Spring is a perfect time to get into photographing blooming things as they are all around. You can find them in your own yards, roadsides, nearby fields, backyard gardens, and at a number of our wonderful botanical gardens. In this talk Larry will cover equipment and techniques for capturing these beauties, big and small. Along with some tips on post-processing them.
For those unfamiliar with the spectacular images created by Larry Winslett we highly recommend taking a look at his web site: Larry Winslett Photography
Bio: Larry Winslett is an award winning nature photographer who has chronicled the natural world in many parts of the United States and Canada. He has specialized in the regions’ wildflowers, animals, rivers, and streams. He is particularly noted for his work featuring the three major granite outcrops in Georgia—Stone, Panola, and Arabia Mountains. Larry and his wife, Julie, co-authored the book Wildflowers of Stone Mountain Park. His photographs have been featured in a variety of publications, such as Sierra, Wilderness, and Wild Mountain Times and can also be seen in four permanent exhibits at Stone Mountain Park. His fine art prints are also displayed in such diverse locations as Stanford University and Cox Communications, and his work has been the focus of major exhibits at Stone Mountain’s Memorial Hall Museum and the Fernbank Natural History Museum. His photos have also been used by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Georgia Poetry Society, and the Dahlonega Chamber Music Festival.
We plan to showcase your photos on the TV in the meeting room prior to the speaker presentation. Before the meeting, if you like, please upload two nature photos that you have taken on the following link: GNPA ALPHARETTA Images Folder
- Coastal Chapter GNPA Field Trip to Bonaventure CemeteryBonaventure Cemetery, Thunderbolt, GA
Bonaventure Cemetery is one of the most visited and photographed sites in the world due to the lovely tree-lined roads and where so many notable persons are interred. It is the largest of city cemeteries containing over 100 acres.
The camellias are possibly still in bloom and hopefully, we will see some azaleas peeking their heads out of the greenery and offering us some more color to photograph. As well as flowers, Bonaventure is a great place for infrared photography as well as color and black and white.Meet at the back parking lot near the Wilmington River. Recommended gear- Just about any camera, lens or camera phone. Insect repellent, hats and weather related clothing can be useful. There is no fee to visit Bonaventure. For more information on etiquette in the cemetery, visit Bonaventure Cemetery
You must be a dues-paying member of GNPA to attend this event. Not a member? Go to www.gnpa.org to learn more about our organization and to join. We look forward to meeting you!
