Up North Orienteers

Barrington, NH

Up North Orienteers

Orienteering is an international sport where you follow a course using a map and compass. Beginners follow trails, but as you advance, more of the course is done off-trail. You can come and race with us, or you can learn to be more confident walking or hiking in the woods using a map and compass. If you do any hiking, adventure racing, hunting, or bushwhacking, we can teach you to read your map and use a compass. It's a great family sport, and you are welcome to do the courses in small groups or individually. Up North Orienteers is affiliated with a New Hampshire orienteering club of the same name (http://upnoor.org/). Our objective is to foster and promote orienteering as a recreational and competitive sport. Up North Orienteers offers a full schedule of orienteering events in New Hampshire. Our event schedule is dominated by local meets (designed for beginners, casual orienteers, and competitive types). Most of our meets are in the spring and the fall. We also have some permanent courses where we do training and practice skills.

Amesbury Board Game Group

Amesbury, MA

Amesbury Board Game Group
* We are a board game group! * We host events in Amesbury, Massachusetts. * We are a welcoming and inclusive group, always willing to teach and bring more folks into the hobby. If you love to play board games or are interested in learning, this group is for you. We will always have plenty of games available, but you are also welcome to bring your own. The most important thing in this group is to be friendly and inclusive, and have fun! **FAQs:** • **I'm new to board gaming and a little nervous about coming out. Will there be anyone to teach me games?** Absolutely! We have a lot of people who are new to gaming and there are sooo many new games that even those of us who are seasoned gamers are regularly learning new games. Teaching games is a passion here and we also do our best to help people get matched up with other players at the open gaming events.  • **I like board games, but a lot of the ones I see as events here are longer, more complex games. I'm into shorter and/or less complex games. Is this group for me?** Yes, it is! Part of the reason we host complex games as individual events is to get together the folks who want to play those games, specifically. If you come to one of our open board gaming events there will be a variety of types of games available to play and attendees with a variety of game interests.  • **Are children allowed at these events?** These events (unless otherwise specified) are not geared towards children; however, there is no specific age restriction - it's more about the type of games being played. For example: if your 7 year old can take on the adults in a game of Carcassonne or Azul and wants to join us, your 7 year old is welcome. If your 7 year old wants to play Chutes and Ladders or Trouble, it would probably be challenging to find a willing participant. Still not sure? Feel free to send a message and ask!   • **Is there a charge to attend these events?** Great question! Generally, these events will be free. We strive to make gaming accessible and look for locations that won't result in us having to charge. If there is ever a need to charge for an event, it will be indicated within the specific event. • **Where does the group meet?** The group is meant to be geographically focused primarily in Amesbury, MA. We meet at a variety of places around Amesbury. The location will be posted for each event.
