Mission  What differentiates MOSS from other outdoor groups?  We not only seek adventure but understand that by getting into wilderness the discovery is spiritual as much as physical.  It is our belief that God can be found at work in creation-that there is something within us that reacts to what can be experienced in the natural world.  For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made...(Romans 1:20 ).  Our mission is to facilitate a connection between our experience in nature with the Creator.  A unique way that this happens is during an intentional period of solitude on each event, called Withdrawal Time.  This is taken from the example Jesus gave us and found in the Gospels and is extremely beneficial for modern people who spend most of their time indoors and a significant amount of time interacting electronically.   Luke 5:16   ...Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.The inspiration for the name MOSS originated during time spent in Glacier Bay, Alaska.  Here, glaciers have advanced and retreated several times and with each advance, the ice (like any other natural disaster) destroys and recreates a landscape.  Slowly, with the help of mosses, lichens and other pioneer species, a complete ecosystem is reborn.   "...so favorable is this climate for the development of tree seeds and so fully do these trees obey the command to multiply and replenish the earth. No wonder these islands are densely clothed with trees. They grow on solid rocks and logs as well as on fertile soil. MOSS activities are adventurous and purposefully challenging.  By pushing ourselves beyond what we think we are capable, we gain physical and mental strength and are able to learn to trust God in a unique way.  WHY OUTDOORS? Old Town ABA offer paid meet ups for adults 18+ older (accompanied by caretaker/guardian) to engage in community based activities that promote interacting with each other, and the caregiver fading off assistance to promote higher levels of independence in social skills. Rachel has an adult brother with Autism, and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst with years of experience in direct therapy, teaching, and working with individuals with disabilities age 2 up to age 65. Winchester WHOOHA started as a walking group for women ages 40 and up and over the years we have expanded to include all types of social activities in and around Winchester, VA, Frederick County, VA, Clarke County, VA and the surrounding areas. Each Saturday (and often during the week) we meet at a designated landmark, park, or walking trail, clock an average of 3 miles/one hour, and enjoy the company and conversation of fellow WHOOHAs. Come join Adventure Recreation Group! Get outside, have some fun and adventure - meet new friends. Adventure Recreation Group (ARG) is all about having fun and getting some exercise in the process. We will be hiking, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, mountain biking, camping and cooking outside - riding motorcycles. Other activities can be added of course. It’s all about fun and friendship NOT competition, all are welcome.- In addition to our main group we are also hosting an **ARG Auxiliary** \- which is basically another group within ARG for spouses and others who want to have fun in less physical ways\, such as beading\, rock painting\, card making\, and board games\, and maybe an occasional glass of wine while the rest of us are out on our adventures\. We will be doing something most weekends - weather and situations permitting. This group is still new and I am looking for both members and people who want to help lead and coordinate our outings as Event Leaders and Coordinators. There is also a Facebook group and I am working on a YouTube channel, because it's great to document the "adventure" and gives those interested a glimpse into what they can expect from joining ARG.
