What we’re about

Note: RSVPs don't reflect turnout - we were an existing community before we created a Meetup group. All of our gaming events have solid turnout!

Good Game GR (GG GR) is the largest tabletop gaming community in Grand Rapids, MI. We host meetups all over the Grand Rapids area and we're committed to growing a community that is inclusive to all that share the love of board, card, and tabletop roleplaying games in West Michigan.

We do our best to ensure our events are accessible no matter your experience with the hobby. We keep it a positive, cozy, and welcoming place for all.

Parking: There's a free lot behind the bar that usually has plenty of space. You can enter the venue from there (red door).

What to Expect:

Good people, good food/drink, and good games! 😎

No experience necessary, every game starts off with a teach.

Games all complexity are played so you can choose your vibe.

There will be name stickers out on a table across from the bar. Please feel welcome to use them!

We like to start off with short games and break into groups as people arrive, but showing up closer to 6pm is a great way to be able to hop right into a game.

This event averages 25+ people, but the venue gives us so much space for us to spread out that it's never crowded.

If you have any concerns or are feeling nervous, please feel welcome to reach out in the discussion or message me and I'm happy to plan on playing something with you. Even if you don't, we're always there making sure new folks are being welcomed and everyone is being included.

This event is more about having a good time than who wins. All experience levels are invited to play. The games played vary based on the interest of who’s there. Showing up solo? No problem! Don’t know the game? No problem! Someone in the group can teach you how to play.

What to Expect:
- The 3-4 rows of tables nearest to the shelf of board games is reserved for drop-in play!
- Head to the drop-in area to mingle and grab yourself a spot in a game.
- If you're not quite sure where to fit in, you can ask someone to point out Tyler, Jed, or Michelle and they should be able to help you find a spot if they're there. The bartenders can help point you in the right direction as well.
- It can be helpful to show up closer to 6pm before tables really get going in games, but you should be able to find a spot any time.

Every other Thursday is open board game night at The Stray, but on Sept 4, during Game Night we're ALSO hosting a special BOTC event! Join guest host Luke for Blood On The Clocktower on the patio! Meet and mingle, snack and sip, and most important: Play!

Blood on the Clocktower is a murder mystery style social game. Up to 15 players can play at once, and beginners are encouraged to join. Special rules allow people to come and go as needed as well. The first game will start around 7pm. If you're new to BOTC or would like a refresher, feel free to arrive at 6:30 for an overview of how the game is played (check out their website above too!) We'll likely play a few games, so if you can't make it at the beginning, don't let that stop you from coming and joining one of the later games!

The Stray is the longest-running location of our game nights and we hope you'll join us in supporting them while you're there as a way to say thank you for donating their space to us for over 4 years now. That said, there is no requirement to buy anything to attend, but please be respectful of the space, other patrons and staff, and don't bring in any outside food or drinks.

Every other Thursday is open board game night at The Stray! Join us to meet and mingle, snack and sip, and most important: play, learn, and teach board games.

We bring a tableful of rotating games from our personal collection and have a cartful of classics and party games on hand as well. If there's something you've been dying to play, feel free to check out our (mostly up-to-date) 600+ game list at the link below and reach out to let us know you'd like us to bring something specific.

The vibe at this event and venue is usually pretty chill - good people of all kinds playing all kinds of good games. Some people like to stick to their own table and some love to mix and mingle. If you'd like to interact with other gamers beyond a quick "hello" please grab a name tag from the game library table so the hosts and others know you're open to chat and maybe play a game with future friends.
