Kayaking Houston

Cypress, TX

Kayaking Houston
Welcome to Kayaking Houston powered by AmeriKen Outdoors! We’re a friendly and welcoming group of paddlers and outdoor enthusiasts who, although Houston-based, enjoy getting outdoors to explore various destinations in the greater Houston area, San Marcos, Galveston, and other nearby destinations in this great state of ours and beyond. We’re fortunate to live in an area where we have many paddling, hiking and biking locations to choose from! We paddle lakes, bayous, rivers, and coastal areas - No two paddles, locations, or destinations are ever the same as our waterways are constantly changing, so every paddle is a new and exiting adventure. We hike and bike many popular as well as little known, hidden gems. All of our Event Hosts & Trip Leaders are ACA trained, and we strictly adhere to the safety rules & guidelines set out by the American Canoe Association (ACA), a National Organization. We are fortunate to have ACA Certified Trip Leaders and Instructors in our midst who share their knowledge & expertise with the group, as well as offer private lessons & paddling clinics throughout the year to those who want to advance and increase their skills and knowledge. Several of our instructors are also USCA certified canoe instructors, adding to the opportunities afforded us in our paddling endeavors. Our paddling events range from beginning paddles to more advanced paddles (L2 +) and we also host social events, camping trips and other outdoor activities such as hiking and mountain biking, so there’s always something available for everyone. Whether you’re a beginner and just getting started or someone who has been paddling for years, AmeriKen Outdoors is the group for you and we’d love for you to join us! If you are new to paddling and/or would like to join a beginner event or have questions about kayaking, please message the Site Organizer to get started. Kayaking in Houston Merging with Kayaking Houston
Hello Paddlers! **DON'T FORGET TO SIGNUP ON THE PAGE WE ARE MERGING WITH SO YOU CAN STAY UP TO DATE WITH THE LATEST EVENTS!! (This page will close in 2025)** **https://www.meetup.com/kayaking-houston/** This group has been inactive for a while now and it is time to make a change. I have been given the opportunity to become the organizer of this group and try to bring it back to an active level of participation and that is now the plan. Please allow me the opportunity to introduce myself. I am Kenny Sharpless, a former host on this site and currently the organizer of Kayaking Houston, both on Meetup and Facebook. I've received ACA training as an instructor, trip leader, Swiftwater rescue, and advanced level river kayak as well as being a USCA canoe instructor. The plan moving forward is to simultaneously post events on both Kayaking Houston and Kayaking in Houston to begin the process of merging both groups into one. Be on the lookout for upcoming paddles as we will begin posting them here very soon. I look forward to paddling with you very soon. Welcome to Kayaking Houston powered by AmeriKen Outdoors! Life Flow ~ Energy Yoga & Meditation

Houston, TX

Life Flow ~ Energy Yoga & Meditation

Welcome to Life Flow Energy Yoga & Meditation Group!  Meditation has so many benefits for those looking to calm the mind of it's day-to-day worries and recover a deeper connection with our true selves. Each day, we start fresh, like the Sun...and each day, we face different challenges which can easily over-shadow our brightness, without having the tools to relax the mind when it encounters these stresses. If we can stretch the body, calm the mind, and find just a few moments to be still, listen to the voice within...then we can find everything we need to start building a happier, healthier, more peaceful life...Now, rather than later. If you are new to meditation, or someone with a lot of experience, I hope you will join us for our Saturday Energy Meditation Circle Meetup. At this meetup, you will experience: ~Meditation ~Stretching ~Breathing exercises ~Relaxation ~Music Meditation ~Sensing/Awakening Life Energy for Increased Vitality ("chi" or "ki") ~Principles of Energy Management, Books on Meditation ...as well as meeting other people with the same goal in mind: to find peace within, by taking the precious time to connect mind and body, and activate the body's inherent potential to heal itself through meditation and breathing. This is a similar group to Cy-Fair Hope & Healing Meditation Circle, so you will have an option to attend classes in the Champions area now! We will also do outdoor meditations from time to time.

West-Side Friends

Houston, TX

West-Side Friends

Are you looking to meet some new friends and have some new kinds of fun? Do you like to eat? Dance? Play games? Drink? Play trivia and watch movies, etc? This may be the group for you!

West-Side Friends is a great way to get together with other people who love to have awesome social events and activities. We get together to play board games, we do charades, we eat out, we dance the night away, and we also play trivia. We socialize both in our homes and outside at restaurants, parks, movie theaters and a variety  of public spaces. West-Side Friends is a diverse, fun group for people of varied ages, tastes, backgrounds and interests.

Joining a Meetup group is easy to do. Going to your first Meetup event, especially if you do so alone, might not be so easy. The members of West-Side Friends want you to know that we are a friendly, diverse, and welcoming group of people who share a love of friends and fun. Let us know you are coming, and we will look for you. We highly encourage you to post a photo - posting your photo makes it easier for us to find you, but it is not mandatory.

Our events are hosted by group members who are all volunteers. We welcome your thoughts and  suggestions, and we encourage you to share them with us. Of course we always appreciate your help! If you have a great idea, feel free to host a meetup or contact an Organizer to help you get started. Everyone is welcome here.

We would love to get to know you.
Please tell us something about yourself, your interests, what you'd like to do & places/events/activities you'd be interested in.

Some other things we want to share with you:
DUES:
We collect a $6.00 annual due. We offer an alternative method of payment, not through the meetup app, whereby the cost is $5.00 annually. New members have a 30 day trial period to decide if they want to join and become a member. You are welcome to bring a guest with you one time - - after that if your same guest wants to join in on the activities, they need to become a member.

NO-SHOW POLICY:
We have a no-show policy for our events and activities. In our group anyone is welcome to host an event. For those who are attending an event, it is very important to check your schedule and un-RSVP from an event if your plans change. If you do not show up to an event for which you are signed up, or if you cancel after RSVPs are closed, you will be marked as a ”no-show”. You will be allowed three “no-shows,” after which point you will be kept on a waiting list for all events for a year. If spaces open up on the day of an event, you may be moved into that event. But no-shows will not be overlooked. West-Side Friends is a group that welcomes everyone, and we do not like to be strict. But it is embarrassing to have an event at a restaurant and only have 12 people show up when 20 signed up.

I hope after reading all "about us" you'll join us. We look forward to meeting you!
