Houston Active Dogs

Houston, TX

Houston Active Dogs

The Houston Active Dogs Meetup Group is open for active, non-aggressive, well-socialized dogs of all ages and breeds. HAD Members enjoy meeting and getting together with their social canine companions! We meet at various locations - dog parks, dog-friendly restaurants taverns and events - around the Houston-area to allow our dogs to play and socialize, and to give us the opportunity to make new friends within the *HAD* Group. We are dedicated to the on-going well-being of our canine companions through socialization and recreation. Please utilize this site for an up-to-date info on, and listing of, Dog Parks in the Houston-area: http://www.houstondogpark.org/

This meetup group also lists “un-hosted” events. These may be festivals, fundraisers, dog shows or other community events that are several hours long, but you could see everything in a much shorter time. These events don’t easily lend themselves to going with a group and the same could be said of multi-day events. They are listed as “un-hosted” to let our members know about them so you can check them out on your own and go when it’s convenient for your schedule.

Don't have a dog yet? There are many great rescues and shelters in Houston. Some work with any mixed breed dog while others may focus on specific breeds. Believe it or not, there are LOTS of purebred dogs that end up in shelters and rescues.

My favorite local shelter is Friends for Life located in the Heights. Check out their webpage here: https://friends4life.org. While they typically do not take owner surrenders they are a no-kill shelter with a focus on pulling animals from other area shelters that may be listed for euthanasia based on their breed, time at the shelter, medical condition, undesirable behavior, etc.

Katy Outdoor Fitness and Self Defense Study Group

Katy, TX

Katy Outdoor Fitness and Self Defense Study Group
I was part of a practice group like this for several years in NM and it was such a wonderful time of growth for me. Now we use the drills as a warmup at my Saturday jiujitsu class and I'm wanting to start another group for during the week. It's a combination of traditional martial arts and contemporary corrective exercise/ rehab. Basically, it's solo, partner, and group exercises and drills that improve posture, natural movement, breathing and tension, in a learn- thru-play style (experiential learning). We focus on developing the body for effortless, powerful, precise, subtle and diverse movement, and for the psyche to be free of tension, self-pity, fear, doubt, delusion and pride. Increase your capacity for insight and keep your mind free. Each drill can be modified for one's own pace and comfort level. We'll organize the classes to cover a specific principle amd with each, I'll tell you where the information comes from and what if any is my opinion. Open to anyone of any skill or fitness level. No hierarchy, no dogmas, just good honest training. Typical class structure- 10 minute warmup: basic movements and box breathing with walking 5 min: topic introduction 25 min: topical drills- methodology 10 min: topical drills- application 10 min: cooldown My credentials/background - \- Personal Trainer since 2008 \(ACE\) Medical Exercise Specialist \(ACE\)\, Corrective Exercise Specialist \(NASM\) Functional Movement Screen Level 1 \(FMS\) \- Brazilian Jiujitsu black belt \- Texas A&M Biomedical Sciences 2007

Welcome to Kayaking Houston powered by AmeriKen Outdoors! We’re a friendly and welcoming group of paddlers and outdoor enthusiasts who, although Houston-based, enjoy getting outdoors to explore various destinations in the greater Houston area, San Marcos, Galveston, and other nearby destinations in this great state of ours and beyond. We’re fortunate to live in an area where we have many paddling, hiking and biking locations to choose from! We paddle lakes, bayous, rivers, and coastal areas - No two paddles, locations, or destinations are ever the same as our waterways are constantly changing, so every paddle is a new and exiting adventure. We hike and bike many popular as well as little known, hidden gems. All of our Event Hosts & Trip Leaders are ACA trained, and we strictly adhere to the safety rules & guidelines set out by the American Canoe Association (ACA), a National Organization. We are fortunate to have ACA Certified Trip Leaders and Instructors in our midst who share their knowledge & expertise with the group, as well as offer private lessons & paddling clinics throughout the year to those who want to advance and increase their skills and knowledge. Several of our instructors are also USCA certified canoe instructors, adding to the opportunities afforded us in our paddling endeavors. Our paddling events range from beginning paddles to more advanced paddles (L2 +) and we also host social events, camping trips and other outdoor activities such as hiking and mountain biking, so there’s always something available for everyone. West-Side Friends

Houston, TX

West-Side Friends

Are you looking to meet some new friends and have some new kinds of fun? Do you like to eat? Dance? Play games? Drink? Play trivia and watch movies, etc? This may be the group for you!

West-Side Friends is a great way to get together with other people who love to have awesome social events and activities. We get together to play board games, we do charades, we eat out, we dance the night away, and we also play trivia. We socialize both in our homes and outside at restaurants, parks, movie theaters and a variety of public spaces. West-Side Friends is a diverse, fun group for people of varied ages, tastes, backgrounds and interests.

Joining a Meetup group is easy to do. Going to your first Meetup event, especially if you do so alone, might not be so easy. The members of West-Side Friends want you to know that we are a friendly, diverse, and welcoming group of people who share a love of friends and fun. Let us know you are coming, and we will look for you. We highly encourage you to post a photo - posting your photo makes it easier for us to find you, but it is not mandatory.

Our events are hosted by group members who are all volunteers. We welcome your thoughts and suggestions, and we encourage you to share them with us. Of course we always appreciate your help! If you have a great idea, feel free to host a meetup or contact an Organizer to help you get started. Everyone is welcome here.

We would love to get to know you.
Please tell us something about yourself, your interests, what you'd like to do & places/events/activities you'd be interested in.

Some other things we want to share with you:
DUES:
We collect a $6.00 annual due. We offer an alternative method of payment, not through the meetup app, whereby the cost is $5.00 annually. New members have a 30 day trial period to decide if they want to join and become a member. You are welcome to bring a guest with you one time - - after that if your same guest wants to join in on the activities, they need to become a member.

NO-SHOW POLICY:
We have a no-show policy for our events and activities. In our group anyone is welcome to host an event. For those who are attending an event, it is very important to check your schedule and un-RSVP from an event if your plans change. If you do not show up to an event for which you are signed up, or if you cancel after RSVPs are closed, you will be marked as a ”no-show”. You will be allowed three “no-shows,” after which point you will be kept on a waiting list for all events for a year. If spaces open up on the day of an event, you may be moved into that event. But no-shows will not be overlooked. West-Side Friends is a group that welcomes everyone, and we do not like to be strict. But it is embarrassing to have an event at a restaurant and only have 12 people show up when 20 signed up.

I hope after reading all "about us" you'll join us. We look forward to meeting you!

Cinco Ranch Meetups

Katy, TX

Cinco Ranch Meetups

Welcome:
Welcome to Cinco Ranch Soccer Meetups. This group is for anyone who loves soccer and wants to get a quick work out. Intermediate to avid soccer players are welcome. We don't mean to be rude, but if you've never played before or are working on your basics still, please find a beginners meetup. We want to gear this group toward a higher quality of play in order to build community among avid footballers who live for the game. Members will be added in a as needed basis. For the people that want join us; right now we are not accepting new members. You can send the request but the waitlist time is almost two to three months.

Purpose:
We believe that playing on large field 11 vrs 11 is better left for the pros who can really go at it. In our past games we have had 20+ players in the field making the games crowed and reducing the soccer to bunch of people running for the ball . When games are this big they becomes overwhelmingly disorganized. For this reason we champion a 14 or 18 max player game that is intense for all 12-14 players and it is short lived for one hour. This way 14-18 players get a very efficient 1 hour workout and leave the pitch feeling they have played soccer.
Here are the rules and details:
1. We will start promptly; no later than 15 minutes after the start time.

2. No Guests are allowed. Unless approved by organizer.

Only members are welcome for regular meets. This meet is to develop a community of soccer players that eventually will get to know each other. This is a PRIVATE meetup. In case of a guest please contact the organizer before bringing one. He or she will let you know if it is ok or not to bring one.

3. There is no slide tackling, grabbing of clothing/other players, picking, or dangerous play.

Remember that when defending, the object is to get the ball, not the man. So, please keep you arms down, watch your high kicks and stay on your feet. Other than that, feel free to play as hard as you'd like. Violation of this rule will be noted and if the problem reoccurs you will be asked to leave and booted from the Meetup. We all have day jobs, no one can afford an injury.

4. Please be mindful of the RSVP system.

If you are on the wait list or are not RSVPed, please don't come out. Conversely, if you can no longer make it, please unRSVP so our wait listed comrades will automatically take your place. We always plan accordingly to how many members RSVP and it ruins this for everyone if we don't allow for a system that controls the size of games.

5. Proposing other times for meetups.

Feel free to propose other meetup times and the number of members who can attend the proposed meetup. I will schedule this meetup for you if you accept to host the meetup.

6. We want an atmosphere of fun, friendly competition.

We want to make friends and build community, so, it's ok to tell jokes and have a good time, but we're truly out here because we love and want to play soccer. Coaching needs to be in check, some people don't respond well to it. So try to keep you frustrations low and be constructive. If you cause problems for the group with a negative attitude or start fights (verbally or physically) you will be asked to leave and if it happens a second time, you will be banned.

7. No members under 18 allowed.

8. Photo on profile required.

A photo is required in profile to identify you during meets. This way you can Identify us and we can identify you.

9. By RSVP and attending game you acknowledge and accept following statement:

I certify that I have no known medical or other conditions that could interfere with my participation in Cinco Ranch Soccer meetup activities. I also understand and accept that the practice of soccer, both indoor and outdoor, involves certain risks of physical injury. Therefore, I, individually, hereby release and discharge, Cinco Ranch Soccer meetup's Organizers, Co-Organizers and Assistant Organizers from any and all claims, actions, damages, losses, liabilities, costs and expenses of any kind whatsoever, including but not limited to any claims of negligence arising out of, resulting from, by reason of, or in connection with my participation in any of Cinco Ranch Soccer Meetup's programs or activities.
10. Locations meetups.
Cinco Ranch Soccer Meetups do not schedule games in High Schools fields due they are under the KISD. Also nobody can use Cinco Ranch Soccer Meetups for own purpose such like organise games out of the CRSM schedule. All games must be approval by the Organizer, Co-Organizer and Assistant Organizer.
