GOLDEN SOLES - an Over-50 Hiking & Walking Group

Citrus Heights, CA

GOLDEN SOLES - an Over-50 Hiking & Walking Group
Golden Soles is an **OVER-50**, **NO DOGS** hiking and walking group. Our events are in **SMALL GROUPS** in order to support the community spirit of Meetup and increase our awareness of one another (safety). As a member, you’re expected to: 1) Follow all safety requests from your Hike/Walk Leader, 2) Be aware of your fellow hikers/walkers, and 3) “Leave No Trace”. \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- Golden Soles welcomes enthusiastic over-50 hikers & walkers looking to indulge in the sport of Social Group Hiking or Walking. We are NOT a speed-hiking group and we stay together throughout the hike, though we DO keep a fair pace going and our cardio pumping! We work up a sweat but we also take the time to enjoy the beauty of our surroundings! Please familiarize yourself with our **THREE TYPES OF HIKES AND WALKS** listed below. Golden Soles honors the concept of Meetup to meet face-to-face in “real time” and share actual conversation with others interested in the sport of social group hiking and walking. In addition to the fitness component of hiking/walking, we also take the time for photo breaks, chit-chat, moments of awesomeness, snacks, and general breath-catching-up! \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- Golden Soles offers THREE TYPES OF HIKES AND WALKS: **1) BRISK WALKS** – terrain is on smooth paved multi-use trails such as asphalt, concrete or gravel with most trails offering a soft shoulder on both sides. Average speed is a BRISK 20 min mile (3 mph) depending on terrain and your Hike Leader. Walks are usually from 4-6 miles. Elevation gains are easy to moderate but generally flat (see elevation gain in walk description as there might be some hills!). There is a short snack break at the half-way point. Drive times 10-30 min locally. **2) TRAIL HIKES** – terrain could vary from paved multi-use trails, earthen trails, granite surfaces, uneven surfaces, rocky creek crossings, dirt roads, etc. Read the Details your Hike Leader has written in the hike description. Most of our hikes also provide map links which contain detailed data about the hike in order to give you super-great info to decide if the hike is "right" for you. Hikes can vary in: A) Trail Rating from Easy to Moderate, B) Length from 4 to 15 miles, C) Elevation Gains up to 1,800-ish feet, and D) Average Pace from 20 to 30 mins per mile. Breaks are dependent on the variables of each hike. Drive times can vary from 10-40 mins locally to 120-150 mins to our beautiful outlying areas. Estimated drive times or Google pin locator links are usually provided in the hike description too.  **3) PHOTOGRAPHY HIKES** – terrain could vary from paved trails, earthen trails, and/or dirt roads. Range can vary from 4-8 miles. There will be plenty of stops for photo opportunities and sharing of knowledge. Varying drive times of 30-120 mins to trailheads. \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- Golden Soles is solely a social, non-professional, volunteer group. Only you can assess your abilities to attend a hike and are solely responsible for your safety and well-being. Please familiarize yourself with Meetup's Terms of Service. \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \-

French Conversation Practice

Citrus Heights, CA

French Conversation Practice
**When learning a new language** you can read books, practice on apps, and take courses on your own. But, what you can't do is practice an actual conversation. That's how attending our Meetup can help us all! :) **Bienvenue/Welcome to French Conversation Practice!** We come together as a group of French language learners to practice speaking, listening, and understanding. We each arrive with various levels of skills and experience, so please be patient with others and most especially, be patient with yourself. Generally, we talk at the A1+, A2, B1 levels, but with time and practice we are improving. If you are fluent in French you are very welcome, but we may ask for your help and advice with French! (We can help you with English if needed. :) We will practice situations like greetings, daily activities, hobbies, culture, family, and special events. By speaking together, we can help each other to gain confidence and improve our fluency of the French language. We encourage you to share with us the things that have helped you improve your language skills. Let's help each other to succeed! If you know of a great website, podcast, film or TV show, please share your great finds at one of our meetups. Most importantly, join us and share your presence! Most of our Meetups will be online, but it is my hope that we can meet up at a local French cafe! Let's help each other improve. A bientot! **Other ways to Practice:** * Netflix lets you slow down French films & shows on your phone, tablet or computer. * YouTube also allows you to slow down the speed. * Try listening to some French music! :D Spotify has the lyrics, so you can sing along. * Search for French podcasts -- there are many to listen to!

Paddle Peddle Powder

Folsom, CA

Paddle Peddle Powder
Greetings! This group is for those with a flexible schedule who plan to be active in all four seasons. Many events will be mid-week. Let’s enjoy the great outdoors together for safety and social purposes while becoming more fit and healthy. We’ll be cycling, kayaking, skiing, snowshoeing, etc. All skill levels are welcome. Making new friends is an added bonus:) Most of our rides will take place in Folsom and other local areas on paved bike trails. We’ll get on the water at Lake Natoma and other lakes off Highways 50 and 80. Skiing and snowboarding opportunities will be primarily at Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood. Those interested in hitting the slopes may want to take advantage of the EPIC pass before the rates go up again on Nov 20. IMPORTANT NOTE: Most snow days will likely take place on MONDAYS and WEDNESDAYS unless another member volunteers to host an activity. When cycling, participants should be comfortable occasionally riding independently if they fall behind the group. Some meetups may start in Folsom SRA where there will be a $10 parking fee. A Golden Poppy Annual Day Pass may be purchased through the Calif Dept of Parks and Recreation. These passes start the clock on the month they are purchased, so buying at the beginning of the month is best. IMPORTANT: To join, your real first name and a face photo are required so we can recognize you at events. This group is currently limited to 50 members in order to stay within the basic plan. Inactive members will be removed to make room for new members. DISCLAIMER: This Meetup Group and its organizers do not, in any way, claim to be professionals or otherwise licensed or certified to provide any services. Cycling, kayaking, winter sports and other outdoor activities can be physically demanding and involve hazards that come with recreating outdoors. By participating in any posted event, YOU ARE TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY AND WELL-BEING. Your personal safety depends on your own judgement and experience.
