What we’re about
The Alliance for the Arts (AFTA) is proud to provide unique and plentiful opportunities to create, experience and collaborate on art in all forms of expression. AFTA is committed to breaking down barriers to access the arts and increasing awareness about the role of the arts in stimulating workforce development and helping bridge the digital divide, developing cultural appreciation, and attaining positive mental and physical health, among many other benefits.
At AFTA we believe that the arts serve as a strong foundation for individuals and the community, and our mission reflects that. We know that the arts can be the inspiration for learning, collaborating, creating and understanding. Art is where we can all be unique while being the same: It is cathartic and uniting, and at AFTA, all are welcome to find and pursue their creative path.

Explore the incredible beauty of Alcohol Inks, an intensely vivid and fluid medium that practically paints itself! You will be encouraged to experiment using various techniques and have fun doing loosely guided projects such as florals, skies, water, and waves. The goal is to discover a new medium and mindset focused on creating without needing to produce. No previous experience is required. Each class will include multiple demonstrations, classroom time, and coaching.

You must pre-register for this class: click here
Have you been interested in trying a new painting process but have felt intimidated? This workshop is about using the batik (Indonesian style wax resist painting) and rozome (Japanese style batik) wax and dye painting processes to create unique artwork on fabric that can be used on everyday household objects, clothing or works of art! Play with tjaps (Indonesian printing blocks), tjanting tools, brushes, and other waxing techniques so that you have a variety of tools to create artwork that is uniquely yours. We will work with environmental friendly soy/beeswax and acid dyes for vivid colors. Good for silk painters, fiber artists and artists who would like to work in fiber so they can add new techniques and ideas to their toolkit.
Please bring a lunch each day as you don’t want to miss out on any fun time!
There is a $60 Supply Fee to be paid directly to the Instructor. Checks should be made out to Martha Clark Gill.
- Fluid Art Landscape 101 with Cathleen OzmoreAlliance for the Arts, Fort Myers, FL
You must pre-register for this class: click here
In this class, students will create a beautiful landscape painting using Golden Fluid paints, Amsterdam medium body paints, and TLP pigments. We will learn how to mix different density paints to the perfect consistency for your landscape and choose the perfect color palette. Multiple techniques will be used, e.g., swiping (learn how to use that paper towel as your paint brush), flip cup their sky for the perfect cloud formations, and ribbon pours for their ocean.
Students will also go over ways to embellish your paintings after they have dried. Learn how to add sea grasses, straighten that horizon line, maybe add an island or two. Landscape swiping is one of the most versatile and satisfying classes.
