SOB Cycling: Spokes Over Blokes (Women's Cycling Group)

Morrisville, NC

Welcome to ***SOB Cycling***! This is not ***(NOT)*** an "anti-male" group but is focused on creating a safe space for women to ride and grow in the sport/hobby of cycling. Cycling is a very male-dominated activity and sometimes the women's perspective gets lost. This group's privacy is set to private so that the safe space, including the details of where we will gather, remains only visible to members of this group. What I have noticed since moving to The Triangle is that many cycling groups are male dominated, which changes the dynamic of a group...and a peloton *(If you know, you know)*. For me, I wanted a group that has rides where every person isn't training for a race series and/or a century. I want to get consistent (again) and rebuild my cycling stamina after injury and self-neglect. Don't get me wrong, I never stopped cycling, but I have become "a person who rides" more than the cyclist I once was, who lived the lifestyle...and I do miss it. Whether on the road, gravel, or trail, above all else, I want to have fun and explore now *(and familiar)* terrain. If you're a MTB girlie, the **[TORC Women's group](https://www.facebook.com/groups/552289478298970)** is awesome, but doesn't host many rides. **[TORC](https://www.torc-nc.org/)** overall is a great group and I encourage all my MTB ladies to consider joining. Regardless, I WILL (WILL) be scheduling MTB rides all over. (Admittedly, I am an XC rider and former racer who favors climbing over jumping off sh*t, so if jumping off sh*t is your thing, I will happily watch and be your hype girl...but will not actively seek out trails that specifically cater to flow or gravity. Sorry. I broke my back walking my dogs; imagine what I could break with my level of coordination.) Most but not all weekday rides will be road or gravel and I will host longer MTB events on weekends. Were you previously a competitive cyclist who suffered an injury and is recovering? Or lost your mojo? Or just walked away from the sport for a beat but want back in? Are you strong as all get out but want to ride with other women and elevate them? ***YES! Come ride!*** Do you miss riding and training with others but perhaps are not yet ready to jump back into other group rides at their posted average speeds or just don't want the imbalance of the male-dominated ride? Do you miss having a set training plan? Want to ride with others but hate the heat or just need to get sh\*t done early in the day before the day takes you..? *(This cannot just be me.)* Let's work it out together and get back in the saddle in ways that build us up and spark joy and community. **\*If you are a beginner cyclist, this may not be the best fit for you, but you are still welcome to show up and see what we are about. :-)** About me: I relo'ed to NC from STL in Nov 2020 and have struggled to get back in the saddle in a meaningful way after injury and a bit of social isolation. I love NC and want to *(somewhat selfishly)* build a community that supports those of us who seem to fall through the group ride cracks...the formerly advanced-level, injured/recovering athletes. :-) ***Let's do this!*** *\*Side Note: Fundraising was accidentally triggered and I have since disabled. I will never request funding support for this group. :-)* **Acronym Glossary:** **MTB:** mountain bike **OAB:** Out and Back **ATT:** American Tobacco Trail **ORC:** Old Reedy Creek Trailhead **NRT:** Neuse River Trail **NCMA:** NC Museum of Art

Triangle Off Road Cyclists (TORC)

Cary, NC

Triangle Off Road Cyclists (TORC)
**Promoting – Building – Maintaining** Triangle Off-Road Cyclists (TORC) is a nonprofit volunteer organization (501) (C) (3) dedicated to safeguarding the future of mountain biking in the Triangle area of North Carolina through the promotion of responsible riding, establishment and maintenance of mountain biking trails, and preservation of North Carolina’s natural resources. TORC is the Triangle area chapter of Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association (SORBA) and was founded in August 2005. Prior to TORC’s formation, the Triangle’s mountain bike community had been served by individual mountain bike clubs whose focus was limited to a specific trail network. TORC was formed to unify the region’s smaller clubs into a stronger voice for local mountain bikers.   Thank you for those that have joined.  TORC is becoming a stronger and stronger influence within the Triangle NC area.  The bigger our numbers and the larger pool of leaders and volunteers to draw from, directly means more success in our area for more trails and happier land managers/owners.  Please look at the big picture for our local mountain bike advocacy efforts and join and volunteer to help.                         If you haven’t already joined, for as little as $39 a year you could be a member of TORC, SORBA and the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA). Visit [www.torc-nc.org](http://www.torc-nc.org). ![](https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/c/4/8/8/event_267710312.jpeg) An important part of promoting the sport of mountain biking is extending a welcome to everybody who is enthusiastic and interested in the sport. We offer rides, clinics, and events to accommodate people with all skill levels and the advancement of off-road cycling throughout the Triangle. ![](https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/c/5/f/0/event_267710672.jpeg) We schedule trail workdays throughout the year to build new trail or maintain existing singletrack. Check our events calendar and volunteer at a trail near you! Trail workdays are essential events for TORC and the local mountain biking community at large. They ensure new trail gets built, existing trail remains sustainable, and that we maintain strong relationships with local public and private land managers. ![](https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/c/7/1/c/event_267710972.jpeg) ![](https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/c/8/7/a/event_267711322.jpeg) TORC’s races are a great way to meet other local mountain bikers and compete.  TORC holds several races per year. Each race usually has multiple categories, so that you can compete with others at your skill level as individuals or as a team. ![](https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/c/f/d/c/event_267713212.jpeg) New trail development (and maintenance of existing trails) is important to the preservation of open space and encourages a healthy lifestyle for bikers of all ages. As dedicated stewards of the environment, TORC employs the International Mountain Biking Association’s (IMBA) trail-building best practices. ![](https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/d/1/1/c/event_267713532.jpeg) TORC has built strong relationships with Park and Recreation Departments in Wake, Durham, and Orange counties. We also have working relationships with private land developers. These partnerships provide local mountain bikers with opportunities for trail access while protecting the future of existing trails. TORC holds local group rides nearly year-round throughout the various trails for all different skills levels, with beginner rides being some of our most popular. These rides allow participants to meet new people, learn new skills and trail systems, and have fun. Keep an eye on our event calendar - visit [http://www.meetup.com/torc-nc#calendar](http://www.meetup.com/torc-nc#calendar). Search for “Triangle Off-Road Cyclists” and connect with other local mountain bikers on [https://www.facebook.com/pages/Triangle-Off-Road-Cyclist-TORC/179388852095254.](https://www.facebook.com/pages/Triangle-Off-Road-Cyclist-TORC/179388852095254) ![](https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/d/6/2/6/event_267714822.jpeg) Help us continue to promote, build, and maintain mountain biking in the Triangle. Triangle Tennis Enthusiasts
**T**riangle **T**ennis **E**nthusiasts, a Top Ten Most Active Sports and Recreation Meet-up Group in the United States. Formerly World #1, May - November 2012, and US #1, May 2012 - March 2013. Recipient of the Town Of Cary Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources "Volunteer Partner Organization of the Year Award," 2017. Based at scenic Cary Tennis Park, the Southern USTA's Facility of The Year, 2008 and 2012. Home of the ACC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships each April, and the ATP Challenger Tour Atlantic Tire Championships each September. Adult tennis. Great variety of quality events, support and comprehensive calendar of weekly programs, all on reserved courts. Daytime and nighttime events, averaging 43 events per month. All our events are a pleasant 50/50 blend of social/competitive. We compliment good play. We all like to win, but not at the expense of hooking line calls and gamesmanship. We provide women's doubles, men's doubles, mixed doubles and singles play events. Some select events are specifically advertised and promoted as play-up/play down events. Our staff of volunteer assistant organizers (AOs) have a combined 139 years experience organizing events for TTE as of September 2024. AOs manage each of their events and provide **the best possible similar skills-based pairings/matches** and a new can of balls for each court at each event. Our member players are from 1.5 (beginner+) to 5.0 (advanced). The majority are 2.5 - 4.0 (novice through intermediate). Some members are new to the game and looking to play organized tennis after completing clinics and lessons, while other members are looking for the next step to prepare for league play. Some members simply do not want to play league, while others played league and never want to play league again. Some members play both league and TTE because they enjoy the social aspect and networking capabilities TTE provides. Jeff Miller, Founder, TTE

The Raleigh Epic Rides Group

Raleigh, NC

The Raleigh Epic Rides Group

Note: We are currently closed off for membership but selectively taking new members in order to maintain a level of safety on our rides.  As noted below, we are primarily sport bike and sport touring riders.  Please contact the group organizer and give some info about yourself, style of riding, experience level, and type of motorcycle you ride to determine if you are a good fit. Again, we keep our group in private status so that we can focus on safety and attract riders that will fit well into our group. We highly encourage newer sport riders to join as well.

What IS an "epic ride" ? Websters defines epic as " majestic, impressively great". That's what were striving for with this Meetup group. A chance to meet some wonderful new riders that you might have otherwise just waved at as you passed them on the road, but also to have some "epic" rides to various destinations. Whether it's a trip to VIR for a weekend race, an overnight mountain camping ride, a cruise through the country side down to the beach, or just a weeknight get together to tear up some backroads, we're in search of the epic ride.

We're geared more towards the mature sport bike and sport tourer rider and are proud to have members from various ethic and cultural backgrounds as well as orientations. The only thing we ask is that you be safety minded, mature, and have a sense of adventure. I am happy to say this is a wonderful group of individuals that I have shared some amazing rides with.

So stop posing at the local watering hole and get out there and RIDE ! We've got some great ideas for destination rides coming up, so come on in and join up !
