Mon Valley PA Bicycle & Outdoors Meetup

Monongahela, PA

Mon Valley PA Bicycle & Outdoors Meetup
\*Please note that, while we appreciate continued interest in the group, we are not accepting new members at this time. We will review new member join requests again in 2025.\* This group is for folks who want to get out and about and enjoy the fresh air and scenery on the beautiful trails and in the parks near the Mon Valley area, such as Mingo Creek County Park, Cedar Creek, the Laurel Highlands, and other trails in Pennsylvania and surrounding states. We enjoy biking the GAP and host a variety of short and long, always casual, rides along many of the stretches of the GAP. We also like to venture out to other trails for some day-long and overnight scenic trips.  In addition to bicycling, we take to hiking (at a *sauntering pace*), kayaking, camping, star-gazing and other activities, and try to work in some ice skating in the winter. We are always looking for fun, active events to round out the year, so if there's something you like to do and want company, please feel free to suggest it! We are a casual, genial group looking to enjoy the aesthetics of nature - our aim is not to build cardio or endurance, though if those happen, then we are better for it! We stop to snack, eat lunch, take pictures, marvel at natural beauty - and chat a lot along the way. We also host a few other activities that keep us connected, esp through winter months. Next, some business: It is important to our hosts and members to recognize and address members when at events. Please note that, for your request to be approved, your profile needs a name (anything gimmicky is a deterrent) and photo of you that makes you recognizable to our hosts - obscured or hidden faces, pictures that feature more than 1 person (we don't know which person is you), scenic shots (regardless of how great the photography is) etc. are not recommended. Your profile picture for this group can be different from your picture for other groups or your main Meetup profile. If you do not get approved, this is likely the reason. I will also remove inactive members and those who no longer have profile pictures. Also, please be respectful of hosts - • Change your RSVP if you can't attend, especially if the host is being charged any kind of fee. • Refrain from "hijacking" someone's posted event. • On overnight trips, be considerate of group members before inviting non-members to spend the night - please discuss with host in advance. We look forward to seeing you! Diane Marie

Pittsburgh CUBA Meetup

Pittsburgh, PA

Pittsburgh CUBA Meetup

CURIOUS ABOUT CUBA?

Our members and affiliates work together to create an opportunity for the people of our region, both individuals and organizations, to engage in mutually beneficial exchanges with the people of Cuba. Despite decades of travel restrictions, hardships and the illegal, crippling, economic blockade, we have continued our work to engage in peaceful and constructive activities with our counterparts in Cuba.

President Obama's easing of travel restrictions and restarting diplomatic channels to Cuba create new opening for diverse opportunities and exchanges that allow us to expand our relationships and understandings of realities in both of our societies.

If you are curious about Cuba, please join us, we help people go to Cuba, and hope you will help us bring Cubans to Pittsburgh to share their experiences in building a different more socially compassionate and environmentally sustainable model for human society. Cuba is the only county in the world that has a zero environmental footprint. Healthcare, education, social equality are fundamental human rights in Cuba. We have much to learn from the 'forbidden island.'

Join us to learn more about Cuba, and meet the Cuban people as we partner to build a better world for all humanity. We are the 'Pittsburgh-Matanzas Sister Cities Partnership' and have been working proudly for over 20 years in our shared goals to support of the Cuban people's determination to create a better world.

GreyShepherds Philosophy Community

Pittsburgh, PA

GreyShepherds Philosophy Community
This group is intended to be a multifaceted culmination of (open, no judgment)developmental discussions of life and meaning, as well as social activities to form community amongst members that are seeking to better themselves and grow as individuals. The **primary concept** behind the grey shepherds philosophy is to become more deeply aware of the concept/application of balance in all things , expanding past simple black and white thinking to grasp a more whole understanding of reality. We are all different but can all learn from one another because we are all different. The **primary goal**; to aid everyone in becoming their most authentic self through expansion in self-awareness . **Who Should Join?:** Those interested in the learning and application of philosophy, Growth minded individuals, those interested in continued self-knowing,spiritual progression, or looking for community. **Events:** Monthly meetings will be held to openly discuss concepts, ideas, and any correlative factors. Eventually, we will have a rotation of monthly topics that will be decided at a later date. **Community Guidelines**: When you join the group, you are agreeing to the Community Guidelines. ● Confidentiality. What is shared in group, stays in group. This builds trust among individuals in our community. ● Respect. Absolutely no hate language. Do not talk over or interrupt others. One voice at a time. Additionally, there are many points of convergence between the study of science, philosophy, and spirituality. All are relative to one another. And all individuals come from different points of origin. So regardless of personal beliefs, hold respect for other members' right to their own thoughts. ● Listen to understand, not to give advice. We will use “I” statements, not “you” statements. Practice listening to others deeply, rather than thinking about what you will say next. Silence is okay. ● Self-Awareness. Be aware of the time you take when sharing with the group. Recognize that each person needs to have time to share. Members are welcome to share what they feel comfortable with. ● Be Present. Stay present with us throughout our time together. ● Self-care. If you need to use the bathroom, get food, or move your body, please do! Group Rules 1\. The Pittsburgh 30ish Social Group

Pittsburgh, PA

The Pittsburgh 30ish Social Group

Welcome to our social networking group for Pittsburgh socialites in or approaching their 30s. Our events offer a unique way to make new friends and meet like-minded folks in a laid-back atmosphere.

Please note our focus is on SOCIAL connections, not for professional networking or dating. If you're joining this group to advance a professional or romantic agenda, please seek membership in another group.

We schedule casual gatherings in different locations as they seem appropriate; these can include not only "happy hours" and house parties, but outdoor activities including hikes, kayaking, et cetera.

This group is open to people of all professions, relationship statuses, races, sexual orientations, religious/philosophical beliefs, and ethnic backgrounds. All we ask is that you hold yourself to four standards of behavior: dignity, diligence, community, and responsibility.

While this group is open to people who are approaching their 30s (i.e. 25+), membership in this group (especially for vicenarians) is contingent on people acting with the maturity expected of people in their 30s (tricenarians). If you're a member who has just turned 40, don't worry; we won't exacerbate your potential mid-life crisis by kicking you out of the group. But we will encourage you to consider joining a more age-appropriate group.

You will be required to complete a brief questionnaire to introduce yourself this group (in keeping with our ethos of community) Your answers become part of your group profile and serve as your self-introduction to the group. Please answer them honestly.

Please feel free to contact myself, Kristen, or any of the assistant organizers if you have any questions.
