Mid Hudson Riders

Hopewell Junction, NY

Mid Hudson Riders
Hello and Welcome. Mid Hudson RidersĀ started over 24 years ago, as I would go out riding and meet fellow motorcyclists along the way. In time we became a local riding group. Our group is for the motorcyclists who are looking to ride in a group, make a few friends along the way, and enjoy sharing, and exploring, the roads in and beyond the Mid-Hudson Valley. We ride in a laid-back, enjoying the road kinda way. Everyone is invited to join our group, any brand of bike, just be ready to ride and have fun. How the group works: Any member can post a ride, Most of the time I post a ride, we meet, and we go riding. Although all members can post rides, most members are happy just to follow me, and then post/ lead a ride. This is fine with me but I do welcome ideas for rides, roads we would enjoy, places to ride to, etc. And it is always nice to follow and let someone else lead once in a while. This group is run like a few riding buddies, following some standard group riding rules, and state laws, and just riding and enjoying the road. Who should join? Anyone who enjoys group motorcycle riding, in and around the Mid Hudson Valley. And enjoys doing the following: ā€¢Ā Riding within the speed limit- enjoying the ride ā€¢Ā Scenic rural roads (backroads, some main roads, and yes, some Highway- to save time) ā€¢Ā Ride on weekends, and sometimes on weekdays ā€¢Ā Most Rides start around 10 AM and end around 3 PM, from 50 to 150 miles.Ā  ā€¢Ā Fairweather riding (<10% chance of rain, low winds, high of 55-85 degrees) ā€¢Ā Always ride safely and responsibly ā€¢Ā You understand and use Hand Signals (see photo of the Hand Signals we use) ā€¢ You understand that the LEAD RIDER or Event Host is in charge and you will follow the group rules. ā€¢ Most Rides/events are planned out with a map, road route, and leader, and may be limited in size/rider skill level. ā€¢ Some rides maybe just meet and see where the road takes us. Events may not have a ride at all. ā€¢ Almost all rides have rest-gas stops, but you should show up for all rides with a full tank, drinks/snacks if you want and your bike in working order. If you share those same preferences, then read on... Requirements:Ā  ā€¢Ā You plan to ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE. RIDE YOUR BIKE. We only want members who ride. Active is meeting with the group Once in 8 weeks. Starting 5/1/2024. If you can not come out and play once in 8 weeks you will be removed from our membership. \* If you have a high (riding) skill level, (many believe they do) group riding is not the place to show off. If we are out riding in a way that is below your skill level we expect you will still enjoy the ride and friendship of riders below your skill level. Please remember: GROUP Riding is not for everyone, you just may be too skilled to ride with us, or your way of riding may not be the laid back enjoying the ride/road style of riding we do. \*Group Riding is fun but we want to be safe. Your skill level is important, ride at your skill level, group riding is not the place to practice or try something new. The group leader will try to keep the group moving/traveling at a pace at or below the (lowest) riders' skill level. Even so, please if you are not able to keep up or you find it may be too much for you, tell the lead rider ASAP. The lead rider can adjust the group. Sometimes Rides may be rated (when listed) for a higher skill level than your ability, do not take the rating the wrong way, it is for the safety of the group and you. Stay home and practice. On the other end, if you have a high skill level, group riding is not the place to show off. If we are out riding in a way that is below your skill level we expect you will still enjoy the ride and friendship of riders below your skill level. Remember we welcome everyone but not every ride may fit your skill level. This is why some rides are for (higher) skilled riders only.Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  ā€¢Ā Rides/Events, I will post and lead/host but every member is welcome to also lead/host and/or post rides/events. If you do not want to lead/host a ride/event but have a suggestion for one, that is fine too.Ā  RSVP, Please say "yes" or "no", it is the only way for us to know if you are coming or that the rides/events are not to the membership's liking. ā€¢Ā We ask everyone to "Chip In" $20 cash in person, due at your first ride/meeting with the group. Membership after you "Chip In" is good til 12/31/2023, there are no refunds. Returning Members (from last year) are asked to Chip In for this year. This helps in sharing the cost of having this group and keeping it going.Ā  ā€¢Ā GROUP SIZE - I will not lead a group of more than 10 motorcycles. Any larger and it gets too difficult to keep a group together. So if need be, we can start a 2nd group, with a 2nd lead rider that can follow behind the 1st group. ā€¢Ā DO NOT join this group for the purpose of soliciting business of any kind or trying to promote any financial benefit to anyone or any business or organization. This group is strictly for those who want to go riding. ā€¢Ā Before riding with this group, you must read, understand and agree to follow; MSFā€™s Guide to Group Riding, their web address is:https://[www.msf-usa.org/downloads/Group_Ride.pdf](http://www.msf-usa.org/downloads/Group_Ride.pdf) We use Hand Signals based on the MSF, before riding with us make sure you understand them, and when riding with us pass the Hand Signals along the group. See the above (MSFā€™s Guide to Group Riding) web page for more info on group riding and hand signals.Ā  The photos below are the Hand Signals we use along with info on how we ride. Please make sure you know these before riding with us. You can also upload the photos to your phone for refinancing. ![](https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/5/a/c/9/600_489323241.jpeg) ![](https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/5/a/c/a/600_489323242.jpeg) ā€¢Ā YOU RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK AND AGREE that the Host or person leading a ride/event has the right to remove you, and you will FOLLOW THE GROUP RULES, and state laws, and understand and use hand signals. What are the group Rules? Everything listed on this page, NY state laws, etc... By choosing to join this group, you accept and agree with all of the above. Also, by choosing to ride in the group, you assume full responsibility and liability for your choices and actions while riding. If you bring a guest, You understand and explain the above to that guest, that as the guest at an event/ride, you and the guest also agree to the above, by attending. \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- About me,Ā  I started riding long ago. So now that I am older, I enjoy riding in a more laid-back style, I am always looking to practice and hopefully improve my skills, techniques, and road strategies to help make me a better rider. I have a passion for riding, sharing the road and leading group rides, fixing, and modifying motorcycles, and being around people who love motorcycles and riding. I enjoy talking about all brands, types of motorcycles, how to ride, make repairs, and great roads to ride. I have more than one bike, so I may ride my Nomad 1500 (Kawasaki) or something else. I UseĀ Cardo Packtalk Bold for my Phone (BT) and to enjoy music. It also has Mesh Communication that we can link up to 15 riders. You do not have to have a Communication System to ride in the group (most do not) but if you do I can only hook up using the Cardo Mesh System. So if you want to "Mesh" fine if not that is fine too. With or without it we all use Hand Signals and pass them along to the group when riding together.Ā  The Mid Huson Riders is a riding group, not a Motorcycle Club, not even a Riding Club. I started this riding group in 2000, and almost every year I (we, the group) decide in November if we should go on to the next year. If you are already a member, Let's Ride! Not a Mid Hudson Riders member yet, join us, need help riding in a group- we can help, Hope to ride with you soon, MJ (eMJay)

Revering God in Nature: Transcendentialist Outdoor Adventure

Poughkeepsie, NY

Revering God in Nature: Transcendentialist Outdoor Adventure
Following the teachings of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau (but also through the writings/example of John Burroughs, John Muir, Theodore Roosevelt and occasionally others), we are a group of nature-loving outdoor recreationalist theists who find spiritual renewal and growth by time spent in the wild. We believe that ecology, climate, seasonal weather, wildlife, and water and their interwoven systems and sciences reveal and promote reverence to the Creator. We believe that personal religious experience is possible through outdoor exposure since all things naturally lead us to God. ā€œIn the woods,ā€ Emerson wrote in his magnum opus NATURE, ā€œwe return to reason and faith. There I feel that nothing can befall me in life ā€“ no disgrace, no calamity ā€¦ which nature cannot repair.ā€ He continued, ā€œStanding on the bare ground ā€” my head bathed by the blithe air, and uplifted into infinite space ā€” all mean egoism vanishes. ā€¦ The currents of the Universal Being circulate through me; I am part and particle of God.ā€ We seek to implement the goals of Transcendentialism, the philosophical religion of Emerson and Thoreau that exalted nature, individualism, self-reliance, and a life devoted to intellectualism, solitude, thought, and leisure. As an interdenominational group, we consciously leave the formalism of religious dogma and doctrine to other other institutions. Our version of church is rather one of private spirituality and individual renewal infused by nature itself. "On every side there is something to soothe and refresh this sense," wrote Thoreau in A WEEK ON THE CONCORD AND MERRIMACK RIVERS, "Look up at the tree-tops and see how finely Nature finishes off her work there. See how the pines spire without end higher and higher, and make a graceful fringe to the earth. And who shall count the finer cobwebs that soar and float away from their utmost tops, and the myriad insects that dodge between them. Leaves are of more various forms than the alphabets of all languages put together: of the oaks alone there are hardly two alike, and each expresses its own character." ā€œI opened my eyes and let what would pass through them into my soul,ā€ Emerson wrote in his 1834 journal, ā€œThe pines glittered with their innumerable green needles in the light and seemed to challenge me to read their riddle. The drab oak leaves of the last year turned their little somersaults and lay still again. And the wind bustled high overhead in the forest top.ā€ Reason, he says, can penetrate the inner workings of nature to reveal core truths about the self and the world. When we see an inner principle with clarity and focus, Emerson says we experience ā€œa casting moment.ā€ As a group we will assemble and gather to partake in outdoor adventure "casting moments" -- largely kayaking or hiking -- to fill our senses with nature and let it speak to us. Some outings will include readings, presentations, or discussions on the works of Transcendentalist authors, but largely most of our activities will leave the insights and religious experience entirely to the individual to absorb privately from nature itself. ā€œThe morning wind forever blows,ā€ Thoreau wrote, ā€œthe poem of creation is uninterrupted; but few are the ears that hear it.ā€

Cure for Boredom

Danbury, CT

Cure for Boredom

Cure for Boredom is just what it sounds like. We are about building better times.
People getting up and out and finding new friends and events to enjoy and share. Curing your boredom exploring new horizons.
I was looking to form the perfect group and did but then I joined, and it was not perfect anymore šŸ˜‰ ha-ha
So here we are looking to make life better by making memories and good friends. YES YOU! You should join and meet new people and find some events or activities that interest you. I hope that this group would have a variety of activities and events. If you join and really like an idea or have a suggestion then that is great and encouraged as any good group is a shared experience and your desire may just be the thing that someone else is looking to try or do.
Some ideas are music venues , hiking , trivia event , bowling , pool parties, Fire Pit nights , skiing , travel and diners , charities, pet friendly, billiards, boating , golf, concerts, comedy nights, biking ,social, health and living, wineries and breweries, kick ball games ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦. And many many more. Now all of that may not be posted all the time but as this group grows it should be known that the many interest varieties of the members should be offered and made available.
Life is good and sometimes it could be better to find fun things to do with others. Fun without boarders so that we are not boxed in and you could also expand your boundaries to explore new areas and even meet new people.
Just remember that any group is only as good as its members. So, you are so awesome that I was going to name the group AFTER YOU! šŸ˜Š then you could have told everyone that you joined a group that was named ā€œAfter Youā€ šŸ˜‰
Cheers!
