While we play various sports, there is one common theme in every game we host; there are no set teams from week to week so a member who you were playing against one week could be your teammate the next. This helps foster an environment where we welcome anyone 18 or older who wants to play, whether experienced or just starting out, an environment where effort is valued over talent; all that we ask is that you give 100%. We're looking for people who like to compete but do not go overboard about it. Anyone who harps on other players inadequacies or has a negative attitude if the game doesn't go their way or is just a big jerk should pass us by because we will ask them to leave. Due to the cost of renting facilities and buying, maintaining equipment and insurance, we do charge for the events we post; $12.50 for Outdoor Soccer, and $10.50 for Volleyball. The schools we play at do not allow cash to exchange hands at the gyms or fields we rent so we have a online payment policy through Venmo. Making friends as an adult is hard! But together, I think we can do it. I'm almost embarrassed to say I've lived in Long Beach for almost two years and have done a terrible job making friends. But I'm a homebody that is a beginner at crochet and I think there are probably other people out there who also like to knit or crochet but want to socialize in low stress and smaller group environments. Armchair Strategists

The Armchair Strategists was officially founded in 1975 at the California State University at Fullerton. The club soon hosted the first Orange County Simulations Convention, better known as ORCCON, in January of 1977. ORCCON grew into Strategicon, which eventually relocated to LAX.

The Armchair Strategists began with the playing of Avalon Hill, SPI, and other board wargames. At that time, board wargames had joined miniatures as the 2 main type of games (besides family games, card games, and classics like chess). Since then, the hobby has continued to fragment with Role Playing games, Computer Games, and Eurogames. Meanwhile, many board wargames are now played via the Internet using programs such as Vassal and Cyberboard.

The Armchair Strategists meetup is designed to allow players who want to play board wargames to meet up digitally on the Internet. While their are no meetups planned, it is our hope that board wargamers will connect to play face-to-face games at:

2. Game stores
3. Coffee Houses
4. Residences
