Pickleball in Upper Dublin, Lower Moreland and More!

Ambler, PA

Pickleball in Upper Dublin, Lower Moreland and More!
Looking for a fun, relaxed Pickleball group. Join us in the Upper Dublin and Upper/Lower Moreland areas of North Wales, Ambler, Maple Glen, Horsham and more! Free to play. No host. Join an already posted time or post a time and see if others can join. See you soon my fellow pickleball friends. You are encouraged to bring water, a paddle, and a chair. All levels are welcome. See event details for more level of play details specific to that event. Those attending are very welcoming, friendly, and encouraging. Please keep in mind that the courts used for this MeetUp group are public and not reserved. Others from the public may attend. Signing up via this Meetup is not required nor a guarantee of court space. General suggested guidelines are to let those who are waiting play next. Prioritize those who have just shown up and haven't played yet. If you have played two, be extra willing to let others play next, even if you have won both. Some courts have a winners stay on for two games policy. Some have paddle up systems where you can put your paddle in line so those waiting the longest play next. There may be no official host at these sessions. In the event of no host, some in attendance may step up to help guide who plays next and organize. Those who are reported as not being encouraging and cooperative may be removed from this Meetup group. These events are free, but donations to cover the Meetup fees and additional pickleball equipement are appreciated. Suggested donation is $20/year. Donations are accepted by the group host Sarah Harkleroad in cash at an event. Venmo, paypal, etc. are available. Ask Sarah for details in person. Looking for other Pickleball options in the area? Try these out: 1. **Horsham Township** has a Meetup group. See the Township or Meetup details on how to join the group. All events are at courts behind the Horsham Police Station. Eight courts are available; some are brand new. Great parking, wind breaks, picnic benches for breaks, etc. There are some times that are open to the public, where membership is not required. See the Township/Meetup for these days and times. 2. **Upper Dublin Sports Center**: Fee required. They post events on Meetup but require that you download and use their own app: Upper Dublin Sports Center. They have indoor and outdoor courts. Events are moderated by a Pro. The Pro helps group similar-level players together. 3\. Some pickleball courts in the area: **Mason Mills** at 3500 Masons Mill Rd, Willow Grove, PA 19090 (almost always busy with players of all levels), **Three Tuns Park** at 1548 Cooper Dr. in Ambler, Henry Lee Willet Park at 1791 **Twining Road** in Willow Grove, **Aidenn Lair Park** in Dresher/Maple Glen, and **Riccardi Park** at [232 Hendricks St, Ambler, PA](https://www.mapquest.com/us/pennsylvania/riccardi-park-434681167) (4 courts but no play before 8am per township rules). **Water Tower Recreation Center (Chestnut Hill)** at 209 E Hartwell Ln, Philadelphia, PA 19118 has 8 free outdoor courts. Competition is intermediate to advanced. The courts have summer hours which are Monday - Friday 4pm - 8pm and Saturday 9am - 5pm. 5\. Explore the website https://**playtimescheduler**.com/ especially the Hatfield-Lansdale area (use the Globe icon to see the list of areas). Direct message the organizer Sarah if you'd like to be able to post additional pickleball events on this group.

Philly Paddleboard and Kayak

Warrington, PA

Philly Paddleboard and Kayak

If you enjoy being on the water whether it be the lake, ocean, bay, or river, this group is for you. For stand up paddlers, kayakers, surfers, and all water sport enthusiasts, this is the place to meet others who enjoy being on the water. Most paddles are exploratory covering approximately 5 miles or more conditions permitting. Experienced and non-experienced welcome, depending on the event. Some events are held where rentals are available while others require you to bring your own gear; rented off-site or owned.

ALL MEMBERS OF THIS GROUP AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

1. This is an online social network that periodically hosts events where members meet in person. The group is NOT a substitute for competent, professional paddling instruction from a professional kayaker, stand up paddle boarder, surf instructor, or guiding service. Organizers, Assistant Organizers, Event Organizers, Members, and Sponsors do NOT guarantee the competence of any individual in this group. Members are responsible for their own safety and should be aware of their ability.

2. Water sports pose dangers in any environment- calm, flat water to waves. Any and all consequences as a result of participating in a Meetup activity, including but not limited to personal injury and property damage or loss are an accepted risk to the participant. If you get hurt or suffer property damage or loss in connection with an event posted on this website, it is entirely your responsibility and NOT the responsibility of the Meetup group or any individuals associated with the Meetup group. BY JOINING AND PARTICIPATING WITH THIS GROUP YOU ACCEPT FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR SAFETY, BELONGINGS, HEALTH, AND WELL-BEING, WITH NO EXCEPTIONS.

3. Be courteous to your fellow paddlers. Please only RSVP if you seriously plan on attending; not just holding a spot and waiting for a "better" option. If your plans change and you cannot attend an event, please change your RSVP ASAP so someone else can join and we do not expect you.

4. Posted event times will be the meet time. Allow sufficient time for parking, unloading, and journey prep (ie bathroom, sunscreen, snack, etc) to be ready for timely departure.

5. Inflatable kayaks such as Intex are not recommended for most outings. In past experiences, they have difficulty keeping pace with the group and navigating, especially in breezy conditions.

IF YOU DO NOT WHOLEHEARTEDLY AND COMPLETELY AGREE WITH THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS, THEN YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO JOIN THIS GROUP OR PARTICIPATE IN ITS EVENTS.

All that being said, this group is an excellent chance to try out an incredibly rewarding sport! This group encourages folks of all abilities to join and try new things.

See you on the water!

Japanese Ju-Jitsu in the Lehigh Valley, PA

Emmaus, PA

Japanese Ju-Jitsu in the Lehigh Valley, PA
**Welcome to our Japanese Ju-Jitsu Meetup!**   We are dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive space where all individuals are welcomed, respected, and valued. Our group aims to create an empowering environment for everyone - regardless of your background or identity. Join us to learn some basic skills in Japanese Ju-Jitsu, meet and socialize with new people, and have fun! **What can explore a martial art do for you?** * Self-confidence * Self-discipline * Fitness * Attentiveness * Respect for others * Inclusion * Moral courage * ... **What is Ju-Jitsu?** Ju-Jitsu is modern self-defense. "The “Gentle Art” or “Art of Suppleness” (this is the meaning of ju-jitsu in Japanese) does not neutralize power with power but aims to rationally absorb an attack and convert that energy to the opponent’s own detriment. So it is designed to defend you with a flexible reaction on violence." If you're interested to find out more, browse the website of the Ju-Jitsu International Federation: www.jjif.sport **What can you expect?** Please be aware that this is an outdoor activity. We will engage in sportive activities with elements of cardio, strength, stability, and, of course, Ju-Jitsu techniques. Ju-Jitsu is a contact sport, so expect to engage in physical contact with other members. It's important to note that everyone has different physical capabilities and levels of comfort. Therefore, an open dialog between members when engaging in Ju-Jitsu is crucial. **Do you have to have experience in Ju-Jitsu?** No. The focus is on fitness, socializing, and having fun while learning elements of Ju-Jitsu. You train at your own pace and comfort level. You can choose which exercises you participate in and which ones you don't. **What do you need to bring?** * Wear activewear & sneakers that you feel comfortable and can move freely in * A yoga mat (unless you want to use the grass as your mat) * Water (to hydrate) * If you wear glasses, you might want to consider wearing contact lenses or sport goggles **What are the key differences between Japanese Ju-Jitsu and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu? ([Source](https://www.japanesemartialartscenter.com/learnmore-jujutsu-in-ann-arbor-vs-bjj))** ***A. Origins*** * Japanese Ju-Jitsu (JJJ) ‒ Originating in Japan as one of the first martial arts, JJJ came from samurai hand-to-hand combat. The idea was that samurai could defend themselves with Ju-Jitsu when their weapons were destroyed or lost. * Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) ‒ BJJ actually comes from Judo, not Ju-Jitsu. Followers of JJJ adapted the martial art into judo and taught it around the world. In the early 1900s, judo teacher Mitsuyo Maeda taught Judo in Brazil. One of his students was Carlos Gracie, who then created the style of BJJ. ***B. Moves*** * JJJ ‒ Throws, joint locks, chokes, kicks, and strikes are all moves used in JJJ. The main goal is to use strength and momentum against your opponent to overpower them. Ju-Jitsu is more about analyzing your opponent’s moves and quickly finding a way to bring them down. One hard throw could be enough to keep them down, unlike BJJ, where you hold down your opponent. * BJJ ‒ Consisting mostly of grappling, BJJ takes place primarily on the ground, with the goal to force submission onto the opponent. By using leverage and grip, moves like chokes and strangles make the opponent give up. ***C. Purpose*** * JJJ is used as a form of self-defense, fitness, and personal development. * BJJ is mostly used as a competitive sport. Moves like submissions or dominant positions earn you points and determine a winner. **Important:** This is not a paid class or club. This is a purely social group engaging in sportive activities. Your attendance is voluntary, at your own risk, and free of charge. A waiver (link will be provided in each scheduled event, or print-outs will be made available at the time of the event) must be signed before attending each event. **About me:** My name is Tim. I moved from Germany to the Lehigh Valley in early 2020, and now want to get involved in my community by teaching some basic Ju-Jitsu skills and bringing people together. I started doing Ju-Jitsu in Germany in 1998, but haven't gotten back into it in the States yet. To this day, I'm still a member of my home club [Ju Jutsu Club Peine e.V.](www.jjc-peine.de), even if I don't get to train there anymore. I was a member of my club's training team training adults and kids for many years, as well as of the board organizing training and social events. Outside of my club, I was a referee for the Ju-Jitsu Fighting System, and head referee of my home state for six years, supporting this beautiful sport in Germany. Question?
