We can adequately prepare you for Outdoor activities during all seasons. The group is for adults over the age of 18 who would like to participate in Outdoors activities as a group. Any participants below the age of 18 must be accompanied by their guardian. Likewise, the organizers of the group are adults over 18 years of age and are conducting/organizing events on a volunteer basis. No one is legally responsible for any unexpected injury or death during the event. Personal Health, safety and knowledge of the event is personal responsibility of the participant. A group for those who prefer getting out in nature over sitting on the couch to get together with others who also enjoy the outdoors. Beginners and advanced adventurers are welcome, but be sure to check the event description to make sure you are up for the level of challenge and have the appropriate gear. Backpacking is our primary focus but any activity is fair game and we are open to other organizers stepping up to help coordinate. Please reach out if you have ideas and the time to help. Any fees paid will either go directly to the expenses of organizing the group or will be donated to charity.

Our Meetup will include outings such as exploring the western N. VA suburbs, along with nearby outlying areas, activities such as festivals/faires, museums, historical places, historical reenactments, camping/bushcraft, dining, hikes, biking, bowling, seasonal and holiday celebrations, and parties.  Exploring breweries, wineries, bars/pubs, Happy hours, board games/card games, cinema, and volunteering.

Welcome to the DMV Outdoor Walks and Hikes! This is a casual group of walkers and hikers looking for a variety of different types of walks and hikes in the DMV area. From city walks to suburban strolls to hikes out in the country, we have events fitting a variety of different tastes with different settings, lengths and difficulty levels ranging from beginner to moderate. Our more regular walks will generally range from 2-5 miles and 1.5 to 2 hours, with hiking events reaching up to 7-10 miles and 3-4 hours. Come join us as we explore our beautiful area by foot and its many walking treasures!

Would you like to be sitting in traffic on Rt. 28 at 5 pm? Or... what about having a great outdoor workout, fun in the sun, with like-minded folks just like you! Let's get some cardio, some laughs, decrease stress and maybe drop a few pounds along the way! As a bonus, the rush hour traffic slowly fades away, and you can jump in your car with your shorts and T-shirt on, and buzz home with no traffic! Howbout that? This meetup is for people wanting to exercise with a group, after work, outside, during the afternoon rush hour, and at no cost. This is not a business. The organizer is the same as you. The group is led initially by the organizer, but the thinking is we have many talented folks who may want to lead exercises or boot-camp style games. The idea is to have fun and feel that you are actually taking care of your body and mind, and helping others do the same. We meet in free public spaces, parks, etc. that are very close to work and on the way home. All ages and abilities are welcomed, as you will be accommodated to your comfort zone. Example: Someone has a shoulder problem and avoids exercises that focus on the shoulder, but they can do a different exercise instead. This is a new group, so please let us know of your interest as we begin planning activities for this Spring and Summer. We'll keep you posted!

The RJ TENNIS BOOT CAMP® adult tennis program is for all levels of play: Beginners to the 5.0 USTA player. When I was first getting into tennis as an adult I didn't know of all the options that were available for me to play tennis. As for tennis during the winter and rainy spring months, I thought indoor tennis was out of the question. I didn't know that you didn't have to join a club to be able to participate in any of the tennis clinics. Back when smoke signals was the form of communication from one location to another, I didn't know of all the great opportunities to play tennis at various locations. MEETUP is a great way for tennis players of all abilities to find opportunities to play. There are great MEETUP clubs on this platform. 

If you have been looking for a place to play some invigorating tennis and to work on growing your tennis game, may I encourage you to give the RJ TENNIS BOOT CAMP® adult tennis program a try.  Membership is not required to participate in any of the drop in clinics. There are member/non-member clinic fees to participate in all of the RJT clinics. 

If you have never done the RJT class before or if it has been sometime since you have done the class, please ask to get onto the RJT emailing list so that you can keep up to date with the schedule of classes.  And when your schedule allows, please email me to see if there is availability for you to drop in.

This is to be for people who are wanting to get back to their roots and relationships with nature and to harmonize with what nature has to offer and what we have potentially forgotten about it, which for example is optimal health and amazing practical knowledge. While also listening to each others open thoughts and ideas. It’s said that we think better and more clearly when immersed in the outdoors More specifically this group will be quite open to many nature based activities such as walks, hikes, foraging, plant ID, animal ID, picnics, and so on! Another goal of this group is to be uncensored completely. For example, there may be controversial topics, theories, diets, and other ideas possibly spoken of at events and that will help with finding out the truth of our true nature and the world we live in. Furthermore a group existing to establish transparency between us humans instead of lies!

We love the Great Outdoors and explore it through many different hikes, backpacking tours and skiing events.  Join us on the trails in the mountains, the forests and the woods. Breathe deeply of the fresh air and feel nature's healing powers.  With easy banter, camaraderie, some socializing over food and drink, all in our world will be ok.  We value fellowship and camaraderie, practice good hiking etiquette by taking breaks as necessary, and have one guide in front with a "sweeper" in the back in order to leave no hiker alone. We are very supportive of each other, focus on trail safety and practice Leave No Trace ethics. This group is for those interested in monthly guided hikes, facilitated and led by Virginia Outdoors Foundation Bull Run Mountains Natural Area Preserve staff, that focus on different aspects of a Natural Area Preserve and the native plants and animals it protects.
Each hike has a different trail and theme, and are dedicated to fostering the discovery of the natural ecosystems in the preserve. Topics range from education about those ecosystems and the management strategies in place to protect them, to naturalist hikes that are more for observation or hikes geared towards plant and animal identification or cultural history exploration.

Each hike is informal, with a larger focus on building the community of Bull Run Mountains Natural Area Preserve and giving our hikers a broader view of the preserve and the work that goes in to managing these beautiful habitats. All skill levels and enthusiasts are welcome! Come out and explore the preserve with Bull Run Mountains Natural Area Preserve staff!

This group is for anyone interested in volunteer trail maintenance and natural resource management on Bull Run Mountains Natural Area Preserve. This group is operated by Virginia Outdoors Foundation Preserve staff with the goal to maximize our volunteer work and volunteer force to maintain the current trail network and increase the community of people coming out to the preserve and working alongside staff!

All skill levels are welcome and our activities have some range such as: trail clearing, constructing, general maintenance, invasive species removal, building and repairing water bars and various special projects occurring on the preserve! We meet once a month (weather and conditions permitting), and generally work for anywhere from two to four hours.

This volunteer group will not be restricted to trail work - we will be posting all volunteer opportunities and events that are occurring on the preserve! So if trail work isn't totally your thing, no worries - there will be other volunteer events posted here that might be more up your alley!
We're looking forward to protecting and preserving our native habitat and trail network with everyone!
