Chickens Touch Rugby (free, all ages, mixed-sex sport)

Glasgow, V2

Chickens Touch Rugby (free, all ages, mixed-sex sport)

Within Scottish touch there is a culture of naming clubs after fierce creatures (Bears, Lions, Leopards etc), so it only made sense that our club would follow this tradition; thus were The Chickens born - the fearsome evolutionary progression of the velociraptor. All are welcome to join the Flock!

The Chickens are open to all people interested in trying out Touch rugby, even if you're a complete beginner. Touch is a very fun and active sport, where in the mixed game, 3 guys and 3 girls play in the same team versus another team. Because it's 6 v 6, every player gets involved and nobody misses out. Being a mixed gender sport, the socials and banter is amazing and it just feels a lot more healthy, encouraging and organic than single-sex sports.

Touch is semi-contact; a 'tackle' can be literally brushing someone's hair with your finger-tips. Because of this, it does not carry the risk of full contact rugby. It is more tactical than rugby union or league, where your body weight and strength can be the winning factor; in Touch, you have to be sneaky rather than built like a tank! Hence why it's so popular with girls and people of all body shapes and abilities.

Glasgow has a very active Touch League, which runs through the Spring and Summer months, attracting upwards of 32 teams a year. After the league is over there are still numerous tournaments across Scotland and Europe to attend. Throughout Winter and Spring, we also have indoor Touch Rugby to keep us fit and healthy for the following year's league.

We have dedicated coaching staff and our team encourages an ethos of friendship and camaraderie, so whether you're after a competitive new sport or just a new group of friends with a shared activity, ours is the right Flock for you!

Glasgow Korfball Club

Glasgow, V2

Glasgow Korfball Club
Hey there, want to try something new, make new friends and learn a new sport? Then come and try korfball! But firstly, what is korfball?   **Korfball** is a ball sport, with similarities to netball and basketball. It is played by two teams of eight players with four female players and four male players in each team. The objective is to throw a ball into a netless basket that is mounted on a 3.5 m (11.5 feet) high pole, with girls marking girls and boys marking boys. Each player is then in a duel with an opponent of the same sex and must use their speed, agility, and skill to break free to shoot and score. This creates a fun, fast, dynamic game. Interested?   We have a series of session that cater to all players, and you will pick up the sport in no time at all! We currently meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays: * Mondays, Hillpark Secondary School from 19:30-21:00. (Beginners session) * Wednesdays, Shawlands Academy from 19:30-21:30 (Mix Ability Session). * Thursdays, Notre Dame High School, 19:00-20:00 (Beginners Session) * Thursdays, Notre Dame High School, 20:00-21:00 (Second Team Training) These beginner friendly sessions will be led by a qualified korfball coach and will cater for players of all abilities. The beginners’ sessions are \*FREE\* to attend. Our Wednesday sessions offer a greater mix of experience and a good opportunity for new players to learn from our more experienced players. Regarding game time, competitive games occur roughly once every three weeks. We currently have three korfball teams, in three different leagues. Games are 40 minutes long, and you will play two games when matches occur. We also attend day tournaments, including Glasgow Korfball tournament, and St. Andrew beach tournament. These fun, chilled out day events are great way for beginners to learn the sport!   Aside from the sport, there are regular socials and meets up, such as games nights, axe throwing, ceilidhs throughout the session!  If you want to come join, just come for session and see what it is all about!

Scottish Hillwalking & Activities Group - Climbing

Glasgow, V2

Scottish Hillwalking & Activities Group - Climbing
Hi there! Welcome to the **rock and indoor climbing** branch of Scottish Hillwalking & Activities Group, *Scottish Hillwalking & Activities Group - Climbing*. If you are interested in hillwalking, you can find our walking branch at [https://www.meetup.com/Scottish-Hillwalking-Activities-Group-Walking/](https://www.meetup.com/Scottish-Hillwalking-Activities-Group-Walking/). We're a  friendly group that was founded to be run by the members for the members. We encourage members to "own the group" and help keep the page active by hosting events, but there is definitely no requirement to do so.  **Rock climbing** We have a dedicated core of climbers. There are regular weekly meetups at the Glasgow Climbing Centre and The Climbing Academy. In addition, we host occasional events at Ratho, the Alien Rock venues in Edinburgh and the new climbing centre Above Adventure in Kilmarnock. The group also holds regular rock climbing meets at local crags when the weather is fine, and snow/ice climbs through the winter. Many of these are arranged on group nights at the last minute, due to our fickle weather, so being an active member opens up more options to you.  Further afield, we usually have an annual bouldering trip to Fontainebleau and a European sport climbing trip. Again, you need to be active members to be invited to these. We are a beginner friendly group and we run several indoor and outdoor introduction events a year for bouldering, trad, sport climbing and belaying. Please note that events involving rope management skills are restricted to members that can already belay safely. **Organisers** The organiser of an event is the point of contact for the event.  Organisers are volunteers who are sharing their own experience with others, so those of lesser experience should be aware of this. The group is completely free to join, but we may occasionally ask for a voluntary £3 donation to help cover the cost of hosting the group on Meetup.com. If you would like to get involved in organising events, please feel free to [get in touch with Mountain Goat via my Meetup profile](https://www.meetup.com/members/8025412/). Look forward to seeing you on a meetup soon, ***Mountain Goat***

So there is no need for mats and no special clothing required. We are all volunteers of a Charity organisation and have many years of experience in offering free Sahaja Yoga Meditation classAll across the globe, many are seeking new sources of energy. Meanwhile, the most **transformative energy** of all is hiding in plain sight, within us. It's natural, sustainable, and infinitely renewable. It's called inner kundalini energy. And everyone already has it — everyone!. All across the globe, many are seeking new sources of energy. Meanwhile, the most transformative energy of all is hiding in plain sight, within us. It's natural, sustainable, and infinitely renewable. It's called inner kundalini energy. And everyone already has it — everyone!. It is often likened to an inner feminine or motherly energy which automatically knows about us and what is needed to help us restore balance and harmony within our subtle being. It works spontaneously, effortlessly, organically and cannot be paid for. The classes are designed to help those attending get into a genuine meditative state, which can be felt tangibly. It is quite effortless and spontaneous. The free classes feature introductory talks, video's, practical workshops and general question and answer opportunities, making them perfect for seekers trying to establish a state of yoga, and they are available across London most evenings and throughout the UK. The idea is that you don't do yoga - you Achieve Yoga! Sahaja Yoga Meditation is a simple, time-honored technique. It helps those who enjoy it, reduce stress and increase wellness and health holistically. It brings better focus and helps people become more centered and better balanced. Anyone can do it. Founded by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, Sahaja Yoga Meditation is a world wide movement for peace and self awakening. All the meetings and classes are free of any charge. Each week we go through simple meditation techniques, often with guided meditations to help reduce stress and achieve the peace of true meditation. We share tips on how to help stay in balance during the day and how to meditate at home. The meditation is based on connecting with the inner chakras (energy centres) and balancing the subtle body. The tradition and aims of meditation are explained which in essence is to be in the present with no mental activity or thoughts about the past or the future. Occasionally there are 1 day retreats to help those interested, deepen their individual experience and hear advice and tips from those who have been practicing for some time. It’s ultimately all about getting into ‘thoughtless awareness’, a natural state of being. 10 Reasons to try-out Sahaja Yoga Meditation in Glasgow in 2023 **It’s easy.** You don’t have to spend years living in the mountains to achieve enlightenment. You don’t have to give up anything or spend weeks in silence. You don’t have to learn mantras or wear special clothes or even try to clear my mind. The meditation simply happens spontaneously. The classes are easy and fun, and as long as you keep up your daily ten minutes of meditation you find you are able to achieve a deep and peaceful meditation on a regular basis. **It’s free.** \ You don’t pay for your meditation. There are no catches, and there are no hidden expenses. If you missed attending classes one week, it doesn’t matter. You just picked up the classes again when you could manage it. It is simply the generosity of spirit of other Sahaja Yoga meditation practitioners that allows Sahaja Yoga to be taught to whomever desires it, at no cost. **You can see results.** \ You feel relaxed and you feel a deep sense of calm. Now you can also feel your chakras (energy centres) and through the meditation techniques learnt along the way you can understand the vibrations of your own energy centres. If you feel unwell you meditate and use the techniques you’ve learnt to heal your chakras, and you can then feel the centres clearing, and as a consequence your health improves. **It’s all-inclusive.** \ All the major religions and their core teachings are acknowledged and respected in Sahaja Yoga. No one’s spiritual journey is right or wrong. And through meditation the wisdom of all the great gurus and saints is easily revealed and understood. In fact, you’ll find that since you’ve been meditating you’ll come to understand and appreciate the teachings of great teachers such as Lao Tse, Buddha and Mohammed. **You’re your own boss.** \ You meditate and introspect at your own pace. You don’t have to keep up with others, or feel pressured into doing things you’re not comfortable with. You are your own teacher, your own guru, your own master. This technique of meditation empowers you and enables you to help yourself. You don’t have to rely on anybody else. Of course, there are many people who practice Sahaja Yoga Meditation who can teach you a great deal about the yoga & meditation and its various techniques. However, all that you need is ultimately within you. **It’s everywhere.** \ Sahaja Yoga is practiced in almost every country in the world. So, no matter where you travel you can always locate a local Sahaja Yoga Meditation programme that you can attend. Whenever you get the chance, and no matter where you are, You try to link up with other Sahaja Yoga practitioners and enjoy a collective meditation. (Meditating with others is a much deeper and more powerful experience than meditating alone.) **It’s portable.** \ You don’t need to take anything with you to meditate: no mats, no potions, no special clothing or books. You can meditate anywhere – in a quiet room or on a noisy bus; at the beach or watching a movie. Thoughtless awareness (the state of meditation) is easy to achieve if you keep meditating daily, and it can be achieved in almost any situation. **It makes sense.** \ Everything you’ll learn will make sense. There is a lot of common sense in Sahaja Yogameditation, and even though not everything was known to you (for example, the chakras and their respective qualities), once you have a chance to learn more about the meditation, it feels very natural and comfortable. **Everybody does it.** \ When you begin a hobby or join a new group, you often find that there are particular types of people who are in the group with you. For example, some groups attract younger people, others older folk; some groups have a lot of people who are wealthy, or people who live in a certain part of town. In Sahaja Yoga you will find people from every walk of life, from every demographic – male and female, young and old, rich and poor, every shape, size and colour, with varying interests, languages and beliefs. You don’t have to be a certain type of person to do Sahaja Yoga meditation. It is one of those rarities: something for everybody. **You feel good.** \ Without fail, every time you sit down to meditate you feel better. Whether you manage to have a deep meditation or not makes no difference, and as a consequence your family and friends are reaping the benefits. **So there you have it......ten reasons......** Pop along to a Free Sahaja Yoga Meditation weekly Meeting
