For Chicks Who Dig Sports!

Orlando, FL

Ladies, if you are a fanatchick (sports fanatic + chick), this group is for you! Whether you like to watch games or you are an active woman who likes to play sports (or desire to try new sports), we will have plenty of gatherings for you to find like-minded women. Network, make new friends, grow your social life and maybe even make some business connections, all at the same time!

*DISCLAIMER - some meetups posted will be fundraisers for my charity youth program called 'She Wins!'.  I launched this in Orlando to get girls involved in sports. I have a mentoring program where we discuss various topics and then we introduce them to different sports. Through sports participation and having a forum to speak and discuss their curiosities, our girls will flourish, develop confidence and self-esteem and hopefully make smart life choices.  To learn more about She Wins!, please visit http://FanatchicksCare.org

SouthWest Orlando Tennis (SWOT)

Orlando, FL

SouthWest Orlando Tennis (SWOT)
Hello my fellow Central Florida tennis players! Now there is a *better* way to meet local players looking to hit some balls - **SWOT** (Central Florida's *first* and finest tennis Meetup group!)  Guys AND gals are encouraged to join us for some casual, social and even competitive tennis fun! I started 'SWOT' to give players of all levels a flexible and fun format, to find comparable partners who'd like to play a few times a week, without the need to join or interfere with league play. All formats: Singles, doubles & mixed doubles will be offered! (we'll try to mix it up during our Meetup nights.) Let's just have some fun smacking the yellow fuzzball around!! Post-tennis, we'll often visit the Burntwood Tavern for dinner and drinks with SWOT, all are welcome to join us!   Happy Hour specials from 9pm - close to accommodate our group, including drink specials and 50% off all appetizers and flatbreads. Regardless of your tennis skill level, if you're a tennis enthusiast, looking to play a little more, or just wanting to meet some wonderful new people who just happen to enjoy the sport as well - We'd love for you to join us! :) We originally wanted to cater especially to those players in the Southwest Orlando area, but we now have members from all over Central Florida (and beyond!)  So regardless of where you live, if you have a passion for tennis, you're invited to become a fellow SWOTTER!! We look forward to seeing *you* on the courts with us soon! \*SWOT Membership is FREE!! **For additional info, please review our [Membership Guidelines](https://www.meetup.com/swot-tennis/messages/boards/thread/50827228)!**

Boomers ..... Just Want To Have FUN!

Orlando, FL

Boomers ..... Just Want To Have FUN!

This is a group for baby boomers committed to having FUN! If you're a part of the baby boomer generation (born 1946 – 1964 or 50+ to keep it simple), and enjoy making new friends, mingling and socializing, then join us in this supportive community of thriving boomers. Most of our events are in the metro Orlando area.

The goal of this group is to promote and support an active lifestyle and to facilitate mingling, socializing and having fun with our peers. We do utilize name tags at most of our events. Perhaps you enjoy a sport or hobby and would like to partner with others to share your passion. Members will be encouraged to connect with other members, make new friends and organize activities. After all it is the event hosts and their activities, the organizers and the members that make for a successful group. We hope our members develop & foster lifelong friendships and have the opportunity to meet others with shared interests, hobbies and passions.

This is your group, if you like to do fun events but just don't enjoy doing them by yourself all the time. Invite your friends to join. It means more activities, more events and more participation. The more members - the more fun and we're all about FUN in this group! Let's try new things; ideas are welcome and encouraged.
I look forward to being a part of a community of active, awesome, Boomers …that just want to have FUN!

Name Tags

It is our intent to utilize name tags for most of the social events of the group. It helps the host welcome the members to their event and helps our members find the group within a venue. It also aids our members in forging new connections and friendships, especially for our new members, it helps in getting to know our fellow Boomers.

SOLICITATIONS

Boomers....Just Want To Have FUN! is not a business or for-profit networking group. Solicitations (verbal and/or written) are strictly prohibited within the group. I do not want the perception of anyone making money off the group. It is my intent on trips that are organized by and/or hosted by travel agents, that our members should be allowed to go on the trip or event using their own travel agent and to get the best deal possible in their eyes. Realize though, in evaluating "the best deal", that the host/organizer of the trip may get extra perks that may not be available to those that do not book using them.  Travel agents that post up trips, for our groups' benefit, do get compensated with commissions and/or perks by the travel companies. It is a trade-off we feel is worthwhile for our group in order to travel together and due to the complexity of organizing trips for a group. Especially given that our members can use their own travel agent.

POSTED PHOTOS

Your posted photo and answers to profile questions provide your introduction to other group members. A posted photo of yourself is required. It should be a clear recent recognizable head shot of you looking into the camera by yourself. Your picture must remain on your profile at all times. This helps the event hosts and other members put a face to your name. It also cuts down on the number of scam members to our group and helps the event hosts and organizers, find and identify our members looking for our group within an event. I will usually approve a request to join the group without a face picture but only for a period of 2 weeks in order for the member to comply. Some members may not know how to upload a picture to their profile.  Most events will have photo's of the attendees posted as a photo to that event. If you do not wish to have your picture taken, please notify the event host of this.

MEMBER PARTICIPATION AND ORGANIZERS

Adult Boomer's only. No children are allowed at an event even as a guest of a boomer. This is an adult only group within the boomer age group. Sometimes we do joint events with other groups that do allow children. They are few and far between, but all of our events will be for adults only.

Our activities will reflect the interests and imagination of our members. The success of “Boomers ... just want to have FUN” is driven by the enthusiasm and engagement of our members and especially the hosts. We need and welcome ideas and suggestions for activities. We also need organizers to plan, schedule and organize activities.

We want to post "active" events such as biking, hiking, kayaking and so forth. These events require you to know your own health status, limits and abilities. Personal protective safety equipment is always encouraged. None of the event hosts are experts or teachers in any of these activities. Participate at your own risk. All such events will require participants to sign a blanket waiver of liability that protects the group owner (Thomas Benson) and organizers/hosts of the event, prior to engaging in the activity.

NO NO'S

I will not hesitate to remove a member from the group..... if they post negative personal comments about another member for all to see or if a member harasses another member through the group. If I receive multiple verifiable complaints about an individual making hateful or hurtful or insensitive remarks about a Boomer member or groups of Boomers, that action will warrant removal from the group upon a majority vote by the Organizing Committee. I would much rather have the offending person removed from the group than to have Boomers not show up to events because the offending member is attending. Constructive criticism about the group is ok (I am not hyper sensitive about that) but no comments of a personal nature. Know your audience and realize by this age we ALL come through life with issues from our life experiences. Good and Bad. Be self aware and be sensitive to that......for everyone's benefit.

No exclusive events! No women only exclusive events or men only events. ALL of OUR events will be open to ALL of our members, even if they will not appeal to all of our members.

No political events - everyone has their own political opinions, which is great, but any political event nowadays is going to alienate a certain element of our Boomers. In order to avoid that and the emotions that it illicits - we will have no political events period for that reason.

Single Adult 31+ Volleyball - LDS & Friends

Orlando, FL

Single Adult 31+ Volleyball - LDS & Friends
***Volleyball Rules and Expectations - Updated January, 2024*** **We have a lot of people who want to play! Please read the following updated information...** **From now on you must be on the "Going" list in order to play. If you are on the list please don’t be a no-show!** **If you can’t make it please cancel 24 hours or more before the event. I know sometimes there are emergencies. Emergencies should not be a regular occurrence.** **If you don't remove yourself from the list and don’t show up, I will remove your name from the next event. You can re-sign, but you will be at the end of the waitlist.** **IMPORTANT: Don’t come if you are on the waitlist. You must be on the GOING list to attend.** **No guests from here on out–I have turned off this feature on the app. Tell your friends how to sign up. I will delete all remaining guests on Feb. 5th.** **No trading spots with your friends. If you can’t come, take yourself off the list. No, your friend cannot come in your place. They will need to wait for their turn on the waitlist.** **Tournament Nights - 1st and 3rd Monday of each month!** **Group members voted to have tournament games twice a month.** **If you want to be a team captain please put your name on the list at volleyball night. I will have a clipboard there for signing up. I will rotate names equally.** **Expectations for captains include the following:** * **Be familiar with all or most players in order to choose balanced teams.** * **Lead by example with good sportsmanship.** * **Invest in your team by being positive, helping with skills if needed, guiding players in how to work as a TEAM… not just get the ball over.** * **Monitor so that players are not playing others’ positions, staying in the setter position, or causing other problems.** **All players:** * **Please speak up for yourself if someone is playing your position or asks to stay in the setter position. Graciously tell them no.** * **Play your position! Sometimes it can be hard to know whose ball it is–just be aware of where you are, call the ball, and back off if someone else calls it so we can avoid injuries.** * **The setter (center front player) gets the second hit. If they need to, they should call HELP. Otherwise, let the SETTER take the second hit.** * **NOTE: Be clear when you call GOT IT or HELP. It gets loud in the gym and can be hard to understand what people are saying.** * **Call out the score clearly BEFORE serving.** * **No spikes or high-speed power hits, except for serves.** * **No bad language, including cursing, swearing, or speaking any form of God’s name casually or disrespectfully.** * **Stay alert, play your best, have a good attitude, and be respectful of all players.** **We will never all agree on every issue. Please be a good sport and help keep volleyball fun, safe, and awesome for everyone.** **Thank you for being part of this group!!! Please always feel free to talk with me if you have input, questions, or concerns.** **Karen Wernli** **801-425-7095** **[karenwernli@gmail.com](mailto:karenwernli@gmail.com)** **This event is sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. If you are interested in attending church I can help you find the closest chapel to you (we have several in the Orlando area). Or you are welcome to attend with me–I go to the chapel at 4020 S. Bumby, Orlando (Sundays at 10:30 am). You are always welcome!** **PS - Thanks to all who have paid me for their share of the Meetup fee ($5 once every six months). I appreciate your contribution!!!**
