Francofous de Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, PA

Francofous de Pittsburgh

Welcome to the Francofous de Pittsburgh Meetup Group. Our group organizes or promotes activities that include weekly conversation meetups, French-language movie showings, French-language dinners, cooking lessons in French, outings to hear opera or symphonic music of France, trips to the theater for English-language plays written by French authors, museum visits, French Scrabble game nights, and talks by experts on subjects related to the French-speaking world.

The goal is to promote the french culture in the wide sense (language, culture etc.) so that everybody is welcome to join. If you attend an old French-class long time ago and want to try to speak French again or just listen the language, you're welcome. If you do not speak French but would like to learn about the French wines and its cultures, that is perfects and you are welcome to join our wine tasting events ! The more we are, the best !

To join our group, we do ask for a few basics:

1) Please upload a profile picture so that we can recognize you. Our organizers can sometimes find you quicker than you can find them at crowded events. Walking up to strangers and asking if they are there for a meetup can yield some funny looks.

2) Please answer the profile questions so everyone can learn about the other members of our wonderful group.

3) We do everything possible to foster an open, encouraging and inclusive French language environment. Ideally, participants will have at least a rudimentary ability and desire to learn to speak this beautiful language. It is expected that French is used exclusively at certain events: weekly French conversation meetups. Beginners are always welcome also ! Of course, this is not mandatory and English people can join. However, this is better to speak english in cultural event (wine tasting, movies, etc.)

4) Our group is as good as its members and the activities it sponsors. If you hear of a French-related event in Pittsburgh or have an idea for an activity, please let one of the organizers know. We welcome interest in helping to organize/host events.

7) Out of respect to our organizers as well as the members attending a meetup, we do ask that you change your RSVP if you have to back out of an event.  It is ideal if you can update 24 hours ahead, but if not, please contact the organizer (most will give their cell phone number to attendees, in case of changes).  IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO POST A "NO" FOR EVENT ATTENDANCE, unless it is to show a change of plans.

Mon Valley PA Bicycle & Outdoors Meetup

Monongahela, PA

Mon Valley PA Bicycle & Outdoors Meetup
\*Please note that, while we appreciate continued interest in the group, we are not accepting new members at this time. We will review new member join requests again in 2025.\* This group is for folks who want to get out and about and enjoy the fresh air and scenery on the beautiful trails and in the parks near the Mon Valley area, such as Mingo Creek County Park, Cedar Creek, the Laurel Highlands, and other trails in Pennsylvania and surrounding states. We enjoy biking the GAP and host a variety of short and long, always casual, rides along many of the stretches of the GAP. We also like to venture out to other trails for some day-long and overnight scenic trips.  In addition to bicycling, we take to hiking (at a *sauntering pace*), kayaking, camping, star-gazing and other activities, and try to work in some ice skating in the winter. We are always looking for fun, active events to round out the year, so if there's something you like to do and want company, please feel free to suggest it! We are a casual, genial group looking to enjoy the aesthetics of nature - our aim is not to build cardio or endurance, though if those happen, then we are better for it! We stop to snack, eat lunch, take pictures, marvel at natural beauty - and chat a lot along the way. We also host a few other activities that keep us connected, esp through winter months. Next, some business: It is important to our hosts and members to recognize and address members when at events. Please note that, for your request to be approved, your profile needs a name (anything gimmicky is a deterrent) and photo of you that makes you recognizable to our hosts - obscured or hidden faces, pictures that feature more than 1 person (we don't know which person is you), scenic shots (regardless of how great the photography is) etc. are not recommended. Your profile picture for this group can be different from your picture for other groups or your main Meetup profile. If you do not get approved, this is likely the reason. I will also remove inactive members and those who no longer have profile pictures. Also, please be respectful of hosts - • Change your RSVP if you can't attend, especially if the host is being charged any kind of fee. • Refrain from "hijacking" someone's posted event. • On overnight trips, be considerate of group members before inviting non-members to spend the night - please discuss with host in advance. We look forward to seeing you! Diane Marie

We reserve the right to delete your membership Happy Gaming! **Your Organizers** Janet, Matthew, Ron, and Terry **CODE OF CONDUCT** Our goal is to create a great Pittsburgh community that is a safe, friendly, and fun place to learn and play board games of all sorts. We want every member of the Board Gaming Geeks (BGG) community to be able to focus their full attention on becoming a better gamer, both at BGG events and in our larger online and real-world Pittsburgh communities. This is impossible to do if one is being harassed, stalked, intimidated, or discriminated against. Please note that Geeks herein refers to persons, often of an intellectual bent, who are enthusiasts of board game activities. Prior Board Game experience is not required. Any game at a BGG event will be explained prior to play. Accordingly, all Board Gaming Geeks members, as well as guests and visitors, are expected to show respect and courtesy to each other in all interactions, whether at BGG, in our online community, or in other contexts. We ask for courtesy if your plans change. Please inform an Organizer if you cannot attend a Gaming Event to which you RSVP'd "yes". This group is cross-posted on Facebook and Twitter but is managed on Meetup. Please use the Meetup App to RSVP. Consistently being a No Show or not attending any of our Meetup Events for 8 months will make us perceive the group is no longer of interest to you. We reserve the right to delete your membership. Costs to run this Meetup are currently being covered by the organizers. We may charge a nominal $5 fee in the future. Any change in our membership fees will be announced 6 months in advance and will then require annual registration. Any excess fees collected will be used to pay for snacks at a future Event. Further, please respect the commercial establishment that is allowing us the space to game. If you want food or drink, buy it from them and do not bring items from elsewhere. Also, dispose of your refuse before you leave. To make sure that everyone has a common understanding of “show respect and courtesy to each other,” and to prevent undesirable harassment or behavior of participants in our Board Gaming Geeks (BGG) Meetup Events, we have adopted the following code of conduct. The code of conduct is enforced by the BGG Administrators. • All members are expected to signal they have read, understand, and agree to this code. **The Code** The following are unacceptable at BGG, both online and in-person, and constitute code of conduct violations. Harassment — including offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, political affiliation, race, or religion, as well as sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual or romantic attention. Threats — threatening someone physically or verbally. For example, threatening to publicize sensitive information about someone’s personal life. Flagrant Anti Social Behavior — saying things that are explicitly racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. For example, arguing that some people are less intelligent because of their gender, race or religion. Small mistakes made in conversation are not considered overt code of conduct violations. However, repeating something after it has been pointed out to you that you broke a social rule, or antagonizing or arguing with someone who has pointed out your anti-social language is considered unwelcoming behavior, and is not allowed at BGG. Maliciousness towards other members — deliberately attempting to make others feel bad, name-calling, singling out others for derision or exclusion. For example, telling someone they’re not a real gamer or that they don’t belong at BGG. Being especially unpleasant — for example, if we’ve received reports from multiple gamers of annoying, rude, or especially distracting behavior. Other Unacceptable Social Behavior is also prohibited and includes but is not limited to: • Sustained disruption of games or other events. • Using membership information for your or your company's gain. You agree not to Spam other members. • Microaggressions - that is subtle verbal expressions or subtle actions of racism, sexism, ageism, body shaming, homophobia, transphobia, or other kinds of bias and prejudice are not allowed. Microaggressions can be present in ways that might be hard to recognize by those to whom they are not directed. Microaggressions make people feel uncomfortable and unwelcome; like they don’t belong at BGG. Since microaggressions are likely unintentional, making one doesn’t make anyone a bad person. However, if someone says, "hey, that’s subtly sexist," don’t worry; just acknowledge, reflect, apologize, and move on. Please be aware of others' feelings and act in a way to be inclusive, not exclusive. We want an environment where everyone is having fun while gaming. • Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above unwanted behaviors. **Enforcement** Participants asked to stop any unwanted or harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in Unacceptable Behavior, Board Gaming Geeks MeetUp organizers retain the right to take any actions to keep their event a welcoming environment for all participants. This includes warning the offender or expulsion from the MeetUp [with no refund]. Event organizers may take action to redress anything designed to, or with the clear impact of, disrupting the event or making the environment hostile for any participants. We expect participants to follow these rules at all event venues and event-related social activities. We think people should follow these rules outside event activities too! **Reporting** If someone makes you or anyone else feel unsafe or unwelcome, please report it as soon as possible to an Event Organizer. Instead of reporting a code of conduct violation, please contact law enforcement (call 911) directly to report criminal activity (e.g. physical assault, sexual assault, theft, or fear that someone will hurt themselves or someone else) or contact store personnel to report a dangerous physical situation (e.g. flood, fire or serious injury or damage). **Confidentiality** We will keep all reports confidential, except if we've discussed with you and agreed otherwise. When we discuss incidents with people who are reported, we will anonymize details as much as we can to protect reporter privacy. If the violation happened online, please link to or send us the relevant text. If the violation happened in person, please detail what exactly the other person said or did. In order to take action, we need to know the concrete actions that someone took.

Share the journey, Build a community!

Meet other parents who practice Attachment Parenting!

Attachment Parenting focuses on forming and nurturing strong bonds between parents and their children. Attachment Parenting challenges us as parents to treat our children with kindness, respect and dignity, and to model in our interactions with them the way we'd like them to interact with others.

And while this approach sounds simple, attachment parents often find themselves alone on this parenting journey. We saw the need for a community of like-minded parents in Pittsburgh and started this group. Since its inception, Pittsburgh Attachment Parenting Meetup Group has grown and evolved. We are all happy to be sharing this journey, supporting one another, and building a community based on respect for ourselves and our children.

Free and Almost Free in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, PA

Free and Almost Free in Pittsburgh

IF YOU WANT TO HOST AN EVENT: MESSAGE FRANK AT midnightmunchiespa@gmail.com and I will EMPOWER you to be an Event Organizer on 5 Meetup Groups with a reach in the Pgh Region (SW PA & a lil bit of WV and OH of over 38,000+ people).

FYI: Meetup is a WEB PAGE with a THEME that happens to be an EVENTS CALENDAR AND AN EMAIL LIST.  It mostly works because of the emails.

I also send out a MEETUP NEWSLETTER about the Hosted Events Happening on those meetups Once or Twice a Week. Basically anything can be posted but no "Network Marketing" Stuff like essential oils, Amway or anything scammy.  Try to make your event less like advertising and more like HEY LETS HANG OUT AND DO COOL STUFF TOGETHER.   This Free and Almost Free Meetup has one extra rule Events have to be $5 or Less (aka cheap) to FREE!

If an event says it's hosted by "Not Hosted by Group" then it is an INFORMATIVE EVENT telling you about FREE and Cheap cool things happening in the Burgh.  If you want to meetup with people, try to connect with others that are rsvp'd through the comments but don't always expect it to work.  HOSTED events have a PERSON hosting and will mention a place to MEET.

If you are a performer, it's okay to say on the meetup: Hey I am doing this comedy show/band/burlesque "come and see me and let me entertain you."

DONATE: It costs me Frank, as the main organizer of this Meetup group, $240 a year to host this group on Meetup.com! Please consider a small donation to help defray this cost.

Thank you.

DONATE HERE: https://secure.meetup.com/pittsburgh-free/contribute/

This Meetup is for EVENTS that have a ticket/cover of $5 or LESS or even FREE!

5-10% of the Events here on FREE & Almost FREE are SOCIAL (Hosted)

90-95% of the Events here are just informing you about cheap/cool/awesome stuff happening in the burgh region (not hosted just informational about FREE AND CHEAP EVENTS IN THE REGION).

So when there is a SOCIAL EVENT on this page with a HOST expect a couple extra emails to help make that meetup WORK and have a decent critical mass of people to make it decently fun!

There are a lot of activities in Pittsburgh that are free, or almost free - free days at museums, free concerts and films, free outdoors festivals, free cultural events ... . In addition to these (can't beat the price!), we'll post "almost free" ones where the cost is low (at most $5) compared to the fun that can be had.

This is an VERY ACTIVE MEETUP, you will get a ton of e-mail, my recommendation is if you have a secondary e-mail address use that for your user id. Or that you go up to "My Profile" on right hand side of page and select E-mail and Notifications. You still will get a bunch of e-mails but it will be more manageable. Meetups WORK because of E-mail, not because people come here to look for things to do. <br> FYI: Social events at places can be posted as long as it is FREE to go there or the cover is $5 or less. People can decide on their own if they are eating and drinking. Example: Lets go see this Band that has no cover charge at this Bar. If YOU want to eat or drink something while you're there that's on YOU.

It's still a FREE or ALMOST FREE event. If they charged more than $5 for cover or had a mandatory food n drink min above $5 then it won't get posted. Or a YOGA class that asks for a $5 donation is okay, $6 is not...  This was preventing some social events from happening on this page and we want to encourage social\fun events on the free and almost free group.

Please also be advised that there are particular inherent risks of injury involved in city inline/roller skating, including, but not limited to: cars, bicycles, other skaters, pedestrians, potholes, manhole covers, chains, trolley tracks, cobblestones, bad pavement, water, oil, debris, gravel, curbs, stairs, hills and inclines. This list of possible risks is not comprehensive, because conditions on the street, including the weather, are constantly changing. TRIC cannot accept any liability for the existence of any such risks. Ultimately, each skater is responsible for staying alert to potential risks and obeying all traffic regulations. Finally, TRIC strongly recommends that all participants in TRIC sponsored events (including the city skates) possess and master a set of minimum skate skills before participating in its events: the ability to skate in control, especially on hills; to stop in traffic; to maneuver curbs; and to avoid obstacles.
