North End Hikes and Walks with Dogs

Edmonds, WA

North End Hikes and Walks with Dogs

This is a group for people who like to get out exploring with their dogs.  Hikes and walks will mainly be scheduled for the Seattle area and north.

You do not need to own or bring a dog to join us, you just need to be willing and comfortable hiking with dogs.

I am not an experienced guide, but have done a number of hikes and am wanting to find others that are passionate about getting out as well.

Disclaimer: We are not  professional guides and do not have certified training or insurance. Be aware, inherent hazards and risks are associated with walking, hiking and all other physical activity. We can not guarantee the condition of the trail, the length of the trail, or that the trail will be appropriate for a certain fitness level. You may join us on our hikes and/or walks at your own risk. Keep in mind that hiking and walking involves risks and weather changes quickly in the mountains.  You are responsible for your own safety and health.  The more prepared you are, the better the chance you will remain safe. Your preparedness not only affects your safety but the safety and enjoyment of the whole group.

I am not in charge of this hike/walk, I’m merely going on a hike/walk myself and inviting others to join me.

Please read the "Terms of Membership" agreement before joining:

I am open to suggestions about where to go and what to do.

Dogs make wonderful trail companions and it is a hobby you can do anywhere, at anytime of the year.
For dog owners it is important to realize that not all parks are open to our four-legged friends. it is sometimes hard for dog owners to believe but not everyone loves dogs. We are, in fact, in the minority when compared with our non-dog-owning neighbors. As such, rules can change rapidly to ban dogs from even more of our public parks. It doesn't take a referendum or a ballot count for "NO DOGS" signs to appear overnight.
So make sure your dog is a good citizen on the trail - don't bother other hikers and pick up after him - and you will be embarking on a passion that will last a lifetime.
Get fit - grab a leash and hit the trail!

Traditional Taichi in Everett,WA

Mukilteo, WA

Traditional Taichi in Everett,WA

As a part of the practice - East Asian Medicine(www.everetti-chingacupuncture.com), this meetup is mainly for helping our patients stay well through meditation and Taichi special movement, etc(American Specialty Health Fitness, Inc./ Exercise Center provider:www.ashcompanies.com/provider/exercisecenter/traditional-tai-chi). Also, I'd like to meet anyone interested in Tao Te Ching book study and  meditation, and Taichi in Snohomish County, WA to share the great east ancient Philosophy and more ... All skills level are welcome.

                                                     ****************************

The practice of tai chi among the hundreds of millions of people around the world is broadly divided into two kinds: one is the new routine as a sport of tai chi and the other is a traditional routine within the martial arts range. According to a publication in Taiwan entitled, “Essence of Dao”(Number five, Chapter 2, Introduction): even if Zhang San Feng is the respected founder of Taichiquan and revered at the level of deity, actually his real Tai Chi is not the form only. It is through the form, however, that there is internal cultivation of alchemy practice all the way to the highest level in the Shen world of spirituality known as Dan Ding Shen Ming. Therefore, the true meaning of the Zhang San Feng Taoist Tai Chi Chuan is the Taoist Inner Alchemy cultivation, which includes both high-level sports and high-level martial arts.

The Daoist Master, Zhang San Feng1255—1424, Song -Ming dynasty, is the founder of Tai Chi and at age 132 was admitted into Hemingshan monastery where he lived until age 169. During these thirty-seven years in Hemingshan, he founded a more complete theory of the inner alchemy and Taoist Tai Chi as well as a more mature Tai Chi posture. Therefore, it can be said that Zhang San Feng created Taichiquan(Taijiquan) in Wudang Mountain and promoted tai chi in Hemingshan (literally translated as Crane Cry Mountain). Hemingshan is well deserved to be called the "Taichiquan(Taijiquan) Holy Land". During more than one hundred years after the passing of Zhang San Feng, the founder of Taoist Inner Alchemy practice, due to its level of high difficulty of learning and mastery, etc., the tai chi alchemy cultivation was nearly lost. Only two pieces of evidence remain: a one-page writing called “Taichiquan Classics”, and Quanjia , which means “form”, that consists of plain line drawings or illustrations of Taichiquan postures.

With Zhang San Feng’s Tai Chi alchemy secrets revealed, the longevity secret of the Chi Master at the age of 169 has also been revealed. Having originated from Taoism, Tai Chi Chuan, created by Zhang San Feng, has been profoundly influenced by this philosophy. Taoism advocates the reflection of nature within martial arts. Zhang San Feng’s goal was to create a martial arts form for the elderly, weak, chronically ill, disabled, women, children, etc. As a result, its unique medical fitness effects improve the quality of life and promote happiness throughout one’s longevity. It has been urged that because this form lives within the spiritual development of the inner alchemy of health preservation, it is dedicated to the peoples of the world.

Chinese Taoist culture, after thousands of years of precipitation, and surviving as an essential culture, has already developed as a rescue method or art of solving chronic diseases and other etiologic conditions. The most prominent rescue method is the Zhang San Feng Taoist Tai Chi. Its comprehensive balance and harmony has a good effect on human physiology. Wang Xuan, a modern academician of the China Academy of Sciences, has noted that, “
Tai Chi, which has the connotation of Taoist culture, is the number one brand of medical fitness". Further, Fa-rong Ren, the president of the China Taoist Association, has also written that “Health preservation through Taoism is the supreme life science in the world today!

You can pay upon arrival or take a 2-month trial. [Online methods of payment include Zelle and PayPal (clubwidseattle@gmail.com) or Venmo (@clubwid). If you pay via Stripe, Meetup will take a cut. * All other events are usually Dutch treat. * Many of our members organize informal meetups and get-togethers in-between official ones. These are always welcome and encouraged! * We encourage you to come to an event as soon as you can, so you can join our community on the BAND app. That's where we're all hanging out! See below for more information about BAND. **WHO WE ARE** Club Wid is a social club of young widowed people (born after 1965) in Seattle/Bellevue, WA. Because we lost our partners to death, you could say we're a community built around the worst reason to make new friends. Through fun monthly activities, conversation, sometimes dark humor and always love for our people, we're moving forward together after loss. We are widowed people, Gen X and younger, integrating our grief into the lives we're rebuilding after the loss of partners we thought we would grow old with. Change after widowhood often includes secondary losses like shifting friendships. With that understanding, we offer an outlet for a place to go, things to do and people who "get" our situation and have similar lived experiences. **WHAT WE ARE AND WHAT WE ARE NOT** * We are a social club for widowed people born after 1965. * Because we are a social club, we are NOT a grief support group. * We are not a club for people to join with the intention of finding dating partners. * This local meetup group is for people who are past the acute stages of grief (at least 12 months). Acute grief is a natural and instinctive path that, when taken, often leads to healthier outcomes. However, it can include symptoms that we fellow wids are not equipped to manage in a social club, such as separation distress; traumatic distress; guilt, remorse, and regrets; social withdrawal; and sometimes, symptoms similar to those of depression. * As such, membership is only for people who lost their partner more than 12 months ago. We know from our own cumulative experience that there is no “timeline” for grief. However, the first year is not like the times that follow. For those who are outside our target membership or within 12 months of your loss, please check out these other favorite Seattle area grief programs: The Healing Center; Widowed Information and Consultation Services; Providence Grief Support Services (and many others; this female-only social club, Modern Widows Club-Seattle may appeal to some). **WHAT WE DO**  Club Wid launched after a holiday meetup event in November 2021 at Flatstick Pub in Pioneer Square. It was intended to be a one-time event, but at the end, people looked around and said, "This was fun! We should do this again." * **Events:** We host gatherings such as mini-golf, ping pong, bar crawls, BBQs, film screenings, dining out, concerts, house parties, and so on. Most of our events are adult-centered, but there are occasional specified events that include children. * **Give and take!** We crowdsource our social lives, often individually volunteering or sharing our homes, hobbies and activity preferences. We are big enough that folks will have different preferences on type/timing/cost of activities, so proactive planning and coordination amongst individual members is the best way to make sure there are get-togethers that fit each individual set of preferences. * **Regular conversations**: We stay in touch between meetups on a members-only app called BAND, where we restrict to members who have attended at least one gathering in-person, as a safe space to stay in touch and plan to meet up again! * **Within the BAND app:** We often organize informal meetups/ events (i.e. events not listed on Meetup.com). * Members can post, pose questions, or chat, similar to other social media apps. * New members are invited to BAND at their request after attending an official Meetup.com event. **Please review these reminders:** 1. If you are outside of the “young widow” target population, we can suggest other widow social or support groups. Please see the list above. * If you are not past the “acute grief” phase (less than 12 months since your partner’s death), your application will be put on hold. **Members on the BAND app:** * Only members of the Meetup.com Club Wid may join the BAND app, for private group messaging. * The BAND app is where we talk between monthly official meetups events and members organize other events. This is also a space for private questions, comments, and discussion. Therefore, we want to know the folks who join the space. * To join the BAND app, we require an in-person connection at one of our events or a coffee/online meeting for vetting. \*\*You must attend an in-person event or meet-and-greet before your request to join on BAND is accepted.\*\* Please RSVP so that we know to expect you! Sorry you had reason to be here, but glad you found us. We hope you find friends, hope, and healing in our community.
