What we’re about

Hypnos: a gay book club for anyone interested in gay literature, history, and philosophy, paired with some good wine, company and thoughtful discussions. We focus on gay men’s topics, but anyone is fully welcome. Age is just a number.

Reading material will be selected primarily in philosophy, classical history, biography and psychology. Occasionally we break it up with fiction thrillers, mysteries, plays and romance. We may attend plays and films as a group for those interested. If the group feels like it, we may sometimes read non-lgbt material from the same fields.

On occasion, I'll offer random books and other things to do, in addition to our regular meetings.

We generally meet the third Thursday of the month around 7 pm at a Broward county venue with a relaxed atmosphere which generally serves wine, such as lounges, restaurants, and wine bars. (For current members: please take a quick, simple survey on which days you're able to meet. Just click here to cast your vote )

You don't have to be a philosopher or historian, just a bit nerdy and curious for thoughtful discussion and learning something new. Socializing and forming new friendships and connections is definitely encouraged, although we want to discourage using this group as another general 'dating app'. We want to make meaningful connections with people who have similar interests and personalities and are actually interested in the material.

(Message me if the event is full but you want to attend. The free version only allows 10, but in reality there's room for more...)

(Hypnos was the Greek god of sleep, who put the mortal Endymion under his infatuated sleeping spell. Hopefully the material will infatuate us but not put us to sleep...)
