What we’re about
Welcome to Glasgow Young Walkers (GYW), a walking group for young adults based in Glasgow. How young you ask? Well, we have members in their 20s, 30s & 40s. So really, anyone over 18 is welcome to join!
We have an active walks programme with a walk organised most weekends. From urban walks and Munro's to weekend trips in the countryside, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Join us to meet like-minded outdoor enthusiasts, explore beautiful locations, and create unforgettable memories. So whether you’re new to walking, or never far from the mountains, we’ll happily welcome you! On the social side we have regular pub nights as well as other events throughout the year.
We are a Ramblers affiliated group. Not a Ramblers member? No problem, you can still join us for up to 3 walks. Once you become a Ramblers member you will have access to a variety of training courses, including first aid, navigation and walk leadership that will enhance your hill skills and up your confidence levels plus a huge variety of other membership benefits.

Join Glasgow Young Walkers for a walk in the Menteith hills close to Aberfoyle. The walk will follow the Rob Roy Way for a wee while, then we will head to Lime Craig and the top of Craig of Monievreckie (https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/sub2000/craig-of-monievreckie ), which is a sub-2000 and a Marilyn.

- Terrain: Mixed: woodland tracks, steep and boggy path to Monievreckie
Getting there
By car: The starting point of the walk is 1 hour by car from the city centre of Glasgow. If you can offer a lift, please add this to the comments with the number of places you have. Non drivers will be expected to contribute towards fuel costs.Public transport:
There is a train at 7:41 am from Queen Street to Stirling. Bus nr. X10A leaves from Goosecroft Rd (Stance B) to Aberfoyle and arrives at the Tourist Information Centre in Aberfoyle at about 9:12 am. There are regular buses back to Stirling from Aberfoyle.Please note that number of attendees is limited to 16 people for this walk.
This is a moderate walk which is suitable for all fitness levels. The ascent to the top of Craig of Monievreckie is steep and could be very boggy. Please wear suitable walking boots and bring your full waterproofs. Please also make sure that you have food and water on you.
The plan is to go a pub/café in Aberfolyle after the walk.

- Three Hills of Edinburgh - Calton Hill, Arthur's Seat and Blackford HillApple Store, Edinburgh
This walk will provide three different perspectives of the beautiful city of Edinburgh. Starting in the city centre, we will head to Calton Hill and take in the views of sea and city. From there, we will continue on to the iconic Arthur's Seat. Finally, we will walk to the Hermitage woodland and ascend Blackford Hill. We will end by heading back through the Meadows to the city centre. There is an option to for cafe/pub social afterward for those who are interested.
Meeting point: The Apple Store, 10 Princes St
Meeting time: 10am
Distance: approximately 9 miles
Ascent: the highest point will be Arthur's Seat at 251m
Duration: allow 6 hours for full route with stops
Terrain: city pavements, trails, some steep and rocky pointsGetting there
By car: The starting point of this walk is in Edinburgh City Centre, roughly 70 minutes from Glasgow City Centre.Public transport: Train or bus to Edinburgh Waverley. I will be taking the 9am train from Glasgow Queen Street station.
Walkers should be reasonably fit and able to comfortably walk up hills between 100-250m. Please wear suitable hiking boots, and bring along full waterproofs and plenty of layers. Walkers should bring plenty of food and water.

Join Glasgow Young Walkers for a lively ceilidh night at the National Museum of Scotland to celebrate Burns Night!

Join Glasgow Young Walkers for a walk along the Union Canal from Falkirk to Linlithgow, As per Walkhighlands 'Built between 1818 and 1822, the Union canal was designed by Hugh Baird and was originally used for transporting coal before competition from the railways caused it to close to commercial use in the 1930s. This sections gives a pleasant, level walk, the highlights being heading through a long tunnel and over a giant aqueduct.’

Public transport:
09:52 train from Glasgow Queen Street. Return trains from Linlithgow to Glasgow every 30 minutes.Please note that number of attendees is limited to 25 people for this walk.
This is a relatively easy walk which is suitable for those with reasonable fitness levels. Please wear suitable footwear and if possible bring waterproofs. Please also make sure that you have snacks and water with you.
