What we’re about
If you love -- or like to sample -- wine in a sociable way, you've found a wonderful group! You do not need to be a wine connoisseur or wine expert to join this meetup. All types of wine drinkers are welcome, from wine "beginners" to wine "veterans." All you need is an enjoyment for drinking wine and an interest in tasting a variety of wines in a fun, sociable setting.
This group tends to meet either at a Greenville-based happy hour bar or restaurant on a weekly basis. Some of our best gatherings happen when one of our members hosts a gathering at their home. These "home-based" events tend to feature "middle-range" price/quality for wines. Sort of a "Goldilocks" kind of thing in which the wine is not too expensive or not too cheap. Often, the host (who is the one who decides what the wine/food "theme" of the event will be) will ask that attendees bring a wine that has a rating of at least, say, 85 points by major wine rating services (the rating is found on the label in many cases). Or the request might be to "Bring your favorite wine." These kinds of requests tend to discourage people from bringing undrinkable, embarrassing, low-quality wine. I'd say that a good and typical price range for a bottle of wine at home-based events would be between $8 and $20, but I don't believe anyone would object if an attendee brought a wine that cost more than $20.
Speaking of which, we strongly encourage members to host an event at their home or at a "community center" or "clubhouse." There are many benefits to hosting. Being a host is very easy and rewarding.
When you choose to host, you only need to send Dom Nozzi – the owner of this meetup -- a note (either a message directed to Dom through the wine social meetup webpage, or through a regular email – dom[AT]walkablestreets.com) with some basic information about your event (Dom will provide you with a checklist of needed info).
That is all there is to it! Hosting a wine event is easier than you think.
Civility Guidelines:
The objectives of this meetup are to learn about wines in a polite, social, respectful, and comfortable manner.
1. This is not a “singles” meetup, or a “hookup” meetup, or a “dating” meetup. There are meetups and on-line dating services suitable for that. I do, however, encourage making new friends or strengthening existing friendships. Please contact me (Dom) if you have an unpleasant interaction with a member at a meetup. Should I receive more than one complaint about a member, that member – at my discretion -- will be promptly removed as a member.
2. Please drink responsibly rather than to the point of becoming obnoxious, or dangerous to yourself or others. When attending a meetup at the home of a host, please respect the home.
3. If you sign up for a meetup event, please attend that event. If you are unable to attend after signing up, please be courteous by canceling your RSVP far enough in advance (at least a day or two if possible) so that those on the waitlist are able to attend. Our hosts work hard to set up an event for a certain number of attendees. If you sign up for an event and don’t attend without adequate notice, it is disrespectful to the host. And if you cancel less than 24 hours before the event, it is unfair not only to the host but also those on the waitlist.
4. If a host requests attendees bring a bottle of wine, an appetizer, or both, please respect this request by bringing along something to share – preferably something delicious!
5. Do not reserve spots at our limited-attendance meetups "just in case" you decide to go. Far too often, folks sign up for an event with very little intention of attending. Such people do so "just in case" other plans fall through, or "just in case they feel up to it." The result is that a very high percentage of RSVPs do not attend. Please do not sign up for an event unless it is highly likely you will attend.

I charge an annual fee of $5 to be a member of this wine gathering meetup. This is a modest fee – less cost than for a bottle of wine.
Those who host wine meetups will have the fee waived. If you have hosted a wine meetup and I have not waived your fee, let me know so that I can waive your fee.
The fee is in place because owning a wine meetup is rather expensive. I pay over $200 each year to meetup.com.
I have been told that many members are not being notified of upcoming events. If you are not being notified, please contact meetup.com support and let them know your account needs to be adjusted so that you are notified of upcoming events.
There are a few ways to pay your $5 fee and therefore avoid losing your membership.
I have heard that the pay method meetup.com uses (Stripe) is either difficult to use or is defective. I therefore don't recommend using Stripe. Two options I suggest: (1) Pay me $5 when you see me at a future meetup; (2) Venmo the money to me: @Dom-Nozzi.
Once you pay, you will be shown as being paid up for your annual dues on the meetup page.
Thank you in advance for understanding my need to charge a modest annual fee.

The Hamptons Condos, 325 Hampton Ave #105, Greenville, SC, USJoin us at our townhouse and patio at The Hamptons in Greenville on Sunday, October 19th starting at 11:00 am until 1:00 pm for a Pre-Porchfest Party!
We are at 325 Hampton Ave, #105 (the carport side of our historic brick building). Our condo is centrally located smack-dab in the middle of the several performance porches in the neighborhood.
The historic Hampton-Pinckney neighborhood in Greenville is proudly hosting its fifth annual porchfest event, which will be held on Sunday October 19th from 1:00pm – 6:00pm and will feature musical performances on several historic porches on Hampton Avenue, Pinckney Street, and Lloyd Street in the Hampton-Pinckney historic district. This event is free and open to the community.
This is a BYOB event of adult beverages and non-alcoholic drinks (note that a wristband must be purchased at the porchfest event if you wish to carry alcohol to various performances). We will be providing various adult and soft beverages for our patio gathering, as well as finger foods. We don’t require you to bring any of your own food or drink to share, but doing so is appreciated.
After our gathering, you will have a short walk to attend the many Porchfest performances. Again, our townhouse is centrally located for the event, with 5 musical performance porches on Hampton Ave and 6 performance porches on nearby Pinckney St.
This year, 24 bands (as of 10.5.25) will be performing for what I and many others believe is the most loved of all annual entertainment events in Greenville.
The purpose of Porchfest is to highlight the array of local musical talent and historic architecture in Greenville while enjoying Greenville’s first National Historic District – Hampton-Pinckney. This is a FREE OF CHARGE walkabout musical festival. More info: https://hpporchfest.org/
Suggestions for attending Porchfest after our patio gathering:
*Bring water bottles for hydration during the event.
*Bring a lightweight chair or blanket to sit on at the performance porches.
*Bring sunscreen or a hat or whatever else is needed for an afternoon outdoors.
*Do not walk with an open alcohol container on any streets or sidewalks not blocked for the event. If you are carrying alcohol, look for the “No Alcohol Beyond This Point” signs.
*Anyone 21 years old or older wishing to consume alcohol on public property must wear a City-approved wristband (wristbands can be purchased at the event for $1).
*Various porches will host various artists throughout the afternoon. Performances are staggered at different times from 1:00pm to 6pm. See the above-listed website for a schedule and map.
*The event site will have vendors selling beverages and food, as well as merchandise.
*No pets are allowed.Note that the streets where the event is happening will be closed to any motorized vehicles, including golf carts. Parking is available in numerous parking lots surrounding the area. We recommend one of a number of parking lots off Washington St between Lloyd St and Academy St. Or at Unity Park off Hudson. Parking is available in numerous parking lots surrounding the area. Greenville Heritage Federal Credit Union, Greenville Water System, and the Greenville County Library parking lots are available. Also, the closest street parking is available on Asbury.
A recommended and much more fun option for getting to our party and the event is to park in the Greenville town center and take a pedicab bicycle ride! Call 864.293.3065 for a pedicab ride to the event.
