What we’re about
👋 Welcome to Our Hiking Group!
Escape the city and explore Britain’s countryside with a welcoming community of nature lovers. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a beginner, you’ll find fresh air, adventure, and good company here.
🌱 About Us
Founded in April 2025, we’re a group of outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy exploring trails and building connections. Our aim is to create a respectful, inclusive space where people can discover the outdoors together.
🤝 How We’re Run
The group is run by a small volunteer team. We plan and lead hikes as peers, not professionals, and make decisions with the community’s best interests in mind.
✅ Who Can Join
Adults aged 21+ are welcome. For safety and inclusivity, children and pets are not permitted.
💰 Cost
All hikes are free – just sign up, turn up, and enjoy the trail.
🥾 Our Walks
We run 10–20 mile hikes across London and the surrounding counties, from scenic woodlands to rolling hills (and the occasional muddy field!). Some routes are beginner-friendly, others more challenging, but all offer fresh air, adventure, and good company.
🌄 What to Expect
Expect a friendly welcome at the meeting point, a steady group pace with regular breaks, and a mix of solo adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts. Many hikes finish near a café or pub for a relaxed catch-up, and the occasional scenic detour is all part of the fun! 🍓
💪 Fitness & Readiness
Most hikes require moderate fitness and the ability to walk 4–6 km/h at a steady pace. Check each event description for details.

...71 attendeesFREE HIKE 24K | Windsor Great Park Circular
London Waterloo station, London Waterloo station, London, SE1 8SW, GB📈 Grade: 🥾🥾🥾 Level 3/5
Step into history and nature on a relaxed yet rewarding circular hike through Windsor Great Park, one of England’s most iconic royal landscapes.
Stretching across nearly 2,000 hectares of ancient woodland, rolling meadows and tranquil lakes, this breathtaking park was once the private hunting ground of Windsor Castle and today is beautifully cared for by the Crown Estate.
This route is rated easy to moderate, ideal for beginners and intermediate hikers. Paths are mostly flat and well kept, while the distance still offers a satisfying challenge.
We begin in Windsor on the Long Walk, a majestic 2.5-mile avenue with Windsor Castle rising in the distance. Our first landmark is the Copper Horse, the imposing statue of King George III atop Snow Hill, with panoramic views across the park.
Next we wind through shaded trails in The Plantations and along the quiet edges of Obelisk Pond. In autumn the park glows with golden oaks, fiery chestnuts and russet beeches. Continuing south, we glimpse the Valley Gardens, a spectacle of colour throughout the year.
At Virginia Water Lake, we loop the shoreline and visit:
- The Ruins of Leptis Magna, fragments from a Roman city in modern-day Libya
- The Cascade, an ornamental waterfall, picturesque even when dry
- The Totem Pole, a towering gift from Canada carved with intricate detail
After a refreshing stop at the Virginia Water Café, we return via peaceful Cow Pond. Once reshaped in the 18th century by architect William Kent, this ornamental water was designed to mirror the trees and sky and remains a tranquil highlight today.
Finally we retrace the Long Walk, with Windsor Castle dramatically framed ahead, a perfect finale to a day immersed in history and nature.
We finish at Windsor & Eton Central where you can explore the town, relax in a local pub or catch a train home.
🌅 Sunset on 1 November is at 16:30, with civil twilight ending at 17:06, so please bring a head torch in case the group is a little slower than expected.

SUMMARY:
🥾 ~22 km | Linear Walk | Ascent: 398 m | Duration: ~ 6 hours
📍 Start: Rye Station Car Park at 10:00
🚆 For trains and group tickets from London, please check with others coming from London
🏁 Finish: Hasting approx. 16:00-17:00
⚠️ Coastal cliffs, Woodland & StepsABOUT:
This linear walk offers a great variety of rivers, inland and coastal sceneries, woodland, English heritage, including the Rye Castle (Ypres Tower) and Camber Castle, as well as the ancient town of Rye. There are public toilets only a few kilometres into the walk and at the end of the walk. We begin at Rye Station Car Park and conclude at a pub near Hastings railway station.DESCRIPTION:
The walk begins in the historic town of Rye. We head towards the Rye Castle (Ypres Tower), where we can also see the seafront. Shortly afterwards, we head towards Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, where we see Camber Castle. On the way, we pass by a range of rivers, including the River Tillingham and the River Brede. Our route then leads us to the England Coast Path and eventually Pett Level Cliffs. We stop for lunch somewhere near the Cliff End area, which offers stunning sea views. After lunch, we carry on our scenic clifftop walk towards Fairlight Glen, a shaded ravine in Hastings Country Park and Hastings. We then continue along the cliff path, taking in the stunning coastal views and Hastings Pier. This section of the hike is hilly, so be prepared to sweat and burn those legs.
Our walk concludes at a welcoming pub close to Hastings railway station, where we can relax and reflect on the day’s journey.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Rye Castle (Ypres Tower) – The Ypres Tower was built in the 13th century to defend Rye against attacks from across the Channel, and it served as a fort, private dwelling, women's prison, court hall, and museum.
- Rye Harbour Nature Reserve – One of England's biggest and most biodiverse coastal wetland reserves.
- Camber Castle – This castle, located between Rye and Winchelsea and open to the public, was built by Henry VIII and designed to guard the port of Rye. Around 500 years ago, we would have seen the sea here, rather than fields, and the Camber Castle overlooked the shallow waters of Rye Bay.
- Coastal views – Views of the sea, occasionally ships, and eventually the Hastings Pier.
Hastings Pier – One of England’s modern piers, reopened in April 2016, nearly six years after it was almost totally destroyed by fire.
