group, its organizers, co-organizers, assistant organizers, trip leaders and event planners, as well as their families from any and all liability on account of, or in any way resulting from injuries, personal or property, losses, costs, damages, disability or death resulting from participating in or travelling to or from the activity. Schenectady, NY

Capital District Edutainment for the Curious

We wish to join with others curious about the diverse and complex realities of our world and ourselves to freely enjoy edutaining (educational and entertaining) presentations and to actively participate in joyous discussion. Members are welcomed to  recommend topics for meetings and specific videos to be watched with preference given to newer members.

We also schedule participation in public events followed by discussion over dinner, for example the monthly "Science on Tap" events . Again, members are welcomed to recommend events and post event discussion venues.

TEDx Schenectady has been organized and supported by members of this meetup and we hope you will consider becoming part of this tradition. Also those of you more community oriented might consider invigorating the Center for Empowering Communities in Schenectady, NY formed by some of our members.(https://www.facebook.com/CenterforEmpoweringCommunities).

Niskayuna Moms' Group Meetup
The Niskayuna Moms’ Group strives to connect moms, build community, and have fun. The membership includes a mix of new & veteran moms, full-time stay-at-home moms, and part-time & full-time working moms. Some of the moms grew up in the area, whereas some have just moved here recently. The majority of members’ kids are 0-5 years old, though siblings are welcome at events. For safety purposes, we must here note our "Authorization & Release of Liability", which you must agree to should you become a member of our group. It is as follows: "I understand that the Niskayuna Moms’ Group is a volunteer-run, nonprofit group for children and their caregivers, and my participation in this group is completely voluntary.
