East Bay Over-60 Social Group

Richmond, CA

East Bay Over-60 Social Group
This group is for outgoing, interested, and curious people who enjoy socializing, meeting new people, exploring interesting topics, and participating in group events and activities. Our get-togethers focus on having great conversations, sharing experiences, enjoying good food and wine, and having fun with other like-minded people. We welcome all people 60 and over, whether singles or couples. Please note that this group is only for those who have been fully vaccinated, and we will meet in person for our events. Our events include potluck dinners in members´ outdoor spaces, and meeting in both indoor and outdoor venues. We welcome other ideas suggested by group members. SOME GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR THIS MEETUP GROUP The only requirement for participation in this group is that members be fully vaccinated. Other than that, the only other rules for members to follow are those that one would expect due to common sense and common courtesy. These include: \-\- Treat each other with respect\, dignity\, and kindness\. \-\- Bring your enthusiasm\, friendliness\, and good humor to our events\. \-\- RSVP when you can attend an event\, and be sure to change it if you are unable to attend\. Since we often have waitlists\, if you can´t make an event\, please change your RSVP as far in advance as possible so someone on the waitlist can attend in your place\. If you are a habitual no\-show \(neither show up nor change your RSVP to NO\) 2 or more times\, you will be removed from this group\. Keep in mind that Meetup sends email reminders to everyone who has RSVPed YES prior to an event\. It's also easy to find out if you've RSVPed for a particular event by just clicking on the attendee list\. So there is no excuse that you didn´t know you had RSVPed for it\. Changing an RSVP is easy; if you can´t manage to do it\, find someone who can help you\. \-\- We prefer not to impose waitlists unless there are real space limitations\. \-\- Because of the ongoing problem we have of frequent no\-shows to our events\, the no\-show policy will be changed\. When someone is a no\-show for an event for which there is a waitlist\. they can be removed from our group after their first no\-show designation\. \-\- For potluck events\, we prefer not to organize food/drink lists\, so bring what you like\, as long as you bring something\.  Everyone is expected to contribute something to share with other attendees\. Food should be ready\-to\-eat \-\- it is not the host´s job to prepare your food or store it in the refrigerator or freezer for you\. And be sure to take your leftovers\, utensils and dishes home with you when you leave\. \-\- Be sure to enable communications on our Meetup page\, so you don´t miss important information such as addresses of our event venues\. We think this may be the reason why some people don´t receive every communication\. --It would be a good idea to have the phone number or email address of another member so that, in the event you don´t receive necessary information from us for any reason, you can contact another member. --For privacy reasons, we will provide hosts´ addresses only to those who RSVP, and not sooner than 1-2 days before an event. We will not provide hosts´ phone numbers, only our own. If you plan to continue attending our events, it would be a good idea to keep a record of our phone numbers. \-\- We provide our phone numbers only for URGENT reasons\. If you have to change your RSVP for an event\, you do not need to call us\. If you haven't received the venue address\, you do not need to call us\. If you decide to bring a guest\, you do not need to call us\. If you feel you need more information about an event\, you do not need to call us \-\- virtually all the information you need is there on the event page or in these guidelines\. We receive all messages from members and that is our preferred means of communication\, not telephone calls\. Also keep in mind that\, usually from an hour before an event is set to begin\, we are generally not reachable for calls or messages\, since we are busy setting up or doing other necessary tasks\. Make sure you have the address for an event by the morning of the day it is to take place\. \-\- We also organize mini\-Meetups\, smaller\-scaled\, themed events that can be created by any member\. These are usually scheduled on days when there are no regular larger events\. They can be one\-time events or those that recur on a fixed schedule\. These events often have no waitlists and are easier for new members to attend\. They are also ideal for those members who prefer meeting in smaller groups\. Individual members decide on a date and time\, venue\, and maximum number of people\, and we post it as an event open to all members\, up to the maximum number that has been set\. Please note that if you want us to post your mini\-Meetup event on our pages\, it must be open to all members \(up to the maximum number\) \-\- you can't invite specific members\. If you are organizing something for particular members\, please do not ask to post it on our Meetup pages\. --We always welcome ideas and suggestions for other mini-Meetups from our members. If there is something that you think other members might like to do, such as a performance, a sporting event, a museum exhibit, or a themed holiday get-together, we'd love to hear about it. It can be a one-time-only event, or one that occurs on a regular schedule. You set the terms, and we'll help make it happen. — To clarify, we make the following distinction between our large potluck events and mini-Meetups: large events are for a minimum of 50 people, and are almost always in members' backyards; mini-Meetups are for fewer than 50 people and can be held almost anywhere. \-\- Members may also organize supplementary events along with our get\-togethers\, such as a wine tasting\, sporting event\, or coffee hour before a large group event\. \. \-\- We are continuously looking for members´ homes\, particularly those with large outdoor areas\, for our large events\, so if you have the capacity to host 50 or more people\, please let us know\. Since we have members from all over the East Bay\, as well as beyond\, we may want to arrange carpools for some events\. --As a thank you to those who step forward to offer their backyards, patios and decks for a large event (50 or more people), prior hosts will automatically be moved to "confirmed" and off the waitlist for all big potluck events they wish to attend. \-\- Arrive at our events when you can\. We would prefer that you come to an event late rather than not come at all\. \-\- We want to minimize the amount of effort required of our hosts\, so please help with setup and cleanup when you can\. It's important that we leave our hosts' homes as clean as we've found it\. \-\- To ensure everyone´s privacy\, don´t provide your personal information when you write in the COMMENTS or CHATS sections\. If you need to contact another member\, click on their name/photo and you will be taken to their member page\. Click on MESSAGE and you can contact them privately\. If a member posts in COMMENTS or CHATS that they need an address for our events\, please provide it only by direct message\. Remember that anything posted in COMMENTS or CHATS can be read by anybody\, including scammers\. \-\- Please make sure your photograph is recognizable\, to make it easier to know who you are and to ensure the comfort and safety of other members\. Every member who signs up for our events must post a fairly current picture of themselves\. Group photos or those in which it is not clear who you are are not acceptable\. If you don't have a recognizable photo and are confirmed for an event\, you will not be able to attend\. We also require that our members use at minimum their real first names — calling yourself "user\+number" or a nickname is not permitted\. — Several members of this group have more than one profile and occasionally RSVP twice for the same event. This can create havoc when managing attendee lists (and waitlists), so please delete any additional profiles. \-\- Keep in mind that this is a Meetup\, not a dating app\. We do not permit predatory behavior of any kind\, including contacting members you do not know\. If you receive a message on Meetup from someone you don't know\, DO NOT RESPOND\, and let us know right away so that that person will be blocked from this group\. Most of the women in this group have received unsolicited messages from "members" who are not actually part of this group\, use fake photos and names\. They are scammers\. DO NOT engage with anybody you have not actually met at one of our events\. \-\- We do not charge any regular dues to belong to this Meetup\, nor do we ask for event fees\. However\, we pay to maintain this Meetup group\, as well as for all paper/plastic serving items for our events\. If they wish\, members can contribute a few dollars to help defray our expenses as cash at our events\, or on the event pages by clicking on "Fundraising\." There is no fixed amount\, and this is totally voluntary\. If you choose not to contribute any money\, it will not affect your membership in this group\. Any contributions are always appreciated\. \-\- Most of our events have one or more hosts or organizers who handle the details of the event\. Occasionally\, when we hear of an event that may be of interest to some of our members\, we post it as "Unhosted\." We provide the details or a link to the details\. Those who wish to attend should post under Comments and arrange to meet others who also want to attend\. But usually there is no official "host" present at the event\. Keep in mind that information given under unhosted events may not be completely accurate\, so all who attend need to confirm the details themselves\, such as opening hours\, availability of tickets\, parking\, etc\. \-\- As our membership continues to grow\, we have new members coming from a wide range of towns in the East Bay\. Initially\, most of our events were in the "680 corridor\," towns like Concord\, Walnut Creek\, Danville\, and Lafayette\. But now we are trying to schedule more events that are convenient to members living in different parts of the East Bay\, including Berkeley\, Albany\, Oakland\, Richmond\, and Martinez\. Suggestions for possible venues or events in various towns are most welcome\.

Bay Area Dancing for Singles and Couples

Concord, CA

Bay Area Dancing for Singles and Couples
The "Dancing with the Stars" series has sprouted new and enduring interest in partnered social dancing.  For more information about dancing in general, as well as  local dance bands and venues (many of which offer classes), be sure to check out the info and links below. If you're new to partnered social dancing, you should know that the emphasis is on "social."   It doesn't matter if you're single, married, or otherwise coupled, or what your gender orientation of sexual identification is.  People invite other people to dance for 3 minutes of amicable connection on the dance floor.  It's all about having fun while getting exercise.  While some people prefer to dance only with the person who accompanied them to the dance, they are in the minority. Every accomplished social dancer will agree that the best dancers are those who dance with multiple partners, which will be evident once you have clocked some hours on the dance floor.  The social dancers' code is to be polite and kind, and welcoming of new and beginning dancers, or those who may not be as skillful as they are, and to remember that everyone was a beginner at one time. Since dancing is a sport as well as a social activity,  safety and etiquette are paramount to assure a good time at a dance and in class.  The best dance teachers will emphasize these areas equally with steps, skill and technique.   If you are interested in lessons, check out the [Info About the Dance Venues](https://www.meetup.com/Bay-Area-Dancing-for-Singles-and-Couples/pages/21264985/Info_About_the_Dance_Venues) link below, and also note that many of the dance events posted here are preceded by dance lessons.  If you like the teacher, inquire about where s/he teaches.  Ask other dancers for recommendations about teachers and lessons. See you on the dance floor!  [Info About Bay Area Dance Bands](https://www.meetup.com/Bay-Area-Dancing-for-Singles-and-Couples/pages/21284443/Info_About_Bay_Area_Dance_Bands) [Info About the Dance Venues](https://www.meetup.com/Bay-Area-Dancing-for-Singles-and-Couples/pages/21264985/Info_About_the_Dance_Venues) FYI/please note -- when someone posts a recurring event on Meetup, Meetup automatically assigns that person (a) as host for the event; and (b) as intending to go.  This may not be the case for the person who posted the event (i.e., they're hosting and/or attending), and it would be too burdensome to update each occurrence of each repeating event to correct this Meetup annoyance.  Therefore, please do not assume that the person listed as "host" will actually be hosting the event, or that s/he will be in attendance.

Bay Area Anything Active

Berkeley, CA

Bay Area Anything Active

Bay Area Anything Active is a Meetup group focused on anything that makes you move! Hiking, bicycling, camping, backpacking, running, kayaking, swimming, surfing, rock climbing, bouldering, bungee jumping, mountaineering, sports—if it can be done with a group, it can be done with BAAA!

Participation
For some events, you may be advised and expected to have a certain level of physical ability and stamina to participate in the activity. There are inherent risks with any active sport or activity. By participating in Bay Area Anything Active events, you agree that you are solely responsible for your own safety at all times. You are solely responsible for preparing for events you attend and having the skill sets required for any activity.

Attendance Policy
Please RSVP to events only if you plan on attending. Be sure to update your RSVP if your attendance plans change, and avoid last-minute changes whenever possible.

3 Strikes for No Shows: Members who RSVP yes and do not show up to 3 events may be subject to removal and/or banning from the group.

Dog/Pet Policy
With the exception of service animals which are always welcome, dogs are permitted at events only if expressly permitted by the event host. For the safety and comfort of members, dogs should be leashed at all times.

Child Policy
There are no special accommodations made for kids (i.e., they need to keep up... although a lot of times we are the ones who need to keep up with them :) It is your responsibility to read the event description and decide whether the activity is suitable for your kids.

RSVP Limit for Some Events
RSVP limits are at the discretion of the event organizer.  Big groups can be hard to manage and at times not all that fun for organizers and attendees alike.  Please respect the RSVP limit and understand that organizers are volunteers - events have to be fun for us or else we have no reason to keep doing this.

Gender/Age Preference for Some Events
Some events may be tailored to a specific gender/age range (e.g., a women-only backpacking trip or a 20's and 30's hike). This makes it easier for members to meet fellow adventurers who share similar interests. BAAA was founded with members of a 20- and 30-somethings hiking group in the East Bay, but we have since expanded to become a comprehensive activities group.

Fee-Based Events
Most events are free of charge, and our preference is to keep them that way. Meetup events with fees are allowed only when the fee is justified (to cover reservations, gear rental, etc.).  Event hosts are not compensated for their time organizing and leading events; they are 100% volunteers.

No Soliciting
Please do not promote your business/ product/ service/ fundraiser or fee-based event of any kind to group members or organizers. This restriction includes yoga classes, climbing workshops, salsa lessons, run/walk fundraisers, product/app launches, etc. Anything and everything that is promotional is not appropriate for this group.  We encourage all members to suggest and host events, but if you keep suggesting promotional events or discussions you will be banned from the group.  The group does not accept sponsorships and does not promote any products, services, or causes. There is absolutely NO marketing to members—no exceptions. Organizers will not answer soliciting messages.

Questions?
If you have questions about an upcoming event, please contact the event's host/organizer.  If you have general questions about BAAA, please contact Alina. Thank you!

WingChun Berkeley

Albany, CA

WingChun Berkeley
WingChun is a Chinese martial art and form of self-defense, originally developed in southern China approximately 300 years ago during the period of civil war that marked the transition between Ming and Qing Dynasties. It was synthesized as a compact form of Kung Fu to exploit weaknesses inherent in the other combat styles of their time and give an advantage to smaller fighters, who did not have the benefit of size and strength.  This system was well-guarded and quietly passed on to only a few, very dedicated students, then evolving as it was adopted into various groups.  Nowadays, it gained popularity all around the world through the Bruce Lee or through the Ip Man series of movies. The techniques of WingChun are very straight-forward, practical, and based on principles rather than displays of athleticism or power. It can be practiced by people of all sizes, ages, and degrees of athletic ability.  Training quality, consistency, determination, and experience are more relevant to your advancement in WingChun. The majority of martial arts, in the modern world, have been converted to sports. In combat sports, techniques have been intentionally re-designed to fit the context of competitions.  The training methodologies are to win competitions within the given rules, not to cause the injury to the opponents. Our training is highly tuned into the context of self protection; we practice to end the conflicts as quick as possible.  [WingChun refines your mind and body](https://iawberkeley.com/2018/07/29/wingchun-movements-and-mindsets/). Life requires fast decision-making everywhere under the uncertainty and pressure. WingChun teaches careful observation and precise perception of reality as well as trust in our intuition and guts to act based on our experience. Also in practice to work relentlessly towards goals. In effect, we can become more real, brave, passionate and ambitious. It leads us to live strong and free, full of energy and joy. The true fun of life is this continuous progress to realize how far out we can reach our potential. " California Camping & Hiking " Bay Area BackCountry Buddies

Albany, CA

" California Camping & Hiking " Bay Area BackCountry Buddies
Main Meetup Events Calendar http://www.socialfundation.com We're pretty much the most active backpacking specific group in the bay area.  From beginner to expert our people are the best.  We get outdoors a lot but also have non-backpacking social events.   In the summer it's all about the backpacking and in the winter we try to have a range of activities from snow camping to resort skiing days.   So if you want to meet other outdoors enthusiasts, whether you're a hardcore hiker or an aspiring novice, sign up.  This group has a long and storied history. And the story continues. Be part of it. Have your tales of debauchery mingle with ours. The mission of this group is its name. This group aims to be positive and safe environment for members to experience things that, for whatever reasons, you longed for but weren't able to do before. The Bay is vibrant and diverse city. We have the opportunity to explore it and make new friends while doing so. Meetup is one of the few (maybe only) websites dedicated to having it's participants get offline and do things in reality. EVERYONE IS WELCOME INTO THE GROUP! Think of this group as Summer Camp, . . . but for adults. Most events are free. There are a few that cost. Those do make enough to cover the Meetup fees. We do extend out to lots of other organizers, as a good community is made of many and diverse voices and people. If you are interested in posting an event send a note and we will see what can happen This is a place where everyone can just come as they are, and mingle with people who are like them AND who are NOT like them. We are not limited, restricted or exclusive by age, gender, gender preference, national origin, relationship status, etc. To put it more simply this group is open to all. All ages, all genders, all sexual orientations, all types - And that includes you!!! There are plenty of meetups that exclude based of one reason or another. Or there plenty meetups where people self segregate. This meetup is neither of those. Diversity is coveted here. People are not monochrome and neither are we. You will fit in perfectly and find a lot of folks who just like you in certain aspect, and differ from you in others. It's the good kind of variety of life. Some events on this group may specify limits at times. Those will be clearly noted when needed. At times they may be age delineated, or even gender related. Limits are placed often as a means to control size. The event can then be repeated/recycled with a different limit range. If there is an event you really wish to go to with a limit, . . . please contact me. You can be the impetus and the catalyst for the next event in the different limit/range. Other times the limit can be waived or bent as needed. Challenge yourself and importantly, BE yourself and expand your horizons and comfort zone. Let your hair down! Go wild! Be open minded and be non-judgmental. The group is based off quality events to bring people together from positive social interaction. Anyone who wants to explore an alternative, bohemian, experimental, strange, obscure, weird, wild, absurd, bizarre, avant garde, unconventional, wild-at-heart side of Los Angeles is welcome! In the interest of making events successful . . . We will spread events across other meetup groups to bump up attendance. For as you know, . . . sometimes people don't show up. Some Organizers get really bent out of shape about that. I do however know that life happens. Even if it's 10 mins before the event. Just change your rsvp. No worries. No harm-no foul. There is not any sort strikes or penalty system, and there is nobody keeping score. The exception will be if it is listed as a "no flake" event. On those you gotta give good notice of changes. It's about fun and community. What I have found is that by being mellow and and having good events more show up. We tend to have 80% or more attendance. I approach with compassion. So if you don't make one event or another. . . try and make it to the next, or the one after that. When you do make it, .. . . we will be glad you are there and all are welcome. Here are the basics of group rules. Do NOT contact members who you have not met in real life. Avoid Put Downs. Speak For Yourself. Listen To Others. You Have The Option To Pass. Expect Unfinished Business. While there are flexible attendance rules. There are sex/gender related rules. As a guideline do not message people you have not met in person. This is not an online dating place. Ladies: If a guy messages you please contact me. There have been problems with that happening over meetup in general. It's just not cool. Meetup is about real life and not virtual. Guys, . . . get off your computer and come to an event. Say hello in person. Smile, . . . be personable and decent. And just be there to get to know people and make friends of whatever gender. You can always use new good friends. And this is one way to make/meet them. Wingman tactics and and Pickup artist tactics are similarly not allowed in this group. Organizers of another group that are not an organizer or host here are also not allowed to solicit members. The rest of the rule are just good ways to live and be. These rules apply here AND on like-minded sister groups. So it also applies on the following Photo and Name: You are allowed to join with whatever name and whatever photo. HOWEVER the main organizers may request you change either name or photo a their discretion. Names that are products, promotional, advertisements are red flags that will be requested to change or be removed. If you are using a photo that is not your face, a current face photo may be requested. Here is the rule of thumb. Fake name and fake photo will be requested to change to a real photo and a real name or face removal. Real photo and fake name is usually fine. Fake photo and real name is usually fine. IF you need to maintain privacy of both then contact the main organizers and just ask. That's all it takes usually. All organizers on the group do have different set of rules. The rules simplified. • No Emailing (do not use the bulk email feature in any way) • No outside links • Great Copy • Great Pix • 4 weeks notice is best. • List any money costs in the first 2 or 3 lines. Not too many rules. Not too complicated. They all have to do with respect for the membership. Let's talk a little more about age: Are you in your 20s 30s 40s 50s 60s 70s 80s 90s ? (btw some write 20's 30's 40's 50's 60's 70's 80's 90's ). I am often asked "What age range is this group?" 20 40 maybe? 30 50 perhaps? Or even 60 70. Forties ( forty's forty ), Fifties ( fifty's fifty ) of sixties ( sixty's sixty ) or older does matter. 24-39 3000 20+ 30+ 50+ 60+ & under or over. We are just aiming at good community. Yeah, . . . All that is great, . . . But I still have one question, . . . What age is your group? Age is a state of mind. And our state (this group) has no borders. If so then you may be looking for us! We do NOT discriminate by age, sex or gender, gender preference, origin, religion, belly button lint, etc . . . . Do you enjoy friendship, activities, key networking, casual socializing, parties learning, sharing, inspiration? You do!?!?! How about personal and professional development with active nerd adult ( adults ) who like adventure ( adventurers, adventures, adventurous ) stuff that may involve silly dance game ( games ) and cool nerds with addicting, amazing fun? Great!!!! There will be sweet things to discover while engaging in retro revival underground unique geeky exploration of fringe play plus speed punk quirky sophisticated spectacular geek socials with high society making savvy friends. It will be an offbeat odyssey of an outing to nerdy paradise and we will party at random places (see locations below). Come and share fine no flake ( flakes ) fun that is free or inexpensive and goes late into the lovely night. Left, right or center, we will live life together and enjoy. We do some sports related events. Are you interested in teammates players for your sport or hobby? Many are likely singles and looking to date in one way or another. Going on dates or dating is fine. But it does NOT happen via using the group like Tinder, Match.com, POF or eharmony. This group is about real life. So online messaging of people you have not met in real life is not allowed. Why such a rule? Because it is heterosexist of you to assume that all people are interested in you. Like is says above there are married or those in committed relationships. There is is also the range of sexual preference in the group. Gay, lesbian girls lgbt lgbtq queer bi poly swing swinger swinging and any sort of variation such as transsexual and transgender. We do accept all. Even rs40 and rso40. We do NOT accept SpeedDating or Speedating or whatever you call it. It's forbidden. Whoever you find cute, hot, sexy or find attraction to that comes in person. Plenty a match and romance or spark may happen. You may find your love (or lover). But you also may just make great friends girlfriend ( girlfriends ). It's just down to good decent social. Conscious communication and engagement that makes for self-improvement and improvement of others. Conversation and network or networking of professionals. That's just smart l33t leet api entrepreneur groupting that will lead to inspirational international consciousness. We just added Game of Thrones GOT and The Walking Dead viewing parties. Canoe and Kayak Paddlers

San Rafael, CA

Canoe and Kayak Paddlers
With Canoe and Kayak Paddlers strangers are welcomed as friends and friends become like family. We are the only FIVE STAR rated paddling Group in the SF Bay Area. Our group is good for recreational canoe and kayak paddlers. We feature paddling with friendly folks once you know the basics. However, we are not a guide service and do not offer lessons, therefore you must already have basic paddling skills. We charge an annual $15 fee. Our trips are intended to be friendly and social for people who have paddling experience. Trips vary from easy, appropriate for almost anyone, to trips which require a moderate level of physical fitness and Intermediate boating skill. We seldom do "advanced" level trips. However, all paddlers must expect and be prepared for sudden changes in weather and currents which are common in the SF Bay Area. Most trips are appropriate for canoes and kayaks. Canoes of 15 to 17 feet are common and touring kayaks not less than 12 feet, our trips do not allow folding boats, inflatable boats or SUP's. Our trips are four to six hours long and between six and twelve miles in length, and include a lunch stop along the shore. We paddle reservoirs, lakes, rivers, SF Bay, creeks, sloughs, and estuaries. To join us you need basic skills including getting in and out of your boat, paddling in a straight line and being able to steer and control your boat in windy conditions. You should be in normal physical condition, able to paddle at an easy pace for an hour or two at a stretch without a real break. You need to be able to climb unassisted in and out of your boat in a variety of places, including steep banks, high docks, etc., and you must be able to keep pace with other paddlers. Canoe and Kayak Paddlers is totally non-commercial. We are not a guide service. All activities are simply opportunities for boaters with appropriate skills to paddle together. The trip coordinators *are not* required to have training in boating or outdoor safety or carry emergency equipment. We are not experts. All water sports are potentially dangerous. Participants must assess the appropriateness of their own physical condition, skills, and equipment for any activity, and make their own decisions about safety. If you are not sure if your skills and equipment are appropriate for a trip discuss it with the trip coordinator before starting on a trip. We recommend that all paddlers take lessons in boat handling, safety, and rescue. A life jacket must be worn while on the water. Our goals: ·        Share paddling as a safe, enjoyable, and congenial experience ·        Introduce members to new places to paddle ·        Create opportunities for members to increase their paddling proficiency ·        Offer a central communication hub through our website ·        Provide social, informational, and recreational gatherings associated with the sport of paddling
