Santa Barbara Lesbian Group Meetup

Santa Barbara, CA

Santa Barbara Lesbian Group Meetup

Santa Barbara Lesbian Group Meetup

Building a strong, more visible community one meetup at a time!

This lesbian group is for those in the Santa Barbara, Goleta, Carpinteria and nearby areas.  All ages are welcome, lesbian singles or lesbian couples, and bi/queer/trans women who love women!  There isn't a meetup group here unless you want to drive to Ventura/SLO or like going to large social events held by our local Pride foundation. So hopefully, this more casual group can be for recent arrivals and locals who want to meet new people, network professionally, expand your social circle or just have fun with like minded individuals.  We are the most active lesbian meetup scene in the central coast.  We socialize over happy hour, coffee/drinks, dining, hikes/beach, movies, music, art, games/sports, events, volunteering, and other fun unique/varied activities or entertainment that SB has to offer.

We strive to make all new members feel welcome, so please don't be shy in attending our meetups.  Members are encouraged to suggest ideas for activities and host events on their own if willing.

This is a respectful easy going group promoting lesbian pride within the community.   To be considered as a member please take the time to create a friendly profile and use a current photo to confirm such things as gender and to actively participate in and contribute to the social aspect of the group. :)

All group content, activities, and  individual profiles  are private and visible  only to approved members. Individual members sharing group photos taken in events use their own discretion.

Download the Meetup app but to best see our community log in via the desktop full version.

Please read our disclaimer page. :)  Submitting a profile means you've read and agreed to the terms listed on our disclaimer page.  Please direct any questions to the Meetup Organizer.

Santa Barbara Unicycle Group

Santa Barbara, CA

Santa Barbara Unicycle Group
Our aim is to make sure you are not too tired... (get it? Two tired? Like a bike?) 🤓 Believe it or not, long ago in the mid-noughties, there was a flourishing mountain unicycling group in Santa Barbara. There were regularly 6–10 unicyclists on weekend trail rides. Alas, the group did not stand the test of time. Now we are few. However, we often meet enthusiastic people on the trails that ‘used to’ ride a unicycle and would be interested in relearning. Plus, riding trails on a unicycle is probably the most fun you can have without laughing – and a punishing workout too. So, in the spirit of, “If you build it, they will come…”, and a dose of unrealistic optimism, we present the attempted reboot of the Santa Barbara Unicycle Group. We are also aiming to have the smallest Meetup group ever. So, we should at least accomplish one of these goals. We are not clowns or circus unicyclists, and we do not juggle (though some may). We ride three general types of unis, categorized by wheel size since that, along with the crank length, determines the gear ratio, which in turn, governs the speed and the available torque of the machine These are the three main types (plus one other type) • Mountain Unicycles (Muni) Mountain unicycling is a technical sport. It is all about navigating the most technical terrain without committing a UPD (unplanned dismount). It is not a race and generally occurs at a walking pace. Munis can actually navigate terrain that a mountain bike cannot, due to the ability to stop, hop up on or around objects, ride backwards, etc. Tire sizes are from 24” to 27.5” x 3”, cranks are long to facilitate high torque. Maximum speed is about 6mph • Road Unicycle (Coker) Cokers are for riding long distances. They have a 36” wheel and short cranks. Cruising speed is about 12mph with 15mph attainable at a gallop. I have ridden 50+ miles in one day on this many times. • Flatland Unicycle (Trials) Trials unis have a 19” fat tire and are used for urban riding and tricks. This is the best size to learn anything new on. Everything is easier on a smaller wheel. • Additionally, there are also Training Unicycles (Bicycles) These are what everyone starts off on. They have a second training wheel attached and also have a ‘handlebar’ to aid in steering. Once you become competent on one of these, you can dump it an advance to one of the first three. We intend to post weekly rides which will mostly be Muni or Coker depending on the weather. If anyone has the basic skills and desire to try Muni, they can DM me for some personal mentoring. We will also set up some occasional clinics for people that have never ridden but would like to learn. So, if you find any of this appealing, sign up. Disclaimer: A unicycle is an inherently unstable mode of transport. Gravity is a major consideration. Anytime the tire is not directly under your center of gravity (or very close), that is a problem that will require your immediate attention, or you are going to fall down. As everyone knows, falls can be dangerous and should be minimized or avoided entirely. It is incumbent upon everyone to ride within their own skill level and use their good judgement when riding. A helmet, gloves and leg protection is recommended.

Santa Barbara 20's and 30's

Santa Barbara, CA

Santa Barbara 20's and 30's
**Congratulations, you’ve found us! The most active Meetup social group in Santa Barbara! Established in April 2021, we’ve been steadily growing and evolving to fill the social void of pandemic times.** **It’s hard to make friends as an adult. It’s even harder when we’re two years into a pandemic and the idea of letting new people into your life adds an extra layer of anxiety fear.** **Well, fear no more (I mean, fear a little bit, the pandemic isn’t quite over)--we’re here to answer your social prayers. We are the Santa Barbara & Goleta 20's and 30's Meet’em Ups! The age is a suggestion, but the requirement is you meet up ready to make some excellent memories and hopefully a few friends along the way.** **The four admins schedule a variety of events. Like hiking? We got you. Enjoy food? Who doesn’t! Want to chill at the beach? Us too! Comedy your thing? We both watch and perform, depending on the day! Single and ready to mingle? Let’s chat! We have events for all interests and experience levels. No pressure, low key to high energy, and tons of fun.** **This group was started by our founder when he moved to SB in a pandemic and wanted to get out of the house. He had no idea it would grow to the extensive group it is today, and that we’d all make lifelong friends in the process. Now we’re a 500+ strong with multiple circles of friends making up our overall group.** **Join us! We’re not a cult… we promise ;)** Do you have an idea for an awesome event? Post it in the comments below! We only ask that if something comes up and you are unable to make it, PLEASE update your RSVP (or give any other notification). Three no-shows risks an expulsion from the group :( While this group is for everyone, the group admins reserve the right to remove participants from events and the group for any actions / behavior that is deemed unbecoming. What the Group Will Do for You The purpose of our events is to give you the opportunity to make new friends while enjoying all that Santa Barbara has to offer! If your goal is to expand your social circle, being part of our group can be a life-changing experience. What You Can Do for the Group Bring your fun-loving, healthy attitude. Be committed to showing up when you RSVP and be kind and respectful to other members. We require that your profile includes a clear photo of yourself so others can identify you at our events. Your profile should include your “preferred name” that you use to introduce yourself at events. If you have a common first name, you may find it helpful to include a last initial or last name.
