What we’re about
The purpose of the meetup is to learn more about using Herbs, Spices and other items that create flavor like vinegar, fish sauces, anchovy pastes, etc. I'm personally fascinated by the topic and have a desire to learn as much as I can. One of my goals for the group is to have a item for discussion for each meeting. For example we might review the various types of basil - Sweet, Cinnamon, Globe, Thai, Lemon, and so forth. At another meeting we might talk about the pipers - Black, Cubed, Long and varieties like Tellichery, Malabar, Lompong. I'd like to potentially hold tastings as well so we can learn to identify the various flavors. Later we might look at what flavors are complementary. Why they work well together and what doesn't. I have the books Culinary Artistry and The Flavor Bible to use as general guides for these sorts of discussions. Other possible topics might include herb gardening. Secondary interests include cookbooks, other pantry items, kitchen tools like mortar and pestles, cutting boards, kitchen knives and knife sharpening.
If these topics sound interesting to you and you'd like to learn more or if you know a lot and would like to share then you should consider joining the meetup. Skill level seems irrelevant. I consider myself an "enthusiast." In the interest of full disclosure I do have a business, also called FlavorPantry, but the purpose of the meeting is to learn and share not to sell. Schedule will depend on interest. We could meet monthly or bi-monthly. Shoot me a note if you have a question or comment. Really looking for to getting together with other like minded individuals.
Best, Steve
