Ann Arbor Ski and Social Club
For much more info, please visit our website at [http://www.a2skiclub.org/](http://www.a2skiclub.org/) The A2 Ski Club is a year-round sport and social club. We organize ski trips, both downhill and cross country: usually three or four out West, a couple Up North, sometimes Canada and sometimes Europe. We have two annual bike trips, one based in Bay View, north of Petoskey, and another that follows the KalHaven trail along the Big Lake. There's an annual Gilligan's Island canoe extravaganza, golf, hiking, and volleyball. Our social agenda is both varied and very consistent, with an average of three activities per week. Music is a big focus, and dancing, along with Happy Hours, Movie Night, and monthly Euchre, just to name a few. There is always something to do and friends to do it with. Our meetings, held at Cobblestone Farm, offer free food, libations and music to members, and all of the above to nonmembers for five bucks! The Ann Arbor Ski Club has been around for 50+ years, and we currently average 300 members. We are primarily in our 40's, 50's and 60's, and many of us are single.   While most of us live in the Ann Arbor area, we also have members from an area stretching from Trenton to Lansing,  Brighton to Southfield, and even a few from Grand Rapids and Petoskey. We started this Meetup group as another way to let people know about us and what we do. Our existing membership may or may not join this meetup group; they already know the "what, where and who" about our trips and events and they will be there! We send out a weekly EBlast to members and nonmembers and our events are listed on our website as well. So, when you see an event with only one or two people attending, that's not accurate; we generally have anywhere from 15 to 25 folks at regular events, more at our dances. We are always looking to make new friends and welcome more members! It's one of our primary goals as a club. Dues for membership in the Ann Arbor Ski Club are $30/yr per person. Paid membership entitles a member to free admission to our monthly meetings with free food, drinks and music; to sign up for our discounted trips out west and up north; and to discounts from our sponsors. We have many events which are open to the public, including members of this Meetup group. But, if you are interested in participating in our trips, please come to a meeting. The meetings are posted on our website calendar.

Novi/Farmington Area Tennis/Pickleball Group - Intermediate

Novi, MI

Novi/Farmington Area Tennis/Pickleball Group - Intermediate
Welcome to our group page! We are in the midst of indoor season at the Sports Club of West Bloomfield--please see individual events for details. \*\* **PICKLEBALL**: We are starting to try adding Pickleball courts. If you are a player, feel free to apply for the group and note Pickleball in your comments. Assume all tennis comments below also apply to Pickleball. **\*\*** Below are the overall rules of the group. By attending any of our Meetup events, you agree to all of these and any additional details on the events. **\*\*\* GROUP OVERVIEW \*\*\*\*** Welcome tennis players. Our tennis group consists of a random group of people, some of which have been playing tennis for many years. This group was formed to find new and fun people to play tennis with, make new friends and to possibly take our game to the next level. We play outdoors in the summer and indoors at the Sports Club of West Bloomfield in the winter. Occasionally after tennis, we’ll go out for a drink. Please feel free to join us anytime. Please read everything below and join us for some tennis fun and exercise. See you on the courts! **\*\*SKILL LEVEL REQUIREMENTS\*\*** This Meetup is open for intermediate players and up (for example a [3.0-3.5 USTA ranking](https://assets.usta.com/assets/1/15/ExperiencedGuidelines_02142011_V2pdf.pdf))--no beginners, please. For this group, the minimum requirements are that a player is \*consistent\* with hitting and scoring medium-paced shots, keeping score, and serving. Sorry no beginners or learners, please. We appreciate everyone learning tennis (we've all been there) and just want to maintain a consistent level within the group. If you or the group's leadership team are not comfortable with your level, or if you just want a lighter level of play, please take drills or lessons, or join an appropriate group, such as: https://www.meetup.com/PlayYourCourt-Greater-Detroit-Tennis/ OR, if your level is too HIGH, check out our other group: https://www.meetup.com/Novi-Tennis-Group-Advanced/ **\*\*COURT ASSIGNMENTS\*\*** We organizers will do our best to match up similar skill level players with one another to keep the matchups fun for all. When possible we will switch courts and/or partners (if playing doubles) for variety. **\*\*WEATHER\*\*** In case of bad weather please follow the comment section of the current Meetup and the organizers will do our best make a decision between 4pm and 5pm on that day. **\*\*RULES\*\*** Players who fail to follow these rules could be subject to removal from the group. No-shows could also result in removal from the group. 1. MEMBERS ONLY: In order to join us for Meetups, you must be a member of Meetup and the group, no guests please. We need to ensure that every member has filled out the questionnaire for level of play to properly assign court matchups. See below for information on our one-time annual member fee. 2. RSVP POLICY: If you RSVP but are unable to attend, you can change your RSVP as soon as possible or at the very latest, by the cancellation deadline posted in the Meetup description. Not canceling your reservation could create an odd numbers of players and doesn’t allow those on the waitlist (see item 3) to play. For indoor season, since we have to pay in advance for court time we may ask you to pay for no-show time if we can't fill your spot. Players with 2 or more no-shows without proper cancellation are subject to removal from the group. Note: We understand that things happen in life and late cancellations may be necessary at times. We just kindly ask that you let the organizer know ASAP by sending a text/call, sending a Meetup message, or by posting in that Meetup’s discussion board so that they can make appropriate adjustments. 3. WAITLIST: Due to court availability, we place a limit of 8-12 players for each Meetup. If there are more than the limit, Meetup will automatically create a "Waitlist" and will move people from that list to RSVP if there's a cancellation. We respectfully ask that all players on this list be available to play in case someone drops on the RSVP list, even on the day of the Meetup. If you aren’t sure that you can make it please remove yourself from the waitlist. Note: If there are enough RSVPs on the waitlist, the organizers may open the Meetup to add a court for the players from the waitlist. This will depend on court availability at that particular location. 4. PHOTO: We request that members display their actual photo and name on our meetup site so we know who you are when you show up. 5. ARRIVAL TIME: We ask that all players do their best to show up on time and stay until the end of the meetup. If you are running late, please post on that particular Meetup’s discussion, PM or text the organizer. 6. EVEN NUMBER: We prefer an even number of players. If you were the last RSVP and you make it an odd number we kindly ask you to change your RSVP to “No” before the Meetup starts. We will do our best to see if we can find a player to keep it even. It is not always possible to avoid this situation. 9. USTA RULES: When playing, try to follow the [USTA rules](https://www.usta.com/content/dam/usta/pdfs/20180119_2018FAC-full.links.pdf#). We encourage this for those players that play on USTA teams, and for others to develop good habits. “If it’s close, it’s in.” 10. DELAYS: If playing in early spring, late summer or fall and there is a high school match being played, please do not go on the courts until an organizer confirms that it’s alright to do so. 11. RESPECT: Please be kind, courteous and respectful to everyone. We are all here to have a good time while getting some exercise and improving our tennis skills. 12. FORMAT: Unless stated in the Meetup header the format will be as follows. If enough players are willing to play singles, and we have enough courts available, we will do so. Otherwise, we will default to doubles. When possible, we will switch partners and/or opponents for variety of play. 13. TENNIS BALLS: Bring some tennis balls! Please don’t assume everyone will have some. If we all pitch in, it will be a lot cheaper for everyone in the long run. 14. FUN: Lastly and most importantly: have fun!!! **\*\*ANNUAL OUTDOOR FEE\*\*** We ask each player attending our outdoor Meetups to contribute a $10 ONE-TIME annual fee, which covers our $180 annual Meetup fee while giving you the convenience of a managed group and regular events. Any excess fees will be used to purchase balls or cover a fall outing. You may attend one Meetup without cost to see if you like it. If you'd like, you can PayPal, Venmo, ApplePay or Zelle to Ron Flannery (rflan444@iCloud.com, 248-318-5016). Just be sure to say who you are. **\*\*RELEASE AND WAIVER\*\*** By signing up for this Meetup group, I agree that the organizers of this group and its members will not be held responsible for the actions of any participant at any event including myself. Each person attends an event at their own risk and is solely responsible for any injuries, losses, illness, or consequences to themselves or others, damages to equipment or other personal property, and any other consequence. Minors are allowed provided: A) They in good health and meet the skill requirements for the group; B) A parent or legal guardian must be present, the RSVP must be done in his or her name, and he or she must notify the group via the discussion in that particular event; C) Parent or guardian accepts the release and waiver above for the minor. **COVID preparedness.** We will be practicing recommended guidelines. Please also view the following safe tennis COVID-19 guidelines and stay home if you aren't feeling well or have been exposed: [https://www.usta.com/en/home/stay-current/national/usta-statement-on-safety-of-playing-tennis-during-the-covid-19-v.html](https://www.usta.com/en/home/stay-current/national/usta-statement-on-safety-of-playing-tennis-during-the-covid-19-v.html) **\*\*CONTACT US\*\*** If you have further questions, comments, suggestions or concerns please contact us via text message or by sending us a Meetup message. Ann Arbor Couples - Making New Friends

Ann Arbor, MI

Howdy couples! Us & You: We started this in-person group to make new friends and help couples in similar situations do so. We are a mid-late thirties couple on the introverted side, with no kids(nothing against them!), who moved to this college town during the pandemic. While some in their early 20's might find us boring, and some seniors might find us unbearably hip(said no one to us ever), we don't have any age cut-offs for membership. Events will be kid-free, but we don't care how many kids you do or don't have. We welcome couples (or thruples) of any gender identity, etc, who -also- welcome said diversity. We also welcome we-have-thirteen-cats or we-have-matching-Falcor-tattoos levels of eccentricity, but would prefer to avoid Tupac's-not-dead or I-was-probed-by-aliens levels. No offense, Jeff. Our intention with a couples group is to have a more relaxed environment without the sometimes-awkward looking-for-love energy of other groups and normal environments. We have nothing against those who enjoy swinging or the like; but we personally do not, and that is NOT the point of this group. Events: We hope to host a variety of small-scale(6-12 people) indoor and outdoor activities, ranging from couch-potato to moderate activity levels, all in-person, and mostly around downtown Ann Arbor. These could include or combine: going out for coffee/food/cocktails, local events or live music, local attractions like the botanical gardens or museums, nature walks or picnics, standup paddleboarding and kayaking, or small party-game and cocktail nights. We might consider some split events like "dude-bros hang at house while ladies step out for drinks, then rendezvous for pizza" or such. Please feel free to suggest an event, or (once we're familiar with you) offer to host your own event in the group. Looking forward to meeting you, Nick & Cynthia Optional - More About Your Hosts We are 1 part lovely, functional human woman, and 1.2 parts (by mass) odd duck on stilts wearing a human man's trench coat. We've lived in Ann Arbor since June 2021; but, due partly to the remote and travel elements of our work, we've done a piss-poor job at figuring out what making friends in a new town looks like in your thirties. We have both separately hosted meetups in the past, and now as a couple since 2016(you guessed it: we met through Meetup), we are back here hosting together. Whether dining out or enjoying a homemade pizza night, we eat gluten-free due to her Celiac. We love our two cats (Simon and Kaylee), domestic and international travel(points and miles!), quality cocktails(growing bar at home, or out), and crappy one-liners or puns. We live on the edge of downtown, and enjoy walking from spot to spot, like just making a Saturday out of heading to a cafe, to farmers' market, to brunch, to distillery, etc. Outdoors, we enjoy hiking and stand-up paddle boarding. There's not a sport(other than bowling I guess?) that we really like to do together. We can manage frisbee with the light dollar store ones(mine from Ultimate hurts her hands). And folksy-rockish music is our overlap in the soundscape. Social sciences, plants, West Virginia, photography, drums, spreadsheets, moral philosophy, cooking, fantasy, less-biased news, yoga, TV/movies, we promise we'll have -something- to connect over. :)

Krav Maga Michigan

Ann Arbor, MI

Krav Maga Michigan
Krav Maga Michigan is a non-profit club that **offers self defense classes**. Our club is open to all people who are looking for cooperative, non-competitive, and friendly environment to learn and improve their self-defense skills. The training sessions and facilities are sponsored by [Grace Church - Ann Arbor](https://gracechurch.city/ann-arbor), as a community outreach program. Though **our program is free**, you are welcome to make donations to Grace Church - Ann Arbor at [this link](https://gracechurches.churchcenter.com/giving). For those unfamiliar with “Krav Maga”, it is a martial system developed and used by the Israeli Defense Force. It combines techniques from several martial arts into a very effective and realistic form of self-defense. The system is taught to military, police, and civilians around the world. It is not a sport, but a skill that will help members defend themselves and their family, should the need arise. As you might also guess, it is a form of exercise, but with a purpose. The club is run by a team that includes long time students, but may include other instructors when they are available. Our training sessions are free and open to the public. All instructors volunteer their time. Krav Maga Michigan operates under the premise that members are there to help each other learn. The number one goal of members is to be safe training partner for other members. We are not here to compete, but to cooperate and provide each other opportunities to improve our skills to protect ourselves and our families. The curriculum will include techniques and practices from several styles of Krav Maga and some traditional martial art styles. The club itself will not have any formal affiliation with any style of Krav Maga, but will operate independently of any Krav Maga organization. If you are looking for more formal training opportunities we would direct you to other schools in the area. You must be 18 or older to join this group or register for training sessions. Families are welcome, but minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
