Energize Activities

Madison, WI

Energize Activities

Unlike most meetup groups, this one does not specialize in any one activity. Rather, the aim is to serve as "one stop shopping" for a whole universe of opportunities to get out of the house, DO something that moves the body, brain, and/or soul, and, especially, meet interesting and active people from all walks of life. Examples could include anything from picnics, kayak outings on Lake Wingra, moderate bike rides, and nature walks in the Arboretum to potluck dinners, dancing, and local live music.

As we are casual in our activities, anyone can suggest and run a volleyball game, pickup basketball, a snopwshoes hike or a picnic.  Contact me with a date and time and what folks should bring and we'll get it posted.  I'd also like to get volunteers (or recommendations) to teach the basics of sports and other activities.  For many, it has been years since they played CASUAL basketball, tennis, volleyball, or softball or they may NEVER have done these things.

In that same light, we will be drastically reducing "Bar Time" to perhaps one "Meet and Greet" per month where we can also share suggestions and ideas of events to do.  There are lots of groups  for beer, wine and whatever so if you think drinking is an activity you should look there.

So, whether you're new to Madison or a native simply looking to widen your horizons, whether you're single or in a relationship, whether you're old or young, this group will have something to offer!  We require you to use your real name (first name at least) and a current head shot photo of just you.  You can't be anonymous and social!!   With a current photo and proper name you'll be able to find your friends and, I hope this is few and far between, anyone who "misbehaves" can be immediately identified.

John is the nominal organizer, but he will depend heavily on both suggestions and assistance from the group's members in order to keep a full schedule of activities on the calendar.

Southern Wisconsin Casual Hiking Group

Madison, WI

Southern Wisconsin Casual Hiking Group
This group is for anyone living around Southern Wisconsin that enjoys hiking and exploring the great outdoors! Having just moved back to Wisconsin from Arizona I am eager to share my passion for hiking and outdoor spaces with others. Whether you are newer to hiking or newer to Wisconsin in general and eager to explore, this group is for you! With that being said, more seasoned hikers are encouraged to join as well. The focus of the group is to hold hiking events that are focused on taking things slower and breathing in the natural beauty all around us. We tend to move at a slower pace and take breaks to help encourage the enjoyment of nature and also be able to socialize without feeling physically strained. These are not meant to be fitness hikes but rather an opportunity to immerse ourselves in nature's beauty. With that being said, all posted hikes will be at least 2 miles in length with some changes in elevation so be cognizant of your fitness level before RSVPing. I created this group as a way of exploring all that Southern Wisconsin has to offer in the company of others and at a speed that is...well, more my speed! I live in Madison so events will typically be within a 2 hour drive of the Greater Madison area (though we may plan further outings in the future depending on how things develop)! If you are looking for a more casual way to explore all the beautiful trails across Southern Wisconsin and be a part of building a new hiking group from the ground up, this hiking group is for you! Please feel free to reach out to me via Direct Messages with any questions.

Madison Area LGBTQ+ Hiking & Adventure

Madison, WI

Madison Area LGBTQ+ Hiking & Adventure

Madison LGBTQ+ Hiking & Adventure Group brings together outdoors enthusiasts in our LGBT+ community for outdoor activities in the great outdoors.

This group seeks to welcome all who welcome others with respect, caring, and kindness. Activities and events will offer you the chance to meet new friends as we hike, boat, bike, and kayak locally in Madison. And, we’ll offer the chance to get started with camping, long distance hiking, overnight backpacking, canoe camping, and adventure travel.

There’s a few rules and guidelines to consider.
1. This isn’t a dating group, but we hope you will form new friendships and maybe discover that special person along the way.
2. This group will not offer events that exclude any gender identity or orientation. Please do not ask for an all women or all men event.
3. You’re going to have to keep mostly clothed. This isn’t a nudist group. We’re not prudes, but while we may be naturalists we are not naturists ... at least not when at group sponsored events.
4. Shooting and archery sports are a part of outdoors culture, but not a part of this group. We respect and welcome hunters but no guns or weapons are allowed at our events. If you conceal carry, we ask that you safely store your gun before attending an event. Remember that you retain the freedom not to join this group and be subject to our rules if you feel that your personal safety is compromised by our rules.
5. No illicit drug use during our events. If we are traveling in a state that allows legal weed then by all means burn one down, but please respect the laws of the states events are held in.
6. Alcohol may or may not be allowed at events at the discretion of the event organizer. Please only drink in moderation. Excess just will not do.
7. This group does not provide for transportation to and from events. Contact other event attendees if you would like to carpool. Do not request transportation arrangements from an event organizer as they have enough to do.
8. Due to the risk of injury from the events we offer you will not be able to bring a plus one or family members to events. However, if your plus one becomes a member then they are covered by meetup injury waivers - so encourage your friends and family to join the group.

Madison Women's Social Meetup

Madison, WI

Madison Women's Social Meetup
Madison Women’s Social Meetup is a group of fun and outgoing women who share a common interest in conversation, laughter, and friendship. This meetup is for women-identifying and non-binary people (language will center around "women" and "ladies" but ALL are welcome) who enjoy various activities such as live music, cocktails, dining out, movies, and reading and outdoor events. Whether you’re looking for few a more friends or a great evening out, fun and friendship can be found in excess by joining this amazing group of ladies! Since this Meetup group is designed to be inclusive and welcoming, we will continue to schedule diverse, active, educational, entertaining, and fun meetups. HISTORY: The Madison Women's Social Meetup was founded by Kristin Roosmalen in 2008 as a platform for women of diverse backgrounds to gather for the purpose of developing meaningful and lifelong friendships. In July of 2012, Tracey Hasz, took over as the Madison Women's Social Meetup leader. Her goal was to continue this amazing group's original purpose and see how it could grow even larger. In 2021, long-time member, Sabrina Bodden wanted to ensure the continuation of the fantastic community that has been built, so she stepped up when the call came for a new organizer. Sabrina has always loved working behind the scenes to coordinate fun activities and gatherings, and she is eager to connect with you all and help organize events to enrich your lives. As of June 2022, Stacy Elaine Johnson took over the role of leader of the Madison Women's Social Meetup. When the group began in 2008, Stacy was one of the original members and hosted occasional Meetups. This group was instrumental in making Madison feel like 'home'; it is her goal to again use the group to facilitate friendships and networking opportunities among the members while enjoying all the various activities our city provides.

South Central Wisconsin Walking and Hiking Meetup

Madison, WI

South Central Wisconsin Walking and Hiking Meetup
This is a group for anyone that loves to walk and hike in the great outdoors. I started this group to explore the local trails and meet other outdoor enthusiasts. We have a short, local "after-work" hike about once a week, and an occasional longer (half-day or all-day) hike on the weekends to discover the trails and parks within an hour or two of Madison. We also organize more adventurous hiking trips to Italy, Ireland, Spain, Argentina, Iceland and Slovenia. We like to have picnics, trailside wine tastings, and ALWAYS an apres-hike bite to eat. People of all skill levels are welcome, but you should understand the difficulty level of each hike before you sign up. PLEASE READ OUR FULL DESCRIPTION BELOW BEFORE JOINING. See you on the trails! ° The group leaders and organizers are not responsible for participant/member safety before, during, or after the events. ° The group leaders and organizers will do their best to post applicable park/trail information such as but not limited to: park address, parking or any entrance fees, trail conditions, link to park map, etc. It is each members' responsibility to obtain trail/park information before each event independent of the group organizer. • Our leaders and organizers are volunteers and fellow participants, not guides. You need to come fully prepared with all your own gear, maps, etc. as if you are going out on the trail alone. Don't forget to bring water for all outdoor events. If it's HOT or we're doing a longer event you might need extra. Be sure to bring safety supplies and a trail map. • You are responsible for your own cost related to any meetup activity. (Meals, travel, park entry fees, etc.) • You are responsible for travel to and from our meetup events. The group organizer does not coordinate carpools. However, individuals are welcome to arrange carpooling as desired. ° Everyone hikes at different paces. Please know your limits. Everyone is at free will to start, stop, and turn around when they would like. If you're a couch potato that's new to hiking, perhaps you should start with our short, easy walks, and avoid the "moderate" or "challenging" hikes, lest you find yourself falling behind the others. ° Please bring your pals but have them sign up on this Meetup group first. This insures that all participants receive accurate information about our group and our events. ° We usually hike in the morning starting between 8am-9am, or in the evenings around 5:30 pm. Please be punctual as we will start on time. ° To join our group you must complete the member profile questions and include a current photo of yourself that clearly shows your face. We want to see you, so we can recognize you at our events! ° Outdoor activities can be dangerous and may result in injury or worse. You agree by joining to hold harmless all members of the South Central Wisconsin Walking and Hiking Meetup including our members, group organizers, and event leaders. By joining our events you assume all risk and are responsible for your own physical safety and your property before, during, and after the events. • If you have any medical condition or limitation choose events that suit your abilities. Please insure you have your physician's clearance to participate in outdoor fitness activities. • Always have I.D. and emergency contact info available. This should be on your person (in your pocket or a pack) during all activities. • Meetups may be canceled in inclement weather, closed trails, poor trail conditions, insufficient participation, and a variety of additional circumstances. Please sign up if you plan to attend, and always check for updates before leaving home. • You must RSVP for a hike or Apres Hike event you plan to attend. Be sure to change your RSVP if you find you cannot attend. RSVP's are important as they help the group organizer make plans and reservations based on the group size. Each time you RSVP for an event but don't show up, you will be flagged as a "NO SHOW". After three NO SHOWs you will be dropped from the group. • Do not attempt to promote your own events, other groups, or sale of any type of product or service through our group events or online resources. Our meetup pages and additional web resources are available strictly to disseminate information about our group and our scheduled events. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMERS: DISCLAIMER AND LIABILITY WAIVER Outdoor activities (walking, hiking, biking, running, camping, and additional activities) are understood to involve inherent risks. It is your responsibility to understand risk and take appropriate safety measures during all activities. By participating in this voluntary group, you expressly waive any and all claims that may arise from any of the activities planned, to include travel to and from and during the activity, and to understand the organizer, assistants, and group members do not assume liability for personal injuries, death, or destruction or loss of personal property.
