H3 OUTDOORS (H3O)

Valley Forge, PA

H3 OUTDOORS (H3O)
**Welcome Adventurers To H3 Outdoors or H3O!!!** \ You might be asking... what does H3 stand for? *Harmony... Happy... Healthy... Outdoors!* **"We're Not Just Hiking... We're H3O!"** We are a diverse group of hikers, walkers, backpackers, campers, runners, bicyclists, paddlers, rock climbers who simply enjoy being outside, with other people and getting some exercise at the same time. **Ten Years... over 6,000 members... and 4000 events!** We started out as a hiking group in 2013 and that is still our core activity, but H3O is evolving everyday in every way to expand our horizons to offer just about any fun, healthy outdoor activity possible. [H3O Member Code of Conduct (Click To View)](https://docs.google.com/document/d/17ZYMIr-fiMDEFPPO9D1WRVEfxVK6ELcy/edit?usp=drivesdk&ouid=112345812258770866986&rtpof=true&sd=true) **Where Do We Go? "Outdoors" Is A Pretty Big Place!** Many of our hikes and events are in Valley Forge National Park, Ridley Creek State Park and most other parks and hiking trail destinations located throughout Chester, Montgomery, Berks and Delaware counties. But we are always venturing out to other areas and neighboring states and now across the country. And in 2015 we hosted our first international hiking trip to England. **Are H3O Hikes and Activities For You?** \ Our members have a variety of physical skill levels from beginner to intermediate to advanced hardcore. We always plan our hikes and activities with this in mind and will let you know the minimum skill level required so you can decide if an activity is appropriate for you to attend. Hiking and activities should always be well within your own comfort and skill level. Our organizers are not professionals and all hiking and activities are always at your own risk and responsibility. Dogs on a leash are permitted at your own risk on Meetups where the venue allows dogs. Our number one goal is to have fun and enjoy the great outdoors while observing safety at all times. **Do We Charge Anything?** Meet Up charges a fee to maintain the website and all groups need to pay this to continue to post activities for their group. We don't charge our members but anyone can feel free to "Chip In" voluntary contributions. This is NOT a membership fee but a voluntary donation to keep the group going. If you are unable to make a donation, no worries; you are still welcome to join our group. Other than that, if a planned event requires a cost to conduct it (i.e., lodging, travel, permits, equipment, supplies, etc.) then we do charge the appropriate funds to cover those costs. We don't mark up any costs and we don't make a profit off any events. \ **So, What Do You Want To Do? Where Do You Want To Go?** We are open to the suggestions of our members. Let us know! Our activities are only limited by imagination! But let's keep it safe. Maybe no jumping out of helicopters. But that does sound fun! ***Come On Out and Join Us! We Hope To See You Out There! Whaaahoooo! ;)*** **Want To See For Yourself? Japanese Ju-Jitsu in the Lehigh Valley, PA

Emmaus, PA

Japanese Ju-Jitsu in the Lehigh Valley, PA
**Welcome to our Japanese Ju-Jitsu Meetup!**   We are dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive space where all individuals are welcomed, respected, and valued. Our group aims to create an empowering environment for everyone - regardless of your background or identity. Join us to learn some basic skills in Japanese Ju-Jitsu, meet and socialize with new people, and have fun! **What can explore a martial art do for you?** * Self-confidence * Self-discipline * Fitness * Attentiveness * Respect for others * Inclusion * Moral courage * ... **What is Ju-Jitsu?** Ju-Jitsu is modern self-defense. "The “Gentle Art” or “Art of Suppleness” (this is the meaning of ju-jitsu in Japanese) does not neutralize power with power but aims to rationally absorb an attack and convert that energy to the opponent’s own detriment. So it is designed to defend you with a flexible reaction on violence." If you're interested to find out more, browse the website of the Ju-Jitsu International Federation: www.jjif.sport **What can you expect?** Please be aware that this is an outdoor activity. We will engage in sportive activities with elements of cardio, strength, stability, and, of course, Ju-Jitsu techniques. Ju-Jitsu is a contact sport, so expect to engage in physical contact with other members. It's important to note that everyone has different physical capabilities and levels of comfort. Therefore, an open dialog between members when engaging in Ju-Jitsu is crucial. **Do you have to have experience in Ju-Jitsu?** No. The focus is on fitness, socializing, and having fun while learning elements of Ju-Jitsu. You train at your own pace and comfort level. You can choose which exercises you participate in and which ones you don't. **What do you need to bring?** * Wear activewear & sneakers that you feel comfortable and can move freely in * A yoga mat (unless you want to use the grass as your mat) * Water (to hydrate) * If you wear glasses, you might want to consider wearing contact lenses or sport goggles **What are the key differences between Japanese Ju-Jitsu and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu? ([Source](https://www.japanesemartialartscenter.com/learnmore-jujutsu-in-ann-arbor-vs-bjj))** ***A. Origins*** * Japanese Ju-Jitsu (JJJ) ‒ Originating in Japan as one of the first martial arts, JJJ came from samurai hand-to-hand combat. The idea was that samurai could defend themselves with Ju-Jitsu when their weapons were destroyed or lost. * Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) ‒ BJJ actually comes from Judo, not Ju-Jitsu. Followers of JJJ adapted the martial art into judo and taught it around the world. In the early 1900s, judo teacher Mitsuyo Maeda taught Judo in Brazil. One of his students was Carlos Gracie, who then created the style of BJJ. ***B. Moves*** * JJJ ‒ Throws, joint locks, chokes, kicks, and strikes are all moves used in JJJ. The main goal is to use strength and momentum against your opponent to overpower them. Ju-Jitsu is more about analyzing your opponent’s moves and quickly finding a way to bring them down. One hard throw could be enough to keep them down, unlike BJJ, where you hold down your opponent. * BJJ ‒ Consisting mostly of grappling, BJJ takes place primarily on the ground, with the goal to force submission onto the opponent. By using leverage and grip, moves like chokes and strangles make the opponent give up. ***C. Purpose*** * JJJ is used as a form of self-defense, fitness, and personal development. * BJJ is mostly used as a competitive sport. Moves like submissions or dominant positions earn you points and determine a winner. **Important:** This is not a paid class or club. This is a purely social group engaging in sportive activities. Your attendance is voluntary, at your own risk, and free of charge. A waiver (link will be provided in each scheduled event, or print-outs will be made available at the time of the event) must be signed before attending each event. **About me:** My name is Tim. I moved from Germany to the Lehigh Valley in early 2020, and now want to get involved in my community by teaching some basic Ju-Jitsu skills and bringing people together. I started doing Ju-Jitsu in Germany in 1998, but haven't gotten back into it in the States yet. To this day, I'm still a member of my home club [Ju Jutsu Club Peine e.V.](www.jjc-peine.de), even if I don't get to train there anymore. I was a member of my club's training team training adults and kids for many years, as well as of the board organizing training and social events. Outside of my club, I was a referee for the Ju-Jitsu Fighting System, and head referee of my home state for six years, supporting this beautiful sport in Germany. Question? Smart Survival Meetup Southeastern PA

Pottstown, PA

Smart Survival Meetup Southeastern PA
This meetup is for people in Southeastern PA who are concerned about America's rising crime rates, sporadic riots & mass shootings, rampant inflation, rising fuel costs & potential food shortages, increased tensions with Russia & China, as well as the erosion of privacy & civil liberties, and signs of instability in our political system that could lead to a constitutional crisis or even a civil war. Given all that's going on, it's smart to learn more about self-defense, personal safety, survival skills, and disaster prepping - just in case... \ The geographic area in Pennsylvania we cover is roughly the triangle defined by Philadelphia, Allentown/Bethlehem, and Lancaster and includes all parts in between (i.e. Media, Main Line, West Chester, King of Prussia, Exton, Downingtown, Coatesville, Lansdale, Doylestown, Quakertown, Kutztown, Phoenixville, Pottstown, Reading, Morgantown, Ephrata, Lebanon, etc). In addition to hosting our own events, we can take advantage of workshops and classes hosted by other groups in our area. Occasionally, we may make roadtrips to events a bit further away in other parts of PA, as well as in DE, MD & NJ. \ NOTE: Unlike most other meetups, I'm only teaching a few of the workshops listed on this page - mostly just the weekly rucks and a few online discussion over Zoom. But there's a lot of skills we can learn from other people in our area. I've combed the internet and listed as many survival-related events in our area as I can find. It's more than I can possibly attend, so don't count on me being there unless I say I will, but I listed everything I could find because I want to find some events that are convenient & affordable for everyone in our group. As you can see from our list of upcoming meetups, we're really lucky to have so many events in our area almost every week! Please RSVP to let me & others know which events you're interested in. And keep in mind, even if you don't see other people in our meetup RSVPing to an event, that does not mean no one is going - these are mostly events hosted by 3rd parties that are widely advertised and almost always have 10+ attendees. \ Our overall goal is to develop skills to help us cope with whatever life may throw in our way, whether that's crime, a natural disaster, economic instability, or political turmoil - or even more mundane things like car trouble, a power outage, or data privacy concerns. Our focus is on helping people not just survive but also \*thrive\* in uncertain times. We can do this by aligning the way we prepare for potential emergencies with our general self-improvement goals. When it's done the right way, training in self-defense skills can also help you get in better physical shape, build self-discipline & self-confidence, make you more situationally aware, and teach you to set personal boundaries & verbally deescalate conflicts. Learning some wilderness survival skills dovetails well with outdoor recreational activities like hiking, camping, hunting & fishing, all of which are beneficial by getting you more active outdoors which is healthy & relieves stress, and they also make you more aware of the natural world we depend upon. Similarly, sensible prepping dovetails well with the growing trends toward "frugal living" and "do-it-yourself" (DIY), and it can help you become more self-reliant and better at problem-solving, teach you ways to save money & diversify your investments, and give you some skills that are essential in a disaster scenario but can also help with regular household repairs & car maintenance. Coming to our meetups will also help you meet other people in our area who share many of your goals & interests. \ As a group, we'll do our best to help each other remain vigilant & prepared while not succumbing to the paranoia and conspiracy theories we sometimes see among the "doomsday preppers" or the Rambo fantasies of the mall-ninja types who amass huge amounts of "tacticool" gear they don't know how to use. Some of our group discussions will help with this by providing some stats & information to help us distinguish realistic threats from highly unlikely or unrealistic scenarios. \ If you'd like to get in shape, learn some self-defense and survival skills, and discuss some realistic ways to protect yourself and your family physically, legally & financially, please join us!
