3 Steps to Spanish Fluency: Online Workshops Boston
This group is for people wishing to learn Spanish to a high level of competency, especially if they have had trouble progressing in the past and are looking for a new way to improve. The group workshops are hosted by Francis Collier and are free and open to anyone interested. More information on paid lessons is available at the end of the workshop for anyone looking to improve further. The 3 Step Process: Step 1: The 12 Sounds. In Spanish there are 12 new sounds that do not exist in English. The first step in the process to fluency is to learn ALL of these sounds CORRECTLY. If you don't know what all of these sounds are please be advised Francis Collier will take everyone through them in the workshop. Step 2: Native Phrases + GVC (Grammar, Vocabulary & Comprehension). Very often Spanish learners when presented with a native level conversation find it sounds "too fast" and they can't keep up. Commonly there are two things that are going wrong in this step. Reason 1. The 12 new sounds in Spanish have not been learnt and therefore the fundamental building blocks required are not there. Reason 2. The student cannot recognise the Native Phrases used as they do not know them and have not practised recognising them. This can often happen because the student is still translating in their head from English. What are Native Phrases? They are combinations of words that are used so commonly in a language that they are squeezed together and said very quickly. Think of the way someone might say “What do you want?” to their friend if they are in a drive through. It’s more like “wadayawan?” It’s exactly the same in Spanish, there are many native phrases that native speakers say every day and practising to recognise these at speed is crucial in order to understand real conversation. Note: GVC (Grammar, vocabulary and listening comprehension) are also focused on in this step. Step 3: Real Conversations at Native Speed. The third step is to practise in a conversation at REAL Native Speed. Imagine learning to play baseball by spending hours reading books on baseball, watching and analysing old games but never playing a real game at real speed. How long do you think it would take to get good? This being a bad idea seems very obvious in the example above but this is what so many students do with apps and books and movies when learning a language and many of them never reach fluency with this approach. So if you are interested in coming along and learning more about the process to Spanish fluency and how to improve your Spanish then please sign up for one of our workshops. To sign up for the workshop go to the event page and click the on "Attend" button for the workshop link. Good luck and we hope to see you soon. As per meetup.com policy: Attendees under the age of 18 must have a guardian with them.

C&C (Boston Cards and Conversation)

"You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation."

WHO WE ARE

C&C (Boston Cards and Conversation) is a social networking community in Greater Boston. Founded in 2009, our goal is to get together to do different types of fun activities as a way to socialize and meet new people. We have an active membership that is amazingly diverse, composed of men and women of all ages.

WHAT WE DO

Most events allow members to mingle while playing card games, board games and party games. However, we also play outdoor games and sports too -- like miniature golf, laser tag, pool, bocce, geocaching and more! No matter the event, our members benefit by making connections on a personal and professional level while doing fun activities. Nothing like a game of Apples to Apples to get the conversation rolling!

WHERE WE MEET

We hold about a dozen events a month at locations in the Greater Boston area. We try to make most of our events T-accessible. Some our most common locations are in Boston, Somerville, Medford and Waltham. Outdoor or non-board game events are usually held north of the city.

WHAT MAKES US SPECIAL

Our members say that we provide some of the best events on Meetup. Our events tend to be well organized into order to provide our members a unique experience. Because of social networking focus, we require that all of our members participate in our community. Membership requires approval, and all members agree to follow our group membership policy before joining.

As of July 1, 2012 -- For security reasons, all new member applications must include a face photo of the member (no logos, designs or pictures of cats please!). Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Living Root Dragon Boat - Boston
Looking to get in shape? Want to be a part of a team sport? Interested in meeting a diverse and fun group of new friends? Join Living Root Dragon Boat. We are always looking for new members.  We are a competitive Boston-based dragon boat team. We're made up of about 60 to 80 people from all genders, races, age groups, and smartness levels. We get together several times a week to practice dragon boating. We compete all over the region and traveled to Canada, China, Puerto Rico, Philadelphia, Florida and San Francisco. Off the water, we are a close group of friends and we like to do stuff! All kinds of stuff!! Teamwork is really important to us and we try really hard to integrate new paddlers into the team. If you're new to the area, dragon boat is a great way to meet people and make friends. If you've been in Boston for years and you're tired of your old friends, we can help freshen up your social life. **What to Expect When you Show Up**  The first three practices are free to allow for you to try out the sport and meet the team; there is no obligation or pressure to join at that time! We’ll provide all the gear and the coaching and all the socializing you could ever want. After the trial period, we hope you’ll continue your journey with us by purchasing an annual membership since the team’s gear, boats, and space fees (such as pool rental) depend on these contributions. We practice twice a week, and we're always looking for new people to come paddle with us. No experience necessary! Our excellent coaches will teach you everything you need to know. If you are in good shape, we will work you out! If you are still trying to get in shape, don’t worry, many of our current team members started where you are. We will make you bad ass. Inquire about membership on our website or ask a coach. Please sign our [waiver](https://forms.gle/WJRiRZhB8iqsN7VZ9) before attending your first practice. Additional location and parking details can be found [here](https://goo.gl/maps/M7sCjsVVMNprLKCt5). CrewFinder

Newburyport, MA

CrewFinder

CrewFinder is for people who want to actively pursue sailing connections. Skippers find Crew and can network with fellow Skippers. Crew will find a variety of styles and types of sailing. Beginners can meet mentors. Experienced sailors, who are currently boatless, will find the Skippers who are seeking their seasoned skills too.

The fundamental goal here is to increase your hours of sailing & offer a place to share information, contribute knowledge, grow skills, broaden on-water experience, and meet the sailing buddies you will most enjoy, respect, and find dependable. This starts with developing an informative Profile that tells others who you are, what you bring and hope to gain here.

To generate more sailing for all members, we start by catering to Skippers. Skippers define the terms of their sailing day and the type of Crew they seek. We are not a sailing school, but many Skippers enjoy mentoring and newbies curious to explore sailing are welcome. We ask that you be here to actively engage in the sport, want to contribute and have an authentic interest in sailing.

If you RSVP to sail, you're offering to help operate a sailboat. Before you offer, learn about the boat, the Skipper and what will be asked of you. Your offer to crew can be declined or accepted. An RSVP to sail isn't a guaranteed seat, a ticket-to-ride, or a boarding-pass for a free harbor cruise. And unlike many other types of MeetUp event postings, a sailing RSVP is not an offer for crewing respondents to invite their own added Guests.

We have active members in coastal Maine, NH, MA, Rhode Island, & the lakes regions of New Hampshire and Vermont. Our varied calendar and geographically distributed events let you meet fellow enthusiasts and expand your network year-round. You're encouraged to add events to the calendar that will help grow the network in your specific area too. Take the lead, ask for some posting tips, then invite others the sailing activities you enjoy & want to share.

Is this the place to pursue Your sailing interests? Join & find-out. Experiment with new places to sail, different types of boats, and different styles of sailing. Hear about the area's most affordable classes, or find informal on-water learning opportunities. Meet fellow enthusiasts & share good times under sail. Skippers: Never again leave your boat unsailed for lack of Crew! Post here, build your roster, and fill your days with all the sailing you wish.
