Houston Active Dogs

Houston, TX

Houston Active Dogs

The Houston Active Dogs Meetup Group is open for active, non-aggressive, well-socialized dogs of all ages and breeds. HAD Members enjoy meeting and getting together with their social canine companions! We meet at various locations - dog parks, dog-friendly restaurants taverns and events - around the Houston-area to allow our dogs to play and socialize, and to give us the opportunity to make new friends within the *HAD* Group. We are dedicated to the on-going well-being of our canine companions through socialization and recreation. Please utilize this site for an up-to-date info on, and listing of, Dog Parks in the Houston-area: http://www.houstondogpark.org/

This meetup group also lists “un-hosted” events. These may be festivals, fundraisers, dog shows or other community events that are several hours long, but you could see everything in a much shorter time. These events don’t easily lend themselves to going with a group and the same could be said of multi-day events. They are listed as “un-hosted” to let our members know about them so you can check them out on your own and go when it’s convenient for your schedule.

Don't have a dog yet? There are many great rescues and shelters in Houston. Some work with any mixed breed dog while others may focus on specific breeds. Believe it or not, there are LOTS of purebred dogs that end up in shelters and rescues.

My favorite local shelter is Friends for Life located in the Heights. Check out their webpage here: https://friends4life.org. While they typically do not take owner surrenders they are a no-kill shelter with a focus on pulling animals from other area shelters that may be listed for euthanasia based on their breed, time at the shelter, medical condition, undesirable behavior, etc.

Outdoor Adventures Kayaking - Training & Tours (OAK T&T)

Houston, TX

Outdoor Adventures Kayaking - Training & Tours (OAK T&T)

Outdoor Adventures Kayaking Training & Tours [OAK T&T] is a Meetup Group dedicated to building a community of people interested in improving their coastal kayaking skills via formal training, and are interested in growing their kayaking expertise via day-touring experiences and kayak-camping expeditions.

Kayaking is great fun - just ask any paddler you find on the water. Kayaking offers so much to so many! Quiet leisure, intense adrenaline, or a path to exploration and adventure. Kayaking is a great way to access spectacular nature, experience reflective moments and to enjoy family and friends away from the distractions of life. Coastal kayaking helps paddlers build character, teach confidence and independence in a supportive environment filled with natural challenges, and provides a space to make your own decisions and to experience the consequences and the rewards, and encourages teamwork in stunning natural places.

OAK T&T is an inclusive group and is open to anyone interested in human-powered outdoor adventures (kayaking, hiking, camping, climbing, biking, backpacking, mountaineering). We enjoy paddling in day-touring kayaks and sea kayaks, both, plastic and composite hulls, but some of our friends paddle in sit-on-top kayaks.

OAK T&T offer safe and fun coastal kayak training and awesome touring experiences under the leadership of Constantin Platon [happy camper for 20+ years, ACA Level 3 Coastal Kayak Instructor and ACA Level 3 Trip Leader, and certified NOLS Wilderness First Aid, among other certifications].

Outdoor Adventures Kayaking Training & Tours [OAK T&T] is the Meetup branch of OAK GeoSciences.

www.oakgeosciences.com

OAK T&T Enthusiasts are welcome to bring their own kayaking gear or rent kayaking gear from our fleet of high-end European brands of single seat touring kayaks and sea kayaks, including Prijon kayaks (Made in Germany) and Valley and P&H kayaks (Made in England). We also have half-a-dozen of great-looking sit-inside tandem kayaks proudly made in USA by Wilderness Systems and Dagger. We paddle with high-quality paddles made by Werner and Aqua Bound.

OAK T&T Enthusiasts are encouraged to post ideas for future trainings and trips.

OAK T&T events follow the code of ethics and guidelines established by American Canoe Association. All participants must wear a properly-fitted U.S. Coast Guard approved lifejacket at all times during on-water activities.

For your membership to be considered, please answer our introductory questionnaire and upload your avatar/profile picture. Kayaking can be dangerous and your wellbeing or your property can be at risk. By attending our events you are taking personal responsibility for your wellbeing and property and are attending at your own risk.

Thank you for checking out OAK T&T and we are looking forward to be paddling together soon!

Please reach out to us if you have any questions kayaking related - we would love to help you out!

On behalf of the OAK T&T community of coastal kayakers: Warmest Greetings!

Clear Lake Area Walking Group (and Other Fun Activities)

Friendswood, TX

Clear Lake Area Walking Group (and Other Fun Activities)
Welcome to our walking group! In light of the covid-19 pandemic we want to remind everyone of part of your Meetup agreement: "You acknowledge that some Meetup events carry inherent dangers, such as the risk  of illness, bodily injury, disability, or death. By participating in these events, you understand and agree that you have freely chosen to assume these risks." Now, with that out of way, we are a very friendly and social group that encourages general fitness and active living in the Clear Lake area. We offer walks that will interest all levels of walkers from beginners to advanced. We often break bread together so it’s a good thing that we work out first! Explore and share your favorite areas in the Clear Lake and surrounding areas! If existing walks are not meeting your needs, become an Event Organizer! We are seeking people to be Event Organizers to host one-time or recurring events of different levels and locations. It would be great to have some mommy walks, dog walks, and marathon training walks on the calendar! If you want to motivate yourself to walk regularly, the best way is to commit to hosting a regular walk. Recurring events can be posted daily, weekly, monthly, or sporadically. You will attract regular walkers to your events and get to know some really great people. Check out our calendar! The fitness level required will be indicated on each walk by noting the walk rating, terrain, distance, and time plus some walks will allow people to walk at their own pace. Dog and/or stroller friendly walks will be indicated on the walk posting.
