Jeff & Salli's Excellent Adventures
**OUR MISSION:** After spending most of our lives traveling the world looking for adventure, Salli and I have found a new pastime - exploring our own backyard and having people join us in the fun. Our main purpose is simple: to bring together fun-loving people who not only enjoy getting out and discovering unique places, but also want to share their experiences with others. By attracting singles, couples and people from all age groups and ethnicities our hope is to create friendships that will last a lifetime. Our events will be varied and include visits to unique scenic areas that may not be familiar to most Clevelanders. Other activities will include kayaking local rivers, lake cruises, zipline courses, road trips, winter walks, wine and beer tastings, and seasonal attractions. Since there are plenty of purely hiking, biking and kayaking groups already out there, we do not plan to compete with them. Salli and I want our events to be done at a leisurely enough pace so that we can take the time to fully experience the places we visit. This will be our mission and how we will differ from other groups. **OUR ONLY REQUIREMENT:** The only requirement to membership is that you provide a REAL picture of yourself and a REAL name. No cartoons, nicknames or initials please! It causes a lot of unnecessary confusion at events when we don't know what somebody looks like and don't know their name. If you have a legitimate reason for not providing these please let me know, but I prefer having no exceptions. **FREE MEMBERSHIP:** I will never charge a fee to members of our group. Organizers should be able to pay for their own subscription. Meetup should be free to everyone! **ABOUT OUR "HIKES":** We are NOT a pure hiking group. Our "hikes" are not intended to be non-stop, cardio workouts. Walking for us is simply a mode of transportation - a way to access areas that have a particular scenic value. You can expect us to stop often to experience the surroundings, take pictures and maybe even have a conversation about what we are visiting. We will travel at no MORE than 3MPH (20 minute miles) and never leave anyone behind. If you need to move at a faster, non-stop pace or don't care about your surroundings, this is definitely not a group for you. **RESTAURANT POLICY:** I want to restrict restaurant attendance to those people who do the ENTIRE event. It is so difficult dealing with restaurants right now that I want to make sure that we have enough seating before allowing others to attend. Jeff & Salli events are never intended to be "restaurant only" so I hope you all understand. **ABOUT RSVPs:** Attendance at events is important to everybody. If you RSVP to something, please make every effort to attend and be on-time. If not, please do us a favor by changing it early enough so that we know you are not coming. It makes it very difficult to reserve space at certain venues when we don't have an accurate count. Also, if you have purchased a ticket and find out that you can't attend, please let me know and I can usually find someone who wants to buy your ticket before the day of the event. **RSVPing to PREPAID EVENTS:** If you are new to Meetup I need to explain how prepaid events work. Merely RSVPing to something doesn't guarantee you a seat or buy a ticket. It only tells an organizer that you are INTERESTED in attending. You still need to read the info on how to buy a ticket and complete that process before you can attend. RSVPs are simply a statement of interest and not a guarantee or ticket purchase. **NO-SHOWS:** These are always a problem with Meetups. There are so many people who will sign up for many events early and end up forgetting which ones they've committed to. I do not have a "3 no-shows and you are out" policy so please be considerate by committing to one event only and making sure you change your RSVPs to the others. **INJURY LIABILITY DISCLAIMER:** “Jeff & Salli's Excellent Adventures” group and its organizers are not responsible for your safety or well-being. Outdoor activities are inherently dangerous. The COVID-19 outbreak has added a new element of concern to events and it is entirely the member's responsibility to determine their own risk tolerance before attending. By signing up for these events, you agree to release “Jeff & Salli's Excellent Adventures” group of Meetup.com and its organizers from ANY responsibility, liability or claim in law or in equity. If you DON'T agree to these terms, DO NOT JOIN THIS MEETUP EVENT. “Jeff & Salli's Excellent Adventures" group of Meetup.com doesn't certify the expertise of its organizers. The organizers in this Meetup.com group are volunteers. You are responsible for yourself. You have voluntarily elected to participate in the events listed under “Jeff & Salli's Excellent Adventures” events and FULLY ACCEPT AND ASSUME ALL RISKS AND ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY INJURY, SICKNESS, LOSSES AND DAMAGES TO PERSON OR PROPERTY THAT INCUR AS A RESULT OF YOUR PARTICIPATION.   That's enough of the boring stuff. Let's get ready to go out and do some exploring!

The Hopeless Wanderers - Backpacking Group

Cleveland, OH

The Hopeless Wanderers - Backpacking Group
Welcome, Wanderer! What you've "wandered" upon is an outdoor adventure group started in Northeast Ohio that strives to create "respites" in the woods.  Our primary mission is to enjoy the natural world that surrounds us by leaving behind the technologies, stress and ease of "city life," and by trekking (one boot in front of the other) into the serenity of the wilderness - all that we have securely packed on our backs. This pursuit can, at times, seem "hopeless" when we're stuck in the doldrums of our 9-to-5's.  However, those desperate moments call for desperate actions.  It is truly amazing how quickly the stressors of "the daily grind" melt away when you're sipping that dawn cup of mountain coffee, or tucked into a cozy sleeping bag on a crisp autumn night. Whether the trip is near (Ohio, PA, WV) or far (CO, Cali, WY)...our goal remains the same: safe adventure travel to pristine natural areas. This group was started to bring together fellow outdoor enthusiasts willing to backpack.  We welcome members new and experienced to outdoor adventure, and also members young (well...18 years and older please) and old.  We're a social bunch, and not every activity we plan involves dirt (although it seems like that!) Backpacking involves two basic components: hiking and backcountry camping. The hikes tend to be of a moderate nature. They are physically demanding, yet require no technical skills (ie. ropework, ice traverse, climbing). Camping skills are required, and may be different than "car camping" that doesn't require much "roughing it..." However, these are skills that are best learned on the trail and at the campsite. ALL skill levels are welcome...whether you've climbed Everest, watched a lot of "Man vs. Wild" or only just dreamed of watching a sunset over a mountain in absolute silence and tranquility. We are happy to educate beginners.  We only ask that each adventurer provide their own gear and abide by our general rules. We are not a "singles" group.  If you're looking for that, perhaps you should wander on over to any one of the multiple Meetup groups that designed for such.  That being said, we host many activities that are social in nature.  As was stated, not all of our activities are pure hiking. We often meet for social interactions and usually meetup for trip planning sessions at a local watering hole. Our event organizers and event hosts are volunteers, and offer many combined years of veteran outdoor leadership.  Trips are planned throughout the year, and as our group grows, the number of trips available to members is steadily climbing.  The opportunity lead trips and organize activities is open to all members...we just ask that you join us for a few activities to see what we're all about. Please take a minute to review some of our core beliefs regarding conduct and environmental stewardship. A group for artists to gather and draw and paint and sculpt each other and the other things and people around us at the place where we meet. A way to build community, share skills and techniques, and motivate one another to use our talents. Some will likely be beginner artists, and others more advanced. Be kind. Be cooperative. Someone might draw, paint, or sculpt you as you do your art. Someone might volunteer to hold a pose for the group. This will take place outdoors in parks, and perhaps other places in and around Santa Monica. You might use the other artists as your models, or the people and things around us. It might be the duck ponds at Douglas Park. It might be Palisades Park, where people picnic, sit and read, write on their laptops, and hang out with their dogs. It might be in Temescal Canyon Park in Pacific Palisades, where families play in a field. It might be near sand volleyball courts on Santa Monica beach, north of the pier, or up near the Annenberg Community Beach House (there is a parking lot there), so we have the active volleyball players as options for our subjects. People might wander over and watch. Get used to that, it's not something we can control. If you don't want to talk, put on a headset, and at least pretend that you are listening to music and can't hear them. 😃 Someone might offer to buy your art. Have a card or paper and pen to share your email address. Bring a chair and/or cushion, the clothing/hat you need, and what you need for doing your art (perhaps a small, folding table only big enough for your supplies - NOT a full-sized table that hogs space). Check the weather report. In case of rain, we will delay until another Sunday morning.
