PNW Women's Outdoor Group, Hiking in the Pacific Northwest

Portland, OR

PNW Women's Outdoor Group, Hiking in the Pacific Northwest
PNW Women's Outdoor Group's motto is: Empowering women one step at a time. Our purpose is to bring women of the Pacific Northwest together who are 18 years or older and of all levels of fitness, for new adventures & experiences; to learn new skills; to discover new favorite adventures and to share camaraderie with other like-minded PNW women. PNW women’s outdoor group is all about creating new friendships and encouraging each other to reach personal fitness goals, all while enjoying outdoor activities. These are some types of hikes &/or activities we have hosted since the formation of our group in 2013: Local area hikes through Forest Park, the "4T", around the waterfront & in your neighborhood. We've led hikes and backpack trips throughout the Gorge, Coastal Range, Mt Hood, Mt St Helen's, Mt Rainer, Mt Adams, to name a few. Our volunteer event organizers have also hosted many road trips which included camping/backpacking/hiking, to Canada, Yellowstone, Sawtooths, Steen's, Grand Canyon, Utah's big 5 National Parks, Redwoods, etc. If we're not hiking/backpacking, we're Car Camping, Mushroom Hunting, Wildflower Identifying, Snowshoeing, Cross Country Skiing, Downhill Skiing, Snowboarding, Climbing, Kayaking, Sailing, rafting…. Social activities have included group gatherings, pot lucks, book discussions, park concerts, etc. We have also offered Outdoor Education Workshops, as well as opportunities to serve our community with volunteer events, both indoors and out. We hope to be able to build back up to provide these types of activities in the very near future, so are also recruiting new event organizers. People of Color Outdoors (POCO)

People of Color Outdoors (POCO)
Welcome to POCO! We're a non-profit with volunteers, with a part time staff of one (me). We look forward to gaining the financial and volunteer support we need to develop a team that will serve our community even more. If you would like to help us to get there, click the link, and know that we need you and appreciate your support. **Want to support us? You can contribute** Send checks or money orders to PPF for People of Color Outdoors 8383 NE Sandy Blvd. #435 Portland, OR 97220 **Please introduce yourself and your business so that we can network and support you.** You are welcome here! We're a supportive community, so networking and supporting each other is important to this community. After you join, introduce yourself and your business. Here's my business intro: My name is (Pamela Slaughter) and I am the Executive Director of People of Color Outdoors. If you have a business, you can use the same format so that we can support a community member while getting what we need. **More about People of Color Outdoors**: Portland's BIPOC don't really have a physical community to call home. We do, however, have access to many beautiful and healing places. I started this community because BIPOC so often feel unwelcome at best, and have experienced trauma at worst, in outdoor spaces. This is not a generic group for people who want more diversity in their lives. It's a healing space where BIPOC can enjoy the outdoors together. People of Color Outdoors is a very special community where members can feel safe, welcome, cared about, and truly seen. We are often asked if non-BIPOC parents can participate with their BIPOC children. The answer is YES. POCO welcomes all BIPOC children, and their parents are welcome to bring them. POCO has no activities where children can be dropped off, so a guardian or parent will always participate. We also love when community members bring their elders to outings. While most of our activities involve exploring the treasures to be found near the Portland Metro area, we also network, enjoy indoor events such as holiday parties, and do other things together with the intention of creating a safe, educational, fun, and supportive community. **Want to support us? You can send donations to: People of Color Outdoors c/o Pamela Slaughter 8383 NE Sandy Blvd #435 Portland, Oregon 97220** You can also support us by purchasing my book, which is full of great information and helps to support POCO: https://www.amazon.com/Hi-My-Name-Robin-Watchers/dp/0578722704?asin=0578722704&revisionId=&format=4&depth=1

Portland Travel Fun and Activities

Portland, OR

Portland Travel Fun and Activities
This group is for travelers who don’t want to wait on their friends to finally say “yes” to travel. Life is too short and the world is too big! The trips in this group are usually 90% solo travelers but everyone is welcome, female/male, solo/couple/friends, straight/LGBTQIA+! So let’s travel together with fun, like-minded travelers! If you have an open mind and are kind to fellow travelers, you will fit in perfectly on these trips! The local events in the group are member-driven so if you’d like to host a Meetup in your area (i.e. a brunch, happy hour, travel talk, coffee, etc), feel free to let me know and I'll help you get it set up in the group! **NOTE:** The people on these trips are from all over the States but you’ll always be connected with people from the same city on a trip so you can meet up face to face and get to know your future travel buddies prior to the trip. You’ll also be connected to the whole group via email prior to the trip so you can virtually get to know those that are from different areas. On average, the people on each trip are 90% solo travelers but it’s hard to predict the exact demographic for each trip so please keep this in mind. Feel free to join the Facebook group to connect with past travelers on these trips, see pictures, ask questions, funny travel memes, travel-related articles, etc: [https://www.facebook.com/groups/613025845523107](https://www.facebook.com/groups/613025845523107) The trips in this group are put on by a tour company called Globe Drifters and they focus on small group trips geared towards solo travelers with the mission of giving new meaning to travel by putting the human experience at the heart of their trips. The groups are small, usually with 12 people maximum per trip and about 90% of everyone on each trip are solo travelers so you’re not stuck being the odd man out on trips with mostly couples. You’ll have the best of both worlds, solo travel with the security of a small group of other solo travelers for some company on your adventure! To contact Globe Drifters directly, you can email [info@globe-drifters.com](mailto:info@globe-drifters.com).

Portland Outdoor Yoga

Portland, OR

Portland Outdoor Yoga

Practicing yoga in the great outdoors is a very special and grounding experience.

Join Katie Allen, who completed her yoga teacher training in 2017 at Love Hive, and Kyra Anastasia, who has been leading yoga retreats and teaching full time for over 17 years, on weekday and weekend excursions to practice yoga in the great outdoors. Classes will be structured based on weather conditions (rain or shine just dress appropriately), who shows up and location. This group is for everyone and anyone interested in moving, breathing and exploring nature in a safe and supportive environment.

Please bring a yoga mat (that can get dirty), water bottle, bug spray, sunscreen and anything else you may need when spending time outside. Do let the instructor know, prior to class, if you have a specific injury.

All classes are by donation (suggested $10 greatly appreciated). However, no one will be turned away due to lack of funds. Please note that MeetUp hosts pay fees for this service so your contribution helps keep Portland Outdoor Yoga going. Plus when we give we receive!

Classes will be held in locations within Portland with easy on street parking and restroom facilities.

Come with an open mind and willingness to try something new. You will not be disappointed.

Katie Allen is a mom of two active boys, wife, biker, runner, school social worker and yoga enthusiast.  She completed her training at Love Hive in 2017 and teaches at the Burnside Love Hive studio.  Her backyard Hidden Sanctuary Wellness studio will open in late fall 2019.  Kyra Anastasia is also an Ayurvedic consultant, health and wellness business coach and teaches group classes at Love Hive yoga studio.
