Golf and other sports Socialising
Hi! Thanks for looking at our site. We are a friendly active group for people who enjoy golf, and sometimes a few other sports or activities (mainly snooker, table tennis, and watching sports). Golf events are mainly held in east Berkshire (e.g. Ascot and Wokingham), north west Surrey (e.g. Camberley and Woking), and south Buckinghamshire (e.g. High Wycombe). Non-golf activities are held in Ascot or Sunningdale mainly (or occasionally Camberley or Bracknell). Women and men of any age are welcome at our events. Having fun doing sports or activities, whilst perhaps making some friends are the main aims of the group - but please see further details below. Please ensure you have a facial photo of yourself when joining so that we can recognise you and welcome you when attending events (note: photos are only visible to members). Hope to see you soon! *Note: New members are generally expected to live within travelling distance of the area defined above. If not, your membership request may be rejected.* If the group is 'full' you will be put on a waiting list and let in to the group when a place become available. More details: * Golf - organised most weekends - usually over 18 holes (but at least once a month over nine). Note: Golf events are largely for intermediate or more advanced golfers (see \*\* below for extra details), and you will need to have played golf before. * Snooker at Lavender Park, Ascot - held up to once a month during the week or at the weekend. Some experience needed for snooker. * Other sports/activities: Table tennis\* is organised occasionally *(\*see below also)*. Other non-team sports, and events to watch sport (including golf, badminton, and racing at Ascot) may also be organised. 'We' can also do basic badminton coaching - if that is of interest contact myself or David. * Please say on your profile which of our regular and occasional activities you are interested in! * ***Note: If you are interested in cycle rides locally, or table tennis in EGHAM please go to:*** [Cycling and Table Tennis for fun and fitness (meetup.com)](https://www.meetup.com/g/cycling-for-fun-and-fitness/settings/basic/) ***. If you are interested in playing bridge locally and online please go to: [https://www.meetup.com/Ascot-Sunningdale-Bridge-Meetup/](https://www.meetup.com/Ascot-Sunningdale-Bridge-Meetup/) .*** There is roughly equal number of men and women in the group, and members are of various ages (mostly from late 20's to about 65). Temporary local residents or visitors to the area from other parts or the country or from overseas are welcome to join if they regularly come to the area or before a visit. If the group is 'full' there may be a delay in accepting you into the group (but this will be done as soon as possible). If you are interested in organising a certain activity please contact Dave. \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- \*: Golf details: Events are organised at Courses to suit experienced, intermediate and improver players mainly. Cost usually £25 to £40 (for 18 holes), and occasionally higher. The area has some attractive and quite challenging golf courses. 'Less experienced' players should come to golf at Lavender Park, Hoebridge (Short course), Billingbear or courses listed below in South Buckinghamshire#. Other courses that we go to are usually only suitable for intermediate or advanced players: including includes Sunningdale Heath, Chobham, Downshire, Pine Ridge, Sand Martins, Mill Ride, Royal Ascot, Winter Hill, Hennerton, Hoebridge (long course), Theale, Sutton Green, Bird Hills, Swinley Forest, Datchet, and Pyrford Lakes. #From 2023 golf events are also organised at the following courses in South Buckinghamshire: Oaklands Park, Huntswood and Hedsor (and possibly other venues) . \*Please check with host for any queries about standard of golf needed at any course. \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- Notes: \*\*: There is a SMALL annual membership charge for 'active members'. \*\*\*: To keep the membership list up to date, because we have a maximum number of members, and possibly to save money on meetup fees (and/or have a waiting list), a few inactive members only who have not paid the annual membership fee may be removed as follows (though you can re-join on payment of the small fee): a) any member who has not attended any events with the group and has not looked at our meetup site for 12 months, b) any member who has attended at least one event, but not looked at our meetup site for two years, c) any member who has attended at least 10 events before and has not looked at our meetup site for three years, and d) any member who has not done any events within their first three years of membership (but who has been looking at our site).

Maidenhead Softball Club

Maidenhead, B9

Maidenhead Softball Club

Maidenhead Softball Club (MSC) is a mixed softball club based in Maidenhead and playing in the Windsor & Maidenhead Softball League. Formed in the late 90's from employees at a local technology firm the club has grown from a single team to a club with 3 mixed teams, one female team and 40 members ranging in age from 14 to over 50.

So if you are looking to get into a new, fun sporting activity. Softball is a fun social mixed team sport and can be played by anyone 14+. No experience necessary and no equipment required, Maidenhead Softball Club will provide the equipment and the coaching to help you get activity and enjoying Softball quickly.

What is softball?
Softball is a social and enjoyable sport that’s easy to learn and play, even for people who are not “athletes” or don’t have much experience of team sports – and the game offers particular opportunities for women.

It’s a lot like baseball in terms of the rules, but because the ball is pitched slowly to each batter (as the name implies!), it’s easy to hit the ball and succeed at the sport’s central skill. The fact that men and women play together in the same team and on an equal level gives the sport a social buzz, and most softball games are followed by sessions at the local pub!

Getting Involved
MSC runs weekly sessions on Friday evenings for anyone wishing to give the sport a go. The sessions vary in location and time depending on the season. During the Autumn and Winter it's at Newlands Girls School from 6pm, during Spring and Summer sessions run from 6:30pm at North Maidenhead Cricket Club.

SMUGs! Local events for local people.

SMUGs! Local events for local people.
**Hello and welcome! Meet local people who like to do a range of things that you like too, in and around Sunbury and the surrounding areas. We generally have a couple of events on each week. If you have any suggestions for events, just let us know.**  **Our member general age range is 50's/60's+ although any age can join.** **We like to laugh a lot, dance a lot (if you can call it dancing . . . ), eat a lot(!), quiz a lot, play sports a bit and generally have a go at anything that's a bit of fun. We try to keep it local but happy to go further afield for the right event. From September 2024, the cost to attend an event as a casual member will be £2, or £20 annual membership for a full member and that's just to cover the running costs (which have gone up 75% this year alone). Casual members just bring it with you to the event or pay using the link on the event page.**  **We've been going since October 2011, events are generated by our members and its been a real laugh so far . . . Come and join us!** IMPORTANT NOTICES:  1\. The Happy Introverts Group

Staines, N7

The Happy Introverts Group
Welcome and Greetings to everyone!! Here is welcome anyone that feels unique and is open to enjoy a family community. When we think of people as being introverted, social anxiety, we often wrongly assume that they are people who don’t like people and often lead to social isolation. This group is created to prove that introvert, social anxious or shy people do like to go out and enjoy activities. There are different qualities and patterns of behaviour that define an introvert or reason behind a person with social anxiety. The most common and how you would be able to understand according to psychologists are: 1\. You enjoy having time to yourself\. 2\. Your best thinking occurs when you’re by yourself\. 3\. You lead best when others are self\-starters\. 4\. You’re the last to raise your hand when someone asks for something from a group\. 5\. Other people ask you for your opinion\. 6\. You often wear headphones when you’re in a public situation\. 7\. You prefer not to engage with people who seem angry or upset\. 8\. You receive more calls\, texts\, and emails than you make unless you have no choice\. 9\. You don’t initiate small talk with salespeople or others with whom you have casual contact\. There are many research showing that socialising it can alter your consciousness and bring more happiness in your life. Here is an article from a research in Germany. [https://www.psychologicalscience.org/news/releases/social-pursuits-linked-with-increased-life-satisfaction.html](https://www.psychologicalscience.org/news/releases/social-pursuits-linked-with-increased-life-satisfaction.html) We will organise events in different activities like games, comedy shows, culture, writing, poetry, meditation, sports activities, and anything else that is creative. I will end with two favourite quotes. "None of us, including me, ever do great things. But we can all do small things, with great love, and together we can do something wonderful." – Mother Teresa "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." – Helen Keller

Guildford Gamers

Guildford, N7

Guildford Gamers
Modern 'euro' style boardgames are a treat, and we're a very friendly group :) **If "boardgames" to you means Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit and Cluedo...** then come and join us for the next step into the world of boardgames. Modern, 'euro style' games are of very high quality, can usually be learnt quickly and generally last for 90mins to 2 hours. What's more, they usually involve everyone all of the time, so you're not sitting around waiting for someone else to take their turn and you won't be 'knocked out' after the first half hour. All in all, they are much more fun and much more accessible than Monopoly and its more traditional counterparts! Although we sometimes play the heavier/more complicated games, we love to welcome new members and players. If you’re a relative newcomer to the boardgaming hobby, get in touch and we can make arrangements for a table to introduce you to the wonderful world of games beyond the traditional “roll the dice and move along the board” examples. Drop us a note outlining what you’ve played before (if anything) and we’ll make sure you have a good time. Some great introductory games include Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride – if you’ve never played these you’re in for a treat, or if you have, come and try something else. **If "boardgames" to you means Puerto Rico, Power Grid, Agricola and others...** you'll already be aware of the sorts of things we play! **Where and when:** We meet on Tuesday evenings at 6.30pm at the [Guildford Institute](http://www.guildford-institute.org.uk/). We have to pay for the room hire, though the space, tables, and lighting are excellent (much better than a typical pub). The Institute does serve some drinks and snacks, but not meals, so if you need dinner you have to arrange that separately before or after gaming. Although we try to start promptly (which means we can fit in the longer games that other clubs can’t!), please let us know if you’re going to be late (after 7pm) and we’ll try and schedule games accordingly – we generally manage a couple of games each week (per table) so we should be able to time it to maximise everyone’s playing time. We also play 10am to 6pm one Saturday each month (check event listings - usually the second Saturday). **Fees**: The Guildford Gamers pay the Institute for the use of a room, so we make a modest charge for attending our sessions. The fee per person per session is £4 by card or £5 cash. Joining the club involves committing to regular monthly payments instead (currently £8, or £4 for weekend-only membership), and entitles the member to a vote on matters affecting the club. Under-18s may attend for free. Students aged 18 or over in full time education with valid ID, and Seniors Citizens over 60, are entitled to a 50% discount. The club is non-profit and fees are used solely to hire the venue and sundry costs (mainly Meetup fees and bank charges). **More Information:** We have a [Guild page](https://www.boardgamegeek.com/guild/294) on BoardGameGeek - the site for all boardgamers! BGG contains lots of information about all the games we play - and many more! We look forward to seeing you :-)

Ladies Who Brunch ...and pretty much do everything else too

Twickenham, 17

Ladies Who Brunch ...and pretty much do everything else too

This group is ideal for women who are time-poor and want to be able to drop in to social meetups with like-minded individuals at similar stages in their lives.

Many women I know struggle with the same problem as they hit their mid-twenties/ thirties with most of their social network spread out all over the country. Many of us have moved from our hometowns, friends are scattered all over the place and long working hours make it pretty difficult to commit to hobbies. This Surrey-based member's group is designed to be low maintenance but there when you want it, as and when you are free.

The group is always open to suggestions for things to do, but will start on the basis of all things from fitness (runs, yoga, walks, gym sessions, dance classes) to coffee catch-ups, new lunch venues, as well as golf, film, fashion and career conversations/ networking. We welcome anyone to host a meetup, so if you'd like to see more events near you or fancy a particular activity, why not have a go? Similarly, If you have any hobbies or passions we could incorporate that you would like to share or teach - we would be thrilled. Just let me, Charlie, know.

Ultimately, this group is a great way to take a moment out of our busy lives, put the world to rights, share hobbies and skills, network, and enjoy those odd free evenings and weekends in the company of some amazing women.

****************************************************

Kindly Note:

- Please ensure first names and photos are included on your profiles for membership consideration

- We hope that this group will be full of fun, enthusiastic members, please contribute and RSVP where reasonable. It can be daunting attending an event for the first time - but please don't be nervous. The meetups are low-key and filled with genuinely amazing, friendly women.

- We welcome women of any age to join.

- Most of the meetups will be free, but to accommodate any charged events or visiting speakers/experts, some of the meetups may involve a small fee or deposit. Charged events include things such as theatre visits, cinema, lectures, exercise classes etc. Any fees will of course be communicated well in advance.

- To cover the cost of having the meetup group (currently £120/year), the meetup owner, Charlie, may negotiate with paid activity organisers for compensation, such as covering their ticket cost - this won't affect members and any fees will be communicated well in advance.

- If you would like to share a paid event with the group, where funds will go to yourself or someone you know, please ask the group owner, Charlie, in advance.

Any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Looking forward to meeting you.

Thanks and enjoy!
