Round Rock Image Creators

Round Rock, TX

Round Rock Image Creators

You really want to read all of this. No, really. You do. (Updated 7/16/2020 because changes...)

We have taken the group private, and required approval for membership. Additionally, members that have never chosen to participate in any activity, and that joined in 2019, have been removed from the group. Active management of the member list will take place going forward.

Why: RRIC seeks to foster an environment where learning is accomplished through group participation and discussion. By engaging in various activities, guided by facilitators, we seek to explore photography as a craft and a passion.

Where: We meet at Southern Hills Baptist Church, located at 575 Round Rock W Dr, Suite J300 in Round Rock, TX. There is a map posted in Photos. The church is located in a business complex, so you’re looking for an office type of situation.

Detailed directions: In Round Rock, take I-35 to McNeil Rd and head west. At the first light by the 7-11, turn right onto Round Rock W Dr. Follow Round Rock W Dr about 0.4 miles until you see a business complex on the right. You can either:

Turn right at the first “street”, across from Bluff Dr, and follow it back and turn left between buildings. Building J is on your left; we’re at the far end.

While on Round Rock W Dr, continue to the 2nd driveway on your right after the “street”/Bluff Dr. Head towards the back of the complex about 100 ft, where there is an intersection, and building J, and the church, will be to the right.

Google maps pinpoints the location; Apple maps not so much. See the photos in the Meetup album or Facebook album for a detailed drawing.

What: We have lots of plans for this group! Since we are primarily interested in the art and craft of image creation, participation is key. Meetings will be structured discussions focused on image critiques/evaluation, and one or two subjects of the month (SOTM). We'll also try to share discoveries such as photographers that are worth exploring, and more. We'll be adding elements to the meetings over time, based on our ideas, and what we hear from participants.

When: RRIC will meet once every month, January through November, 11 times per year, on the second Monday of each month. Meeting time is 7:00 - 9:00 PM, doors open at 6:30 PM. The meeting calendar and event reminders will be posted in the Round Rock Image Creators Facebook group, as well as here in Meetup as scheduled events.

Who: Everyone is welcome to attend, free of charge. There are no dues. That said, a small voluntary contribution will help us provide an honorarium to the hosting facility. And maybe snacks.

We can’t stress this enough: RRIC is about participation. We believe that that joining the group and not coming to any meetings isn’t beneficial to anyone. Participation in this meetup means attending at least one meeting every quarter. Since running a meetup costs money, it’s important to make the best use of our resources, and that means not spending money needlessly.

Each monthly meeting will include the following:

·  Statement of RRIC meeting ground rules

·  Introduction and welcome

·  Announcements

·  Critiques

·  Facilitated discussion

Questions are not just encouraged - they're almost required. We're not about sitting and listening to someone talk at you for one or two hours. We're about collaborative discussion.

Image critiques might be about well-known images, but are intended to be an opportunity for members to present their own work and get input about their work. Only active participants may submit images for consideration for critiques during monthly meetings. Note: “active” means you’ve been to a recent-ish meeting.

Images for submission for discussion should be sent to info@rric.club. Dimensions should be 2000 – 4000 pixels horizontal (landscape), or 2000 vertical (portrait or square).

At some point, discussion subjects will be posted in the FB group. The plan is to get participants to vote on subjects for future meetings.

We need a private place to post photos, allow discussions, and interact with other members. For the time being, the easiest place to allow that is on Facebook, where we’ve set up a closed group. Anyone can ask to join, but you have to make the effort. If you don’t “do” Facebook, we understand, and we’ll miss you. You don’t have to join the FB group, but it’s where we’ll (privately) post images, share information and updates, etc. It’s completely optional. And that’s okay.

If, instead, you would like to fund a private website and forum, contact us! We want to talk to you!

Please join the FB group for more information:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/rricclub/

Mailing List: We also plan to use a mailing list to provide monthly recaps and reminders. Sign up here:

The First Libertarian Fellowship

Round Rock, TX

The First Libertarian Fellowship
The purpose of this meetup group is to work towards the founding of a libertarian fellowship in the NE Austin and Round Rock Area. This fellowship will help meet some of the social and religious needs of those attending. This is a covenantal and noncreedal organization. We covenant around free will, individualism, and discord (recognizing the growth that comes from active disagreement). What does Religion mean. It comes from the Latin "religare" meaning to rebind. Libertarian means advocate of free will. This can include but is not limited to the individual liberty and personal responsibility valued in libertarian politics. This group is not primarily about politics, it is primarily social and religious in focus. Everyone interested in libertarianism, individualism, and/or extropic discordianism is welcome! Libertarians, extropians, objectivists, polyamorists, current and former unitarian universalists, atheists, agnostics, nontheists, freethinkers, science enthusiasts, individualists, Erisians, Discordians, anarchists, and philosophers. Those adherents of the older religions of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, Confucianism, Paganism, oracular rites, etc. that would like to attend a fellowship with a challenging atmosphere of diverse viewpoints will always have every courtesy made to make them feel welcome. The long range goal is to establish an institution capable of drawing members independent of the internet.
